My father moved into Horfield Lodge 3 months ago. In his late 90's he needed more care, support and stimulation, he was spending too much time in his room asleep. On the day he moved in he was delighted to be visited by a member of staff in his room with a dog, Layde. Layde is a regular visitor to the
home and he enjoys patting her. Dad's room had been freshly painted for his arrival and it is always kept clean and tidy. The nursing staff make sure he takes all his medication and has ensured his personal care needs are met. The staff are simply wonderful, they are all so patient and understanding, and we have been warmly welcomed. Staff have been polite, considerate and helpful, always ready to assist or explain. There are a range of activities for Dad to participate in to keep the mind and body active. He loves the weekly singalong with live music. He has enjoyed two wonderful birthday parties with live music, dancing, cake and wine! The home has a happy and friendly atmosphere.

Just been able to visit my mother in her room for the first time in 18 months. So brilliant. Thanks to all the staff for all their hard work during the pandemic and now with staff leaving and a shortage of volunteers.

My husband's aunt was a resident here for over 6 years before she passed away recently. We have always been very impressed by the standard of care she has received and by the quality of the staff. They showed kindness and compassion to our relative, and also to us. The support we received at the end
of her life was very special, with staff coming to visit her even though they were working elsewhere in the building, and the chaplain spending a considerable time at her bedside. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Horfield Lodge. We always felt we could trust them with our aunt's care.

My mum was welcomed into Horfield Lodge at the height of the pandemic. She was recovering from a broken hip and wrist following a fall and was very confused. Although I was not allowed to enter the building due to covid rules, I was reassured she was in safe hands. Staff have been kind and caring during
telephone contact and pod visits. I feel relieved and can sleep at night knowing my mum has care and support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during difficult times and after.

My dad has not been in Horfield Lodge for long, but he has obviously been well looked after throughout the pandemic. I have had regular phone calls keeping me up to date. He is cheerful, and most importantly, he obviously feels safe. The excellent level of care is much appreciated. I haven't been able
to rate some points as haven't been inside.

My mother has been living in Horfield Lodge since 2nd November the care that she has received has been of the highest standard. The staff are exceptional, kind and compassionate towards my mum and supportive and caring towards us as a family. Horfield Lodge is a lovely facility, the communal area is
light and bright and even in these difficult COVID times residents and staff chat and use the space together. The room are lovely and bright and I certainly recommend Horfield Lodge to other families.

It is difficult for me to write a review as my mother entered Horfield Lodge on March 12th and on March 22nd it closed t visitors and I have not been inside since. I can only go on what my mother has told me and the minimal contact I have had with the staff. Given the very difficult circumstances, the
home has worked hard to keep the residents safe and well. The staff are always very helpful and caring. My mum feels safe and cared for.

My mother has been living on the dementia floor at Horfield Lodge for the last 3.5 years. We are very impressed by the care she has been given throughout that time and the kindness and understanding of the staff. She has a bright en-suite room with a lovely view. The home is always clean, the food
looks good and a wide range of activities are provided. There is a large, attractive coffee shop area, which was open to friends, relatives and the public before the pandemic. My mum's health has deteriorated over the last year or so but she has still received excellent and appropriate care throughout that time, despite the challenges of the pandemic. We have got to know the staff well, having visited regularly up until March this year, and since then, we have been kept in touch regularly and been informed of any changes in my Mum's medical/health needs. I do not think she could be in a better place.

My mum has only been resident at Horfield Lodge since October 2020, but I have already noticed improvements in her general wellbeing compared to how she was in hospital. It means a great deal to me that Mum is being well cared for physically, emotionally and spiritually, and that though she's no longer
able to do many of the things she used to, she's being treated with dignity and supported to "be herself". When I have met staff, I have found them both efficient and compassionate, and I know my dad has valued this efficiency and compassion at what is also a very traumatic time in his life. The fact that Horfield Lodge were also excellent with my aunt was a key factor in Dad choosing Horfield Lodge for Mum when it became clear that Mum needed nursing care that couldn't be provided at home.

The care given at Horfield Lodge is exceptional, and it is a relief during the pandemic to know that my Dad is always cared for so well even though we cannot be there to visit in person. He is always clean, and so well looked after. The staff are so caring and go to great lengths to accommodate the
resident's individual needs. I am so grateful that my Dad is able to be in such a lovely home, with truly lovely people caring for him. I would highly recommend Horfield Lodge.

All the staff at Horfield Lodge have been excellent at supporting us in the unusual situation of both parents needing palliative care at the same time. My father was only in Harfield Lodge for not quite four weeks before he died but he was treated with great care, professionalism and kindness in that
time as were we his family. My mother continues to receive wonderful attention and we have confidence that her last days will be handled equally compassionately.

It has been an eight week, and counting, experience under extenuating circumstances. The team have had to contend with vulnerable people, lockdown and isolation and have provided friendly support to the residents and families.
I remain convinced that my parents received and continue to receive exemplary
care and support from the management and staff.

Mum has been in Horfield Lodge since last July and has received outstanding care since the first day she arrived. In these current difficult times, I want to share my families gratitude to everyone at Horfield Lodge who has loved and cared for my mum and who have repaid the trust we put in you with
compassion, dedication and love. Current times are so very hard for everyone, but Mum continuously says how kind everyone is, and we honestly consider ourselves blessed to have you all as Mum's extended family. The management of the home is incredible, and we cannot begin to imagine, particularly in these unprecedented times, how hard it must be to be in such a position of responsibility. My family is totally indebted to each and every member of staff who care for Mum and keep her safe and happy. We are currently relying on them so heavily to give her the love and care that we are unable to provide - always done with unfailing cheerfulness. Thank you!

My father-in-law was in residence for a little over a year. The feel of Horfield Lodge was just right for him. The staff were excellent - very friendly to the family and happy to care for my father-in-law. With having Alzheimer's Disease, he did not say much about his care but was happy enough in his
room watching TV or listening to music. The staff all loved him and were visibly upset when he passed away. I also built a good relationship with them.

Thank you for the sincere and loving care you gave my mother and father over the years at Horfield. What I noticed was outstanding and the personal approach to my parents and the genuine concern for them in a truly holistic way. The staff genuinely loved them rather than seeing them as a client providing
them with work. I fly over from New Zealand every year to see my parents and I was welcomed with love too.

A wonderful place, a home where dad was loved and cared for. All his needs were met, he was shown dignity and compassion, and his care was person-centred. Wonderful surroundings, great food and great activities. All the staff care deeply about their residents, and nothing is too much trouble for them.
Dad loved living there, and we will be forever grateful to them.

We were delighted at the standard of care dad received at Horfield Lodge. Dad was treated with dignity and respect by all staff, who provided an excellent standard of care and were very supportive towards him and us during some difficult and challenging periods of his illness. The lodge was always spotlessly
clean, and the food looked very appetising! There was always plenty of activities for residents.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.596)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.596) out of 10 for Horfield Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.596 for Horfield Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (235 Excellents x 5) + (85 Goods x 4) + (19 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 344 Ratings = 4.596
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Horfield Lodge is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
