The staff have really welcomed Dad into the home in what is a very stressful time and have been very supportive to my sister and I.

They made a special effort on Dad's birthday decorating his room with a banner and balloons and then came into his room singing happy birthday and bringing in a cake, it was just the attention my dad loved.

Reply from Scott Lindfield, Manager at Barchester Marnel Lodge Care Home

Thank you for reviewing Marnel Lodge. I am really pleased to hear that Dad has settled in so well and enjoyed his Birthday with us!

I have nothing but praise for all of the staff here - from the gardener and odd-job (maintenance) man, laundry ladies, chef etc to the carers of all grades.
They always have a smile and a hello even if they don't know me and are so kind and thoughtful to my husband and me.
Ready with lovely hugs when needed and cups of tea.
The home and gardens are beautifully kept and everywhere is so clean.

All staff work extremely hard.

We were very impressed with our first visit to Marnel Lodge and have been happy with the treatment our relative has received so far. The interior of the building is bright, clean and airy and the staff are always very pleasant. We are always impressed with the relaxed atmosphere of the home and feel we'd be happy if it came to be our turn to be residents.

Generally, dad is well looked after, has good meals and complaints one followed through.
Sometimes there is confusion when dad is not well and not always clear as to what nursing staff are doing.

Bathroom is not always left tidy, tubes left off toothpaste etc.

My mother has been at Marnel Lodge for just over a year. She is well looked after and comfortable with all the assistance and support that she needs. The staff are approachable and accommodating and go out of their way to be friendly through personal contact. My mother isn't able to show her appreciation very often but still receives a high level of care.

I joined the team in April 2021, and my role is to look after the home’s finances and administration. I have worked in administration for over 20 years, and here at Marnel, I lead a team of 2 lovely ladies. Tasks related to administration are very important to keeping a business running efficiently. Having the responsibility to complete tasks on time and in a quality manner without much oversight is crucial and really rewarding for me personally.

This is my first role in a care home, and I am loving getting to know the residents and their families. I interact with the residents on a daily basis, and you will often find me singing and dancing in one of the lounges when we have entertainers in, and I am happy to join them on trips out. My door is always open, and I am always happy to help.

While I worked there, I learned that doing just the smallest thing can make a big impact on the residents' lives.

I strive to bring the same mentality to my position here at Marnel and will try my hardest to make sure the lives of our residents are as comfortable and homely as possible.
