My father was taken to hospital on 24th August. He had fallen and got chest pains, was not told about the fall. Went to get some belongings for him, I was refused and told they are not mine so not allowed them. He has been given weeks to live so not able to walk. They eventually got me some clothes.
He also wanted other bits, they have been removed and put in the safe so that I couldn't get them. I am his next of kin. This behaviour is so not professional, he has nothing of value to have. So rude some staff are and sitting on personal mobile phones in the corridor when residents need help.
Reply from Sheilla Sunley, Manager at Beechdale Manor Care Home

A carer was attending to your father and he mentioned that he was having chest pains, the nurse attended immediately and 999 called. You were called immediately afterwards and before the paramedics arrived. Your father did not fall, I apologise if anybody within the home or hospital conveyed this to you.
Due to current Covid guidelines, access to the care home is subject to restrictions and we are unfortunately unable to allow unhindered access. I apologise again if these restrictions were not properly explained to you. A staff member did retrieve the items you requested, and they were handed to you at the time of your visit.
We do have a safe available and subject to any legal restrictions there would be no reason why these should not be collected by yourself.
We have an electronic care planning system and devices used do resemble mobile phones.
Sincere apologies for any upset caused, best wishes.

My mum was admitted to the care home shortly before her 80th birthday, she settled in very quickly and enjoyed living there for the last eighteen months.
As lock down hit we were unable to visit but staff kept us up to date about Mum.
Towards the end of April 2021, Mum's health started to decline,
I received a call early May to say the doctor had been to see Mum, later that same evening the staff called again to say Mum's condition had worsened and we were invited to go in to see her.
The staff were waiting at the door for us and took us to her room, the staff said we could spend the night with and bought in another comfortable chair and asked if there was anything else we needed. The staff went above and beyond for us and Mum.
I received a call in the early hours of the following morning saying sadly Mum had passed away and we were invited in to sit with Mum.
We would like to say a big thank you to all the staff involved with Mum's care and making a very difficult time so much easier.

I have been very well looked after. I came into Beechdale Manor Care Home as a resident in July 2020 after having a significant injury that left me unable to walk. The manager and staff have been extremely supportive and helped meet my needs from day 1. I was the youngest in the care home but felt supported
to meet my needs and transition back into the community. I will be forever grateful for all the care that has been provided. The care home itself is kept clean and the food is excellent with plenty of it. During Covid staff have kept my family informed of any changes at all times. I would highly recommend this care home.

The manager and staff are very welcoming, they supported my brother in overcoming significant injuries and being able transition back into the community independently. I was informed at all times of any changes to my brother's care needs. It has been extremely difficult during Covid and all staff have
worked extremely hard to ensure residents have been kept safe.

I have nothing but praise for the manager and staff at Beechdale Manor Care Home. They have been kind, caring and compassionate when looking after my father during his last days. I don't know what I would have done without their support and guidance. I only wish my father could have been there longer.

My father was a resident in this home for a few months having been referred from the hospital. We selected this on the basis that the home stated they could look after dementia patients, and they understood his underlying health issues. However, after a few weeks, they were having issues dealing with
my father. His room was a mess, and both I and other family members (one of whom is an ex nursing sister) queried staffing levels and my father's physical condition (he looked unkempt). Eventually, my father had to be hospitalised, partially due to an infection caused by uncontrolled diabetes whilst at the home. We were also informed that there had been incidents where he had been violent towards members of staff at Beechdale, which strangely did not occur at either the hospital or his final home. In my opinion, Beechdale is not strongly led and is not an ideal environment for those with dementia. I was informed by a carer there that staff change frequently.

Beechdale Manor Care Home impressed me very favourably during the six months my husband stayed there. The standards set by the management were very high. The building was spacious, airy, clean and comfortable. A very adequate number of well-trained staff were kind, attentive and alert to changing problems.
Medical care was swift and thorough. During my husband's last illness when I could no longer speak to him on the phone, the staff rang me three times a day to report on his condition. Their compassion was an enormous support.

My Aunt had dementia and Beechdale Manor cared for her and treated her with dignity. They took time to enquire about her taste in food when we first arrived. Because of COVID-19, and because we were isolating ourselves and could not be with our Aunt when she died the manager assured us she was not alone
when she did die and someone was always with her.

Beechdale Manor looked after my father during the final five months of his life. Despite the difficulties of COVID 19, the manager and his team took the trouble to tend to my Dad's needs with love, dignity and kindness at all times. I shall be grateful always.

Mum is generally very happy, warm, comfortable and well cared for at Beechdale Manor Care Home. Her dementia does make her confused and unable to remember what social interaction she has enjoyed. She enjoys her weekly hair appointment.
She is very happy with the quality and diversity of the meals.
We sometimes question why she may still be in bed but sometimes it will be because she wants to. On weekends we do wonder if she is asked regularly enough about getting up.

From the moment I visited this establishment, I knew it was the right place for my mother. I found the care home took very good care of my mother, she stated she was finally happy. After a couple of troubled years elsewhere, it was good to know, that this is a friendly place, where even visitors was
happy to interact with other residents.

My mother was at Beechdale Manor for several years until her passing on September 25th 2019. The service provided was always excellent. Her room was bright, cheerful and clean. On her 100th birthday, the Manager and staff prepared a wonderful celebration, putting in much effort. On mother's passing
the Manager was extremely helpful in dealing with obtaining a death certificate. I live in the USA.

Cared for my mum at home for a long time, she didn't eat or very little. Not very good at communicating and very subdued. Being at Beechdale my mum eats, talks more and joins in more activities. Mum's health needs, get regularly looked after and most of all she smiles. Staff very very friendly and helpful.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.060)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.060) out of 10 for Beechdale Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.645 for Beechdale Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (61 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 93 Ratings = 4.645
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.415 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Beechdale Manor Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 65 registered maximum number of service users is 13. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 13 = 0.615
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
