Found the care home very clean and welcoming from first stepping foot in it. The carers have done a very good job looking after my Gran. She has enjoyed the outings out with them and says the food in the home is good. Before picking where my Gran would go I visited 8 care homes across Durham and this was my favourite by far. I am very pleased with our decision.

Mam receives excellent care. The staff went out of their way to make Mam feel safe and settled. It gives excellent care and we know Mam is well looked after, so it takes the worry away from us, knowing Mam is well cared for. Mam is happy and settled.

My father was a resident in the home for just under a year after spending time in two other homes. This care home far exceeded the other homes in the way he was respectfully treated and was much more engaged.

The nurses and carers, particularly two of them, went above and beyond any expectations, my family had and genuinely cared for my father’s welfare. He was properly supervised and never came to harm as he had done in previous homes.

My father has been in Rushyfields for about 6 weeks and is doing very well.

He has Lewy Body dementia in the latter stages. His care has been very good no complaints at all. He seems happy and settled. Staff are always happy to discuss matters. They are always cheerful.

This is a good care home where we feel our Mam is happy in her surroundings. However, more staff is needed on a night. The food is excellent and the home is furnished lovely.

This home has excellent standards of care, cleanliness, food and interaction with residents. The staff are not only very well trained but demonstrate care and commitment at all times. It really is apparent the welfare of residents is No.1 priority. I really can't speak highly enough of this home and would strongly recommend it to anyone.

Much better in all things, 100% from a few months ago.

Meals have always been excellent. There is also a much better feeling in the home and an excellent manageress at the moment, just waiting to see the new manager start, if it stays the same the home will be flying.

My dad lived in this care home until he died in December 2016. During the 2 years and 5 months that dad stayed in this home (we would have moved him but he suffered from agoraphobia), there were 3 managers, the final one being the least competent of them all.

Staffing levels were regularly below what you would expect and the level of care that my dad received was poor. He sat in his room every day and didn't come out or talk to anyone. The staff made some effort at first to try and encourage him, but this didn't last long at all.

I went to see him one day and yet again he was complaining that cream hadn't been put on his legs - he had cellulitis which was really nasty and in his care plan it stated that he needed the cream on his legs twice a day. When I asked the staff what had happened, I was told that the member of staff had forgotten!

I definitely would NOT recommend this home.

Reply from Alene Campbell, Operations Director at Rushyfields Residential and Nursing Home

Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of your dad in December 2016. I am very sorry to hear that the level of care that your dad received was poor and that you would not recommend the home. We took over Rushyfields in June 2017 and have been working with the team of staff to ensure that...

My stepfather in law has been a resident for almost three years and during that time he has never once complained about the home. I have always found it to be exceptionally clean and the staff have always acted in a professional manner. Their attention to his care and well-being is second to none.

My relative was admitted to Rushyfields for Intermediate Care. All of the care home's staff seemed to be friendly, committed and conscientious but, in my opinion, there were several occasions when there were insufficient on duty. This was noticeable as my relative, who generally took meals in her room, usually needed prompting to consume food and hot drinks before they cooled but she seemed to be regularly overlooked. Also, except in emergencies, the services of a doctor were not available on weekends. This once caused my relative to be without some essential medications for 3 days as they had not been re-ordered before the weekend and thus caused a deterioration of her health. As she was not able to walk she was offered no stimulation other than attention from physiotherapists, nor did she take part in any activities. Fortunately she was happy with her care and unaware of perceived problems.
