Our Dad stayed at West Cliff Hall last year and he was very happy there. His mental well-being and physical capabilities improved enormously (he had Parkinson's and early dementia). Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and all the staff - the carers, management, cleaners, kitchen and maintenance
staff got to know Dad and knew him by name and took care to get to know the little things that made him comfortable and the food and treats he enjoyed.


Family and friends were always treated very inclusively when we visited, and we were looked after, too: the staff were very helpful and attentive to us and offered cups of tea and invited us to stay for food with Dad. We were very impressed on each visit that all the staff were up-to-date with how Dad was and where in the building he was, what he was doing, and the fact that we were welcome to visit at any time without any forewarning was really important. The atmosphere at West Cliff Hall is a happy and caring one.

My father left hospital and unexpectedly needed respite care. He was taken in with the exceptional warm response from reception and management staff from West cliff hall.
They managed to arrange a smooth transition and quickly settled my father into a nice, clean, warm room with a sea view (which
he requested).
After a few minor hic-ups that the management and senior staff quickly and expertly addressed, my father soon settled in.
Due to deteriorating health issues, my father has now made the correct decision to stay permanently at West Cliff. The staff have been outstanding in assisting him with his decision and have made every effort to make him comfortable in a warm, friendly and vibrant environment that suits his character. They do their utmost best to meet all his requests and deliver the most exceptional good food, fun, entertainment, clean laundry, plenty of cups of tea and very good care all of which have contributed greatly to my father's happiness and well being.

The staff are extremely polite, caring, cheerful and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble even when the carers are rushed off their feet always having time for a friendly chat with the residents.


This was my fathers 3rd stay for respite, he enjoys his visits and hopes to return again.

Staff are friendly enough but this can change when under extreme pressure so can be unprofessional at times and talk in front of residents. They use agency staff who don't seem to know the residents. There is also a regular change in staff and an undercurrent of unhappiness. The food is acceptable,
there is a choice but it's not a hotel and shouldn't really be run as one!
The management structure changes a lot, giving no leadership or continuity.
Communication is very poor despite this being reflected in family questionnaires.
Residents personal belongings are lost, other residents items of clothing turn up in the wrong places even though they are labelled.
The rooms are not cleaned properly. I think the overall presentation of the home can be somewhat deceiving, consider other nursing homes. If you want 'posh' then this home ticks the boxes, if you want a care home that provides nursing care, sleep on it! Oh and read the CQC reports.

I am very disappointed to hear that you are unsatisfied with your experience of care at our home. As you are aware, we had recently investigated concerns that were raised and forwarded our investigations to the local authority who found the concerns unsubstantiated. We are extremely surprised to hear that you feel this way, especially after receiving feedback from you thanking the team at West Cliff Hall for the care they delivered to your Father and recognition of the positive change and improvements made at West Cliff Hall.
Hartford Care realise the importance of leadership continuity, as such West Cliff Hall has had an experienced interim General Manager in post who has worked for Hartford Care for many years until the position was permanently filled by myself in November. We consider safe staffing levels to be paramount, and although we have focused on recruitment and significantly reduced our staff turnover, there may be times when the use of agency staff is required to cover short notice absence to ensure we have the safe staffing levels for the care of our residents. We have introduced a robust agency induction process to support this also to ensure continuity of care.
Our housekeeping team work tirelessly to uphold the presentation of the home environment and management of each resident’s laundry. We apologise if there had been an incident of missing laundry, however, we always make every effort to remedy any concerns that are reported.
Your feedback is important to us, as is the care and well-being of all of our residents, which is highlighted in our CQC report from June 2017. We have recently had another CQC inspection in December 2017, and our actions to develop areas of improvement have been identified by CQC and supported in the feedback given to us, which is due for publication early 2018.
We take great pride in ensuring we deliver high-quality care and facilities to make a difference to our residents and their family’s lives, and we will continue striving to develop the service we provide.

The complete staff were so helpful and kind in what was for us a really difficult time. The bed manager, manager, senior nurses, housekeepers, assistants and maintenance man all did their best to help us through. Nothing was too much trouble and I and other visitors were always made to feel at home.

My sister arrived at West Cliff Hall Care Home ill and confused. The care staff were wonderful - kind and genuinely caring, up to and at the end.
They struck up a genuine relationship with her which she much appreciated. I cannot praise them and all the staff too highly. They have my heartfelt thanks.

My mother is 87, fit and active and has Alzheimer's disease. I chose West Cliff Hall for mum to receive respite care for a month to allow me to go on holiday and have a rest. The facilities at West Cliff Hall were very good and the staff were extremely kind, caring and patient. Mum was very happy with
all the staff and found them very friendly. The staff made every effort to work closely with me at my request, as I was very anxious about mum's erratic behaviour - staff dealt with this well. Mum used the lovely garden a great deal and was well fed and cared for. I would be very happy to use West Cliff Hall respite care again in the future.

My mother has been a resident at West Cliff Hall since October 2016. Cannot fault any aspects of this building. The facilities are first class my mother's room and her on suite is superb.
The staff are wonderful with all my mother's needs. She is looked after in a very caring way Dementia is a terrible
illness and is very demanding. I cannot praise the staff enough at West Cliff Hall Care Home.

My mother spent two separate weeks at West Cliff Hall near the end of 2015. After each week, her physical and mental wellbeing shot up. In the new year (Jan 2016), she decided to move to West Cliff permanently and she chose the same room. She loves her room, with its own bathroom (with spacious walk-in
shower) and great views over the Solent, watching the ships go to and fro. All the rooms and corridors in the home are spacious so (unlike some other places) there’s no problem with mum bumping into things and people with her walking aid, and she doesn’t feel hemmed in. She's been there a year now and has settled in well, loves all the attention she gets and her condition seems to have stabilised. The staff are always professional, helpful and attentive. We had looked at a lot of other care homes but this was the only one that ticked all our boxes, and it’s such a relief to know that it wasn’t just a false ‘first impression’.

My Dad spent 2 weeks respite care in West Cliff back in August - he absolutely loved it. When the chance came for permanent residence we all jumped at the opportunity, and in his words (one month later) he said "It is the best decision that I have made" he is joining in and interacting well with other
residents and activities. He has a fantastic room with awesome views over the Solent. Dad has always enjoyed his food and the quality and varied menu ticks all of his boxes - especially his bottle of beer and glass of wine. The management and staff from the beginning have been Professional, understanding, supportive, warm and friendly. In summary, this care home is highly recommended and gets 10/10.

My father moved into West Cliff Hall in April and he has settled in very well. The staff, the surroundings, the environment have all contributed to my dad feeling like he never wants to be anywhere else. After being very down after being moved from his old care home that shut down he now says that's
the best thing that could of happened as he may never of come to West Cliff. Myself and my family could not wish for dad to be in a better place than West Cliff.
