Horfield Lodge is the most lovely home because of its kind and caring staff, pastoral support and volunteers. It has been my mother-in-laws' home for the past 5 years and she has been very happy there. Her health and emotional needs have always been met compassionately and with respect. As an example of how each resident is an individual one morning when I visited she was reading a poetry book which had been given to her by a member of staff. We cannot find anything but praise to say about Horfield Lodge.

My father in law was here for over two years. He and us were so pleased that the carers really did care about their residents.
They tried to make their time here as pleasant as they could.
The carers and staff really got to know their residents which makes all the difference.

The home itself is nice too!

My father was a resident on Willow floor and we found the standard of care and the commitment of staff to be first rate. Nothing was too much trouble and an atmosphere of calm kindliness was evident at all times. Staff went out of their way to be helpful, positive and supportive and built up an excellent relationship with my dad from the outset; they really seemed to understand him and see the lovely man behind the dementia right from the start.

I was a frequent visitor and spoke with many other residents; everyone seemed very happy there. Horfield Lodge provided everything I'd hoped for when choosing a residential home for dad, I always felt welcomed there too. I can't praise it highly enough.

I have always found all the staff on my visits extremely friendly and helpful.

I am also very happy with my mother's care she receives. She is always clean and tidy and her room kept clean.

From entering Horfield Lodge in May 2016 until her death, my mother was treated with total respect by everyone who cared for her. The love and care she was shown were exemplary. We were kept fully informed of her condition, doctor/district nurse visits, changes in medication, etc. This was in stark contrast to the convalescent home she was in beforehand when she had to constantly ask to learn anything about her care/condition. I can sum up by saying that a friend who has a relative at Horfield Lodge said 'If I have to go into a care home then it would be Horfield Lodge' Never a truer word spoken.

My children went around homes here and chose this one. I am not from Bristol. The home is beautifully situated between an east and west common which are lovely to walk in if one can walk, or be pushed in a wheelchair. There are plenty of activities here, most people enjoy them although I largely read and attend a local history group here.
Almost all the staff are very kind and efficient from the manager on. The food has been variable, an aspect which is very important to people here; at the moment we have a good chef and that makes a real difference.

I began on the nursing floor over four years ago and have improved so much that I am now in a care suite and have even started cooking for myself!

We have an excellent doctors surgery and they visit regularly. Friends of my daughters have visited here and the husband is now here and I gather they are happy too.

Overall very satisfied - nothing to complain about.

Sorry that the turnover of staff is not great - there is not a lot of time to get to know them then they leave.

On April 23rd it was my mother's 97th birthday. Horfield Lodge had also organised a St. George's Day party. The residents and mum's grandchildren and great grandchildren all joined in with party games. The atmosphere was lovely and inclusive and the children played the games with the residents and there was lots of love and laughter and mum's grandchildren and great grandchildren were full of praise and enjoyment for a super afternoon.

Reply from Kathy Marshalsea, Home Manager at Horfield Lodge

It was a delight to see that the staff at Horfield made your Grandmother’s birthday such a positive and inclusive day for her and her extended family. We do understand how important it is to maintain links with loved ones and are pleased that they were able to use the day to get all to join in and make her day even more special.
