The home is very clean. The staff met us at the door. We were tested for covid. Our friend was treated with great care and dignity. The rooms are of a generous size and have their own ensuite. We were offered tea, cake and biscuits, which were very much appreciated as we had travelled from London by
train. Thank you for your hospitality.

Came to Verwood House to visit a long-time friend. The staff and facilities appear to be both welcoming, efficient and clean. All in all, I am extremely impressed and happy that our friend is so well looked after!

My dad was in Verwood for his 4-week assessment. During this time his care was a bit hit and miss. One of the carers was wonderful, others, less so. Some days, he had 2 shirts on, other days a shirt over his jumper, some odd and thoughtless combinations, not the end of the world, but not the standards
which my dad would have set for himself. There were times when I had to use the call bell a number of times to get some help for him to take him to the toilet. After 3 weeks he had a fall which necessitated a visit to A & E. When it was considered that he was well enough to return to Verwood, I rang to let them know that he was on his way. The phone was commandeered by the manager of Verwood when she heard who we were talking about and I was informed in no uncertain terms that he was not coming back, that Verwood House could now not accommodate his needs despite being told previously that they could give him a permanent home if we wished. How quickly the whole attitude changed. I was told to clear my father's things out.

I was very concerned about my mother going into a care home., I needn't have been! She has had nothing but excellent care. The staff are amazing and the routines and procedures they have in place are outstanding. She enjoys the many activities that are available after being her carer for over two years.
I can relax knowing she is safe, happy and well looked after.

Lovely, welcoming team at Verwood House. I am always kept informed about Mum's care. Mum has been treated with dignity and respect and supported to join in with all of the many activities. The manager is always friendly and welcoming and knows all of the residents and families.

My mother and father had respite care for four weeks which they enjoyed, specifically the entertainment. The team looking after them were lovely and very kind and caring. The environment is light and bright with good communal areas. They enjoyed the meals and the availability of hot drinks during the
day. Both my parents suffer from dementia which we made the team aware of and they treated them with care and kindness, ensuring they were both consulted over meals etc. There is a couple of points to mention - one is despite informing the team that my mother does not remember to change her clothes regularly, she still had on the same clothes for a week. It is difficult to persuade her to change once she is dressed when visiting daily. There was no hot water for over a week. More personal care would be an improvement, with bathing and clean clothes.

Having to put Dad into the care of others was a worrying time, but there was no need as he settled in really well and loved all the activities. The care he received was the best. We, as a family, were kept informed with everything, for that we were so grateful. The reception ladies were always very
welcoming and not forgetting the catering staff, the food always looked amazing. So if you're looking for a really good care home, look no further.

During the period that my husband has been in residence at Verwood House, I have found the environment very welcoming and the staff engaging to accommodate my husband's needs. There are some communal areas that would welcome some cosmetic attention, and some junior carers would benefit from guidance
from senior staff; however, overall, I feel my husband is cared for well and is in a safe environment.

We found it hard to let anyone outside of the family care for our mum when we needed to find a care home to provide the nursing support she needed. We were totally reassured by the care, kindness and support given to Mum at Verwood House. We knew she was safe and well looked after by all the staff.
As a family, we valued the regular communication with the home, responding to our frequent enquiries about how Mum was and sharing with us the detail of her progress. We are grateful to all the staff we had contact with, from reception to those providing the daily care and nursing support - for Mum and the family, Verwood House was definitely the right choice.

My aunt has been in Verwood House for about three months and in that time she has settled in well and has been assisted in this process by very helpful, friendly staff, and an excellent activities programme.
The staff and manager have been approachable, professional and responsive when we have needed
to discuss issues associated with the settling in process.

My mother, who has dementia, has only been at Verwood House for six weeks and I cannot praise the staff highly enough for settling her in so quickly. It was quite distressing for us both when Mum moved from her last care home because she needed more specialist care, but I need not have worried. In
a few short weeks, I have seen such a difference in her, she is more sociable and has made new friends easily. The Activities Coordinator needs a special mention for all she does in keeping me informed of Mum's progress and the activities she has done. I've also received lovely photos taken during the activities. The Activities Coordinator is also there on every skype session (necessary due to Covid restrictions) so she can remind Mum to tell us how her week has been and what she's done, which makes for a bit of conversation between us. I am looking forward to being able to visit Mum properly soon, once restrictions are lifted and meeting more of the wonderful staff who look after her.

Dad's care is generally good. Many of the staff are really professional and caring. He is generally content, clean and settled. The food is usually nice. The staff are always friendly and helpful.

The care home is a very nice care home. Staff are lovely and kind, they treat my husband with dignity. Sometimes there is a shortage of staff but they all try to manage as best they can. The rooms need an update, new carpets and the whole home could do with a fresh lick of paint and new fittings.

The care home is a spacious building with large rooms for the residents. It is clean with friendly staff, from the nurses to the cleaners. Nothing is too much trouble. Unfortunately, they are short staffed and sometimes I feel as though I want to help although I know I'm not allowed.The only gripe I
have is that the laundry often goes missing and this can be frustrating when I see the cupboards empty.

Julie House

Job Title: Registered Care Home Manager Joined: 2024

Julie has over 10 years of experience in the care industry, starting as a part-time cook and care assistant before progressing to senior care assistant, deputy manager, and eventually managing her first home. She has since gained extensive experience managing a variety of care settings, including residential, dementia, and nursing homes, where she has successfully improved and commissioned homes before joining the team at Verwood House. Julie holds a Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership and a Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management, both of which support her role as a Home Manager. From her very first day in a care home, Julie felt a deep connection with caring for the elderly and has been dedicated ever since to fostering a warm, homely environment where residents and their families can live, love, and laugh together. Julie is proud to be part of the Verwood House team, where everyone is committed to going the extra mile to brighten someone’s day.


Outside of work, Julie enjoys walking in the New Forest with her dog, Ted.

Alicia Bartlett

Job Title: Home Ambassador Joined: 2025

Alicia Bartlett brings a wealth of experience and creativity to her role as Home Ambassador at Verwood House. She holds a degree in Psychology and a Master’s in Criminology from the University of Southampton, and her career journey reflects her passion for supporting people and communities in a variety of ways.


She has lived and worked in America, where she taught dance and drama workshops to underprivileged children, and later managed a vibrant community centre in London, supporting the needs of a diverse range of clients.


Alicia has also provided administrative support within a special education trust and gained valuable experience in the business world, working in both financial planning and bespoke furniture sales.


Most recently, Alicia worked at The Salvation Army headquarters, producing resources for their churches and community centres. Alongside her professional achievements, Alicia is also a talented performer who loves to sing and dance, having appeared in shows across the country.


Away from work, Alicia enjoys life in Dorset with her husband Glen and their four-year-old son, making the most of family time and exploring the local area together.
