The staff are friendly. My Aunt seems happy.
I only rated the home four stars because we pay over £6k per month and I feel my Aunts belongings do not receive the respect they deserve. Clothes are washed, not ironed, then pushed into drawers and shelves. Not folded into designated drawers or hung nicely
as I feel they should be. I have found two skirts with the waist bands hanging off where they have obviously been yanked up instead of carefully elevated onto my Aunt.
I have mentioned this to staff and I understand care is a priority but the price being paid I feel respect for clients property should also be a concern.
The furniture in the bedroom is old and bashed, not homely, luckily my Aunt is in a wheel chair so I feel she will be maneuvered away from any rough areas.

I attend weekly to see my mother who has been a resident for 4 years, the staff are very friendly and always attentive to my mothers needs, any issues with her they contact me and inform me promptly. I cannot thank the staff for the care and compassion they show towards her, in sometimes difficult circumstances.
Mum is very happy there and that is what gives my sister and myself peace of mind that she is so well looked after and safe and secure, well done Horfield Lodge.

My parents moved to Horfield Lodge a few months ago and it has breathed a new lease of life into them. They are visibly healthier and enjoying life rather than struggling at home.
The team and service is fantastic.

Over the past year we have been looked after extremely well by both medical, care and management staff. We have got to know our carers (a pleasingly consistent team) and they have accommodated our needs at every turn, listening to us and sharing advice.
The accommodation is good and kept meticulously
clean, so it does not suffer from the odours that can be experienced elsewhere. The downstairs cafe has been a convenient meeting place for family and events, plus having a hairdresser service and clothes labelling opportunity.
The adjoining Horfield common is a great asset, giving good views, opportunities for walks and a cafe to visit as well as a chance to see children (and dogs!) at play.
The communal activities are enjoyable and special "Fine food" events e.g. Christmas Day, are thoughtful and well organised.

Just visited my dad and I'm so impressed with the staff and all the work they do., from management to the housekeeping team. I can relax knowing dad is cared for and well looked after. It can't be easy for the staff, it's hard work, but they are worth their weight in gold because without them what we
we do.
Many thanks.

The staff listen to what residents say and try to accommodate requests. The residents meetings are lively events as a result. A lot of effort has been put into re introducing events and activities since the world opened up again after the pandemic.
There is a good range of activities on offer and
the food is of a high standard. The cakes are especially amazing.
Mum's carers are kind and thoughtful and never complain about long hours or how busy they are, though I know they do work long hours and are very busy. They always smile, even when it's a tough shift. Staff turnover is low which is great for mum as she really gets a chance to know her carers. It must be a sign of the quality of their working environment.

My mother spent 2 weeks in Horfield Lodge, for respite care.
She loved being there (her words!).
She thrived under the skilled and compassionate care of the staff, wonderful food, her bright, airy room and stimulation.
My mother was transformed - we were relieved that she felt so safe and comfortable.
The
right care, from the right people, in the right place.
Thank you all so much, Horfield Lodge.

We recently attended my mother's 90th birthday celebrations with about 30 family and friends. It was held in the coffee lounge at Horfield Lodge and the staff had gone to a great deal of trouble to make it a special occasion. The lounge was beautifully decorated and the afternoon tea provided was a
truly sumptuous spread. A lot of love and effort had clearly gone into the event and the guests really appreciated being looked after so well. Mum enjoyed it all immensely!

Wow - what an amazing 90th party Horfield Lodge put on for my mother.
Two members of staff in particular could not have been more helpful in the planning of it.
The reception area/dining/lounge area was transformed into a fabulous tea party setting. The decorations were great and the food was fantastic.
One particular member of staff made me the most amazing delicacies - and produced the most stunning birthday cake.
Thank you so much.

My mum moved into Horfield Lodge about 18 months ago. We knew she might not have very many months left of life as she was quite unwell and this last month she moved to palliative end-of-life care. While she was still well she enjoyed her time engaging in activities, being given purposeful tasks and
little ‘jobs’ to give her value and meaning and to help her make sense of where she was. She has been treated with dignity and respect in all things. In this last month as she has become very unwell the staff have been so incredible. They care so deeply for the residents and their families and have looked after Mum and our family as if we are part of their family. Nothing is ever too much trouble and they always make time to chat and have delivered me endless cups of tea. Seeing life end well and without anxiety was not something I thought would be possible but the team here have made that a reality for my mum and family and their kindness has been extraordinary.

My dad us very settled in the home and happy. This is mainly due to the staff who take care of his needs which are only a few, but they are very kind, caring and talk to him. He enjoys the company in the dining room and ever meal, especially the desserts! The fine dining evening was excellent, great
service from the team and lovely food from the head cook, helped by the kitchen team. Everyone enjoyed the night with music, wine, friends and family Thank you so much.
The tables and chairs were decorated so nicely, along with the place settings. The waiting staff were so attentive throughout the evening and worked so hard. The violinist set the tone with in turn background music. Although I was apprehensive, my dad and I had a great few hours together and I his lunch and supper buddies.
Well done, great team work.

My mum moved into the home nearly five months ago after a long stay in hospital. Despite her apprehension, she was quickly made to feel at home by te friendly staff. Also when they were asked if she could move to a room with a better view they were quick to make it happen. Last week we had a wonderful
find dining experience where the staff really went the extra mile.
We are very pleased to have found such a good care home.

My mother has been a resident for over 10 years. The staff have looked after her so well, understanding her needs, giving her support when my father died and being friendly to us when we visit. There are a good variety of activities for residents to enjoy. The facilities are always clean and cared for.

The staff go over and beyond in their care for my mum. I am always impressed by their friendliness and caring attitude when I visit. There seems to be a brilliant range of activities for residents and we are kept fully informed of what is going on and what has happened. I couldn’t wish for a better

My mum had five very happy years at Horfield Lodge whilst living with Alzheimer's and dementia. Sadly she recently passed away but her family and friends agree she could not have had better care. Not just 'cared for' but 'cared about' and loved by the wonderful staff and carers. Mum was treated as part
of a family with kindness and dignity. As a family, we were always welcomed and involved. I especially appreciated the support that was given to me through some difficult periods. Communication was regular with the staff, medical professionals and agencies looking after mum's best interests.
During this very difficult period living through the pandemic, I could not fault the way that the many challenges were dealt with.
All in all, Mum enjoyed a positive and happy experience during a very difficult time in her life, loving the activities, especially music and singing.
We will always be grateful to all of the staff at Horfield Lodge for giving Mum a happy home for her twilight years.

Having spent the last couple of years in Horfield Lodge, my father sadly passed away recently. My brother and I are so grateful that he was cared for with such kindness, understanding and good humour by an outstanding and happy staff. Dad was always pleased to see them come into his room and it was
lovely to see a smile light up his face. My brother and I both live abroad and it was such a relief to know that Dad was safe and well cared for. We were always kept in touch with Dad’s state of health and we were able to video call him most days. I was fortunate to be able to spend Dad’s last two weeks with him and I am eternally grateful for the support shown to me by all the staff at Horfield during a difficult time.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.596)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.596) out of 10 for Horfield Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.596 for Horfield Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (235 Excellents x 5) + (85 Goods x 4) + (19 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 344 Ratings = 4.596
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Horfield Lodge is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
