I have always found all the staff on my visits extremely friendly and helpful.
I am also very happy with my mother's care she receives. She is always clean and tidy and her room kept clean.

From entering Horfield Lodge in May 2016 until her death, my mother was treated with total respect by everyone who cared for her. The love and care she was shown were exemplary. We were kept fully informed of her condition, doctor/district nurse visits, changes in medication, etc. This was in stark
contrast to the convalescent home she was in beforehand when she had to constantly ask to learn anything about her care/condition. I can sum up by saying that a friend who has a relative at Horfield Lodge said 'If I have to go into a care home then it would be Horfield Lodge' Never a truer word spoken.

Overall very satisfied - nothing to complain about.
Sorry that the turnover of staff is not great - there is not a lot of time to get to know them then they leave.

My children went around homes here and chose this one. I am not from Bristol. The home is beautifully situated between an east and west common which are lovely to walk in if one can walk, or be pushed in a wheelchair. There are plenty of activities here, most people enjoy them although I largely read
and attend a local history group here.
Almost all the staff are very kind and efficient from the manager on. The food has been variable, an aspect which is very important to people here; at the moment we have a good chef and that makes a real difference.
I began on the nursing floor over four years ago and have improved so much that I am now in a care suite and have even started cooking for myself!

We have an excellent doctors surgery and they visit regularly. Friends of my daughters have visited here and the husband is now here and I gather they are happy too.

On April 23rd it was my mother's 97th birthday. Horfield Lodge had also organised a St. George's Day party. The residents and mum's grandchildren and great grandchildren all joined in with party games. The atmosphere was lovely and inclusive and the children played the games with the residents and there
was lots of love and laughter and mum's grandchildren and great grandchildren were full of praise and enjoyment for a super afternoon.
Reply from Kathy Marshalsea, Home Manager at Horfield LodgeIt was a delight to see that the staff at Horfield made your Grandmother’s birthday such a positive and inclusive day for her and her extended family. We do understand how important it is to maintain links with loved ones and are pleased that they were able to use the day to get all to join in and make her day even more special.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.596)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.596) out of 10 for Horfield Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.596 for Horfield Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (235 Excellents x 5) + (85 Goods x 4) + (19 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 344 Ratings = 4.596
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Horfield Lodge is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
