Our dad was diagnosed with dementia 3 years ago. We have been struggling to keep Dad safe and happy in his own home until now but Dad has recently had some falls and this January Dad went into West Cliff for the second time for respite care. On both occasions, the staff have been so welcoming and supportive at very short notice. People with dementia never forget bad feelings. Our dad was very happy to go back to West Cliff again. This says everything to me about the quality of care he has received. He is building a very happy relationship with the staff who are very sympathetic to his physical and emotional needs. Whenever I visit I have seen the staff spending time sitting and talking to their residents. So far I cannot fault West Cliff. All the staff I have met are sensitive, caring and helpful people who create a homely atmosphere for their residents and their family. West Cliff has really taken a massive weight off my shoulders and I have no hesitation in recommending West Cliff.

Under difficult circumstances, the staff at West Cliff helped in every way possible to accommodate our wishes. They did exactly what they said they would efficiently and with genuine care for our mum. A particular thank you to the admissions staff.

All of the staff have dads best interests at heart. Even if dad is having a "testing" day they take it in their stride and ensure he is happy. A genuine interest is taken in his wellbeing from personal care, medication and catering.

A tendency for staff to say I will see that a member of staff attends to it but frequently, nothing happens.

My mother in law has been in West Cliff for a couple of years and is generally happy with where she is although she does not tend to participate in activities or mix with other residents but this is her choice.

Not only is this a very clean facility but above all what is most important to me are the people who work there. They are very friendly and kind towards my Dad - the resident - and myself. I often call from overseas where I live and they go out of their way to find my father in the building and take a cell phone to him so we can talk. My father does not know how to use a phone in his room or how to use a cell phone on his own. It means so much to me that they go out of their way to please me and my father in this small but big way for us. Also, they have set up Skype Video for us to use occasionally. I can call from the United States and speak to my father. It is awesome to see him face to face. I really appreciate how they have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help us in the difficult time. God bless West Cliff Hall staff and managers! Thank you!

MUm has been a resident at West Cliff for the last 18 months. Her transition from home and hospital was excellent and she settled in very quickly and well.

The care and support she receives are faultless. I am so thankful she is in a lovely home being cared for in such a kind and friendly way.

Our Dad stayed at West Cliff Hall last year and he was very happy there. His mental well-being and physical capabilities improved enormously (he had Parkinson's and early dementia). Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and all the staff - the carers, management, cleaners, kitchen and maintenance staff got to know Dad and knew him by name and took care to get to know the little things that made him comfortable and the food and treats he enjoyed.

Family and friends were always treated very inclusively when we visited, and we were looked after, too: the staff were very helpful and attentive to us and offered cups of tea and invited us to stay for food with Dad. We were very impressed on each visit that all the staff were up-to-date with how Dad was and where in the building he was, what he was doing, and the fact that we were welcome to visit at any time without any forewarning was really important. The atmosphere at West Cliff Hall is a happy and caring one.

My father left hospital and unexpectedly needed respite care. He was taken in with the exceptional warm response from reception and management staff from West cliff hall.
They managed to arrange a smooth transition and quickly settled my father into a nice, clean, warm room with a sea view (which he requested).
After a few minor hic-ups that the management and senior staff quickly and expertly addressed, my father soon settled in.

Due to deteriorating health issues, my father has now made the correct decision to stay permanently at West Cliff. The staff have been outstanding in assisting him with his decision and have made every effort to make him comfortable in a warm, friendly and vibrant environment that suits his character. They do their utmost best to meet all his requests and deliver the most exceptional good food, fun, entertainment, clean laundry, plenty of cups of tea and very good care all of which have contributed greatly to my father's happiness and well being.

The staff are extremely polite, caring, cheerful and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble even when the carers are rushed off their feet always having time for a friendly chat with the residents.

This was my fathers 3rd stay for respite, he enjoys his visits and hopes to return again.

Staff are friendly enough but this can change when under extreme pressure so can be unprofessional at times and talk in front of residents. They use agency staff who don't seem to know the residents. There is also a regular change in staff and an undercurrent of unhappiness. The food is acceptable, there is a choice but it's not a hotel and shouldn't really be run as one!
The management structure changes a lot, giving no leadership or continuity.
Communication is very poor despite this being reflected in family questionnaires.
Residents personal belongings are lost, other residents items of clothing turn up in the wrong places even though they are labelled.

The rooms are not cleaned properly. I think the overall presentation of the home can be somewhat deceiving, consider other nursing homes. If you want 'posh' then this home ticks the boxes, if you want a care home that provides nursing care, sleep on it! Oh and read the CQC reports.

The complete staff were so helpful and kind in what was for us a really difficult time. The bed manager, manager, senior nurses, housekeepers, assistants and maintenance man all did their best to help us through. Nothing was too much trouble and I and other visitors were always made to feel at home.

My sister arrived at West Cliff Hall Care Home ill and confused. The care staff were wonderful - kind and genuinely caring, up to and at the end.

They struck up a genuine relationship with her which she much appreciated. I cannot praise them and all the staff too highly. They have my heartfelt thanks.

My mother is 87, fit and active and has Alzheimer's disease. I chose West Cliff Hall for mum to receive respite care for a month to allow me to go on holiday and have a rest. The facilities at West Cliff Hall were very good and the staff were extremely kind, caring and patient. Mum was very happy with all the staff and found them very friendly. The staff made every effort to work closely with me at my request, as I was very anxious about mum's erratic behaviour - staff dealt with this well. Mum used the lovely garden a great deal and was well fed and cared for. I would be very happy to use West Cliff Hall respite care again in the future.
