Juniper really is a home from home. Having visited many nursing homes, and Juniper being the third home my father was in, it is definitely one of the best out there, and as a family we feel very lucky and privileged to have been able to place him in such a warm, caring and professional environment.
The home is very well presented (even more so after a recent refurb), with very good size en-suite bedrooms, large comfy lounges and excellent communal areas, beautiful garden and even a visitors cafe area.
Nothing is ever too much trouble from all the friendly and supportive staff, we are always made to feel very welcome and have always had the peace of mind that dad was being very well looked after and treated with the upmost dignity. In his final days there, the team went over and above in terms of support and kindness, not only ensuring he had all his needs met, but also us as a family at such a difficult time.
Extremely well run home with a great team - thank you for everything

Mum came to the care home in March 2024 having been in hospital and deemed to be at end of life.
However Juniper House staff brought her round to the point where she could enjoy life again. The good food and caring staff had a very positive effect. Although she couldn't walk and was doubly incontinent
the expert care she received made her twilight years the best they could be.
She thoroughly enjoyed the games, crafts, activities and particularly the regular live music entertainment.
Found all the staff to be extremely supportive to residents and family members. The homely atmosphere is maintained to a high level and ultra clean. Cannot fault the homely atmosphere or staff at all. Thank you all for everything you have done!
Reply from Karen Leach, General Manger at Barchester Juniper HouseThank you so much for taking the time to share such a heartfelt review. It means a great deal to our whole team. We are truly delighted to hear how well your mum settled with us and that she was able to regain comfort, enjoyment, and quality of life during her time here.
Our staff always strive to provide compassionate, personalised care, so knowing that the food, activities, and supportive environment made such a positive difference is incredibly rewarding. We're especially pleased that she enjoyed the games, crafts, and live music - bringing joy to our residents is at the heart of what we do.
Your kind words about our team and the homely, clean atmosphere will be shared with everyone; they will be touched by your appreciation.
Thank you once again for your trust and for allowing us to be part of your mum's journey. It was a privilege to care for her.

I can't fault this care home at all, my mother who was quite unhappy about going into a care home is now a very happy lady, the staff are exceptional, they are all so kind and caring and always take time to say hello and offer support where it is needed. As a family member I have also been very much
welcomed into the home as to the rest of my family also.

Amazing team at juniper. Gave me mum the best care possible through her last few months after her stroke.
All went above and beyond with support for us all as a family.
Such a homely environment throughout the home and always welcoming. Any issues we had or support we needed was never a problem for
management to help with.

Dad stayed at Juniper House for 5 months. Having to adjust from living independently, to being physically and mentally incapacitated. The care and friendliness he was shown by all staff was exceptional. The care team helped him adapt and cope with his new limitations. Dad loved the food, and all his
dietary requirements were met.

Dad had a full care plan in place that was regularly reviewed. We witnessed the high level of care delivered to all the residents, particularly at mealtimes when staff are under a lot of pressure. The care team remained inclusive and alert to balance every individual's needs, always with a smile and friendly chat.

During Dad's end of life care, my family feel blessed to be with my Dad until the end. The professionalism, care and love from all of the RGN's guided us through this sad time with support and ease. Dad was treated with the utmost dignity at all times, and his comfort was the priority, making the right decisions at exactly the right times.

Reply from Karen Leach, General Manager at Barchester Juniper HouseDear Yvonne, Thank you so much for taking your time to review us here at Juniper. Excellent, consistent kindly care, well led by management.
Sensitive approach to death with dignity.
One member of staff, in particular, is a great example but many other have been excellent others have been excellent throughout my mothers care, i.e. one member of staff, in particular, as a carer

My husband has been in Barchester Juniper House nearly two years with advanced dementia - unable to care or speak for himself. His care has been excellent - caring and respectful. I visit every day. The home is like home from home. Caring staff, homely atmosphere and thoughtfulness, even to myself.
My nephew, from Australia, visited - he had hardly got through the door and was very impressed with the home and my husband's room and the friendliness of staff. I know my husband is in good hands. The meals are very good and most of the time, presented well. I have recommended the home to others. I am very happy with Juniper.

Juniper house is an outstanding home in every aspect. Each and every member of staff is so kind, helpful, thoughtful and caring of all their residents. My mum feels safe, happy and is eating well. She needs extra nursing care and her nurses are so kind and attentive.
As soon as you walk into the home
there is a cosy, warm family atmosphere.
Her room is bright with new furniture and a lovely outlook on the garden. With the help of carers she can shower each day safely. Mum enjoys all her meals, when living alone she hardly ate and had a poor appetite.
I have observed the carers and all staff with other residents and they are treated with utmost kindness and respect. I am always made to feel welcome and I really like the happy atmosphere, there is plenty for mum to do if she wishes.
Mum likes to spend time in the garden which is kept beautiful with bird feeders, flowers and a fish pond.
I am truly thankful to the manager and her amazing team, Juniper Houser is wonderful.

Barchester Juniper House is an outstanding home.
My nan has been there for sixteen months now after only going in for two weeks rest, she absolutely loved it and wanted to make this her new home. All the staff are amazing, nothing is ever too much to ask from them. It's a very welcoming, clean and
family feel to the home. Activities are always on and loads of different things for her to enjoy plus being taken out to local places. It's always lovely and clean when we visit and full of smiles from the staff. This definitely makes it easier to leave Nan in the best hands when we leave.

Mum has been in Juniper now for a little over a year. The staff are very welcoming, cheery and approachable. They will always help with any concerns and keep families well informed. The standard of care is very good and individual needs are addressed. There are plenty of activities for residents to
enjoy if they wish to, but privacy is also respected. The grounds are beautifully kept and the communal areas and residents rooms are always very clean. The food is very good and residents are frequently consulted for their likes and dislikes. We would like Mum to be taken out into the garden a little more often but appreciate that this can be difficult due to varying demands on staff.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.855)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.855) out of 10 for Barchester Juniper House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.855 for Barchester Juniper House is calculated as follows: ( (288 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 331 Ratings = 4.855
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Juniper House is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hello, my name is Karen, and I am acting General Manager here at Juniper House. I started my career as a Registered Nurse in 1985.
I worked for NHS for many years and thoroughly enjoyed working in different departments. Then I left NHS and specialised in palliative care, working in Marie Curie Hospice where I gained a lot of experience of caring for EOL patients.
In 2019, I applied for the role of RGN in Juniper House, with years of experience and expertise in Care Homes, which is very different from other areas of nursing but very rewarding and most enjoyable. Within a few months, I was given the opportunity to become Unit Manager for elderly and Frail and enjoyed leading my team and developing the units to high standards.
In 2021, I applied for the position of Deputy Manager/Clinical Lead, Then in January 2025 I was asked to step up to General Manager to run the home, I am thoroughly enjoying my role and watching Juniper House flourish. I am proud to be a part of a wonderful team

I started at Juniper House in 2012 as a Care Assistant and was promoted to Senior Care Assistant within a month of being there. I was intrigued by the nursing side and was there for selected for the first Cohort to complete the Care Practitioner course in the country. This did not stop me from wanting to go further and the next stop was taking off to Northampton University where I completed a 3 year Nursing degree. Once qualified in May 2021 I had no doubt that I wanted to remain at Juniper House and practice as a qualified Nurse. With being qualified less than a year I applied to be head of Unit for the downstairs floor and was successful and this is where I am now.

Job Title: Administrator Joined: 2023

Hi, my name is Naomi. I joined Juniper in February 2023 as the Administrator to support our General Manager and our Deputy.

I am always on hand if any relatives, residents or co-workers have any questions or need help with anything. I can honestly say I love my job, and although I don't have a direct caregiving role to the residents, I really enjoy seeing them and talking with them on a daily basis. I have a varied background in finance, administration and customer service. I am a bit of a crazy cat lady and have two feline-related diplomas!!

In my spare time, I volunteer for the Cherwell Cats Protection. My office is next to reception, so please feel free to pop your head in and say hello.

Job Title: Senior Healthcare Assistant Joined: 2013

Hi. I’m Naomi and I’m a Senior Healthcare Assistant at Juniper House. I joined as a Carer in 2013 and was promoted after a year. I have previous experience of domiciliary care, supporting people in their own homes. I have gained experience in the residential and dementia communities here at Juniper House and I am looking forward to doing an NVQ3 in Care. I really enjoy my role, providing care with dignity to help people feel good for the rest of the day. I pay close attention to nutrition and hydration, making sure residents have appetising food and drinks of a consistency that makes it easy to swallow. I love getting to know residents, their backgrounds, their families and their likes and dislikes. It is often the little things that show we care, such as knowing whether an individual likes the radio left on or off, how they like to be referred to, and what little treats make them happy.
