Staff are wonderful and make an effort to settle people - and give them the care they need. I've always felt welcome, and Mum is being looked after better than we could manage as a family.

My mum has just passed her year at Cedars and has just about settled. Like everyone with dementia, she still thinks she's going home, but the family just brush it off now. I know it is a care home and have to keep costs down but it could be a bit less clinical with curtains and bedding. Instead of having
all the same colour, what about different colours or some pattern. Do more activities, with residents in some rooms. My mum says she gets bored just sitting.
Reply from Jo Farmer, Manager at The CedarsThank you for taking the time to review The Cedars and we are pleased that you rate our staff as excellent. We encourage our residents to personalise their rooms so they are as they wish and would be happy to look at changing your mum's room. We have recently opened our Active Lounge and offer a range of activities on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Activities are arranged with our residents' input, as well as one-to-one time. We respect residents' wishes when they don't wish to participate. I'm happy to discuss all aspects of care at The Cedars at a mutually convenient time.

I'm really pleased with the care my mum receives - the staff are very helpful and keep me informed of things concerning my mum. The home is always clean and free from any smells and I would recommend to anyone else considering putting a relative into a care home. Special thanks to all staff.

Dad has settled in very well after a bit of a rocky start. He has now adjusted well. Would probably like a bit more male conversation but enjoys female company. The carers are very good and kind to him.
Reply from Jo Farmer, Manager at The CedarsThank you for taking the time to review The Cedars and we are pleased that you rate our care/support as excellent. Thank you for your lovely feedback regarding our carers, which I will pass on. I'll discuss activities and interests with your Dad to make sure he is spending his time as he wishes.

Dad has been at The Cedars since the end of April and has been welcomed into the home by the staff and many of the residents. The home is very friendly and nicely decorated and has a lovely atmosphere. The staff go the extra mile for Dad and he is clearly very comfortable with them. The home environment
is safe and the main lounge is always a popular gathering place for residents. The food is lovely, fresh and home cooked with lots of variety. There are plenty of activities and a nice outdoor seating area. The carers are so friendly and approachable and the management are efficient and very proactive. In short, The Cedars is a lovely care home which I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

I am very pleased with the care and attention my husband has received since moving into The Cedars seven weeks ago. He has been excellently looked after in a care home that is lovely, as are the staff who are approachable and show thought and attention to their residents. The home-cooked food is always
tasty and presented well and looks delicious. Management are very approachable and extremely quick to sort any problems. First-class care home!

My mother has been living at the home for 4 months now and the change in her is fantastic. She has regained some of her independence that she previously lost when she was living alone. When I visit she appears happy and content and does speak very highly of the care staff. The staff are welcoming and
friendly and treat my mother with dignity and respect and are attentive to her needs which is all that I could ask for. The Manager has been very supportive in helping us through the process of arranging 24 hour care and nothing is too much trouble. I would highly recommend the home for anyone looking for first class care for their relative.

The staff are all brilliant. Very caring and I am confident that my mother is being looked after very well when I am not there. The home is kept very clean and there is no lingering smell of urine as I've encountered in other care homes.

Due to the absence of a manager, there were initial problems with communication as the two different area managers were not always available. There have been a few instances of missed medication which could be a serious concern. Hopefully, this is addressed appropriately.

Generally satisfactory. Only when things go wrong, it is not satisfactory, e.g lift not working for several days. Baths not working on floor one for an unacceptable time. When the lift wasn't working food was always cold.
Reply from Joanne Farmer, Home Manager at The CedarsThank you for taking the time to review The Cedars, and we are pleased you rate our safety as excellent. We are aware of the problem with the lift and this has now been fixed. Unfortunately, there was a delay in securing the right parts to fix the issue. We arranged to amend our menus accordingly to ensure our residents were able to continue to enjoy the food they liked but apologise if this was not the case. We are currently waiting on contractors to replace the batteries in the bath on the first floor, which should be completed shortly. However, our residents continue to have access to two bath facilities on the second floor. We are also looking to employ a bank maintenance person to ensure that any small repairs and maintenance issues can be rectified more quickly.

Very caring home. Lovely staff, followed Covid rules and regulations very well. Not sure on the food - Mum always says how poor it is and lack of choice, but I know Mum is safe.
Reply from Joanne Farmer, Manager at The CedarsThank you for taking the time to review The Cedars. We are pleased that you rate our care and support as very good and I will ensure that your kind comments are passed on to our team. We will continue to liaise with you and your mum regarding our food. Our catering team regularly review our menus with our residents' input and we continue to offer alternatives to our menus each day.

My aunt was a spinster and had no other relatives apart from myself and my brother. She was 96 years of age and a resident here from February 23rd to July 29th, 2021 when she died. Everything about this establishment is excellent and I have no hesitation in recommending it. The building is modern and
purpose-built, with lovely rooms and facilities. The food is varied and well prepared and my aunt said there was too much of it. She preferred to stay in her room so I can’t comment on the activities. Much more important, of course, is the standard of care which was first-class. When my aunt became ill in her final weeks, the response from the staff was superb. You simply couldn’t ask for more! Communication was always very good and nothing was too much trouble. Parking is cramped and it can be a long wait before the staff answer the doorbell. I was told it was good and it is!

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.753)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.753) out of 10 for The Cedars is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.753 for The Cedars is calculated as follows: ( (227 Excellents x 5) + (63 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 295 Ratings = 4.753
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Cedars is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
