My Mum was cared for at The Oakes for 3 years following a stroke. The staff were brilliant with her, from the office staff, cleaner and laundry staff to the kind and professional carers who met all her needs. She was always treated with dignity as well as having a laugh and joke with her which she
loved. She was always clean, smartly dressed and well fed. The activity co-ordinator included her in the activities and she could often be found sat outside with the staff and other residents enjoying the lovely patio area. The manager would respond to any queries we had quickly and professionally.
As my mum's health deteriorated the staff met all her needs and were loving and kind with her in her last days. They supported myself and my sister when she died and we will always be grateful for everything they did for her.

The manager does an excellent job of creating the right culture in the home. Mum is cared for well and the home is always very clean. There are many activities organised and the staff are generally very good. I am happy with Mums care and Mum is happy in The Oakes Care Home.

Had an enjoyable day at the open day lots to do for all the family.
Entertainment coordinator is brilliant!
Carers are friendly and seem to be caring to the best of ability. Does seem as though they are short staffed sometimes with contractors in. Most staff are excellent.

Thank you for your review; we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. We are delighted you enjoyed our Open Day and appreciate the efforts of our Wellbeing Coordinator. We value our staff team and the work they do to support our Residents. We regularly review our staffing to ensure that the needs of our Residents are met. Unfortunately, however, short notice sickness does sometimes occur which results in the home having to use agency staff.

My husband first used the care home for respite care when I was not well. He settled in and was well looked after. He has since been in for daycare as he fell in the bath and is going once a week for a day to enable him to have a bath. He is treated with respect. As we have to have the bathroom altered
he will be going back on a regular basis for daycare and then for respite while the work is done. I have been very satisfied with his care and the way he is treated. The staff are very patient with him as he has Alzheimer's and can be awkward but nothing is too much trouble.

Blown away by the quality of care provided to my mum, way above expectations, they treat her as if she is their relative - not just when I visit, I have seen this with other residents. I have complete trust that my mother could not be looked after any better in her final months. The home is always spotless,
food quality, quantity and choice are amazing and they always have time and compassion for me to support me through my mother's deterioration/illness.

After deciding that my sister and I needed a break from looking after our mother who has vascular dementia at 88 years old, we finally chose The Oakes Care Centre due to the way that the other residents looked happy and clean and well looked after. The team of staff at The Oakes Care Centre are so dedicated
and nothing at all is too much trouble for them. Mum is well looked after, warm and safe and is actually socialising, It's a lovely place just like a hotel.

My father-in-law suddenly was not managing at home any more and Oakes had a place for him. He settled immediately and so far we cannot fault the place. I had elderly relatives in my family in care homes for years in a different area, and none of them came close to what we are experiencing so far at
Oakes.

Thank you to all the team there.

The service was excellent. The home and rooms are very good and clean and decorated. The short time I was in they had things on for residents and I would recommend it to anyone.

Mum has been a resident in The Oakes for 3 months now and we are very satisfied with the care and support she has been given. We have found the staff warm, caring and attentive towards her. Any questions we have are always dealt with and resolved very quickly. The dining room is very attractive and
welcoming and the residents always appear to be enjoying their food. Activities are both fun and varied and always delivered with lots of enthusiasm and encouragement.
Social evenings, trips out and musicians who come to entertain, gently enhance mum's stay.

My Mum moved into The Oakes in October. We were understandably anxious about her move as this was the first time she had been into a care home. However, any worries we had quickly disappeared. The Oakes is beautiful, the rooms are a good size and homely. The quality of the food is fantastic and the
menu varied, along with a regular trolley of treats. The staff are fantastic. They really care about the residents and treat them like their of own family. Any issues get sorted quickly and effectively. The Manager provides inspirational leadership. The Activities Co-ordinator ensures that residents get out and about. The team provides amazing care. It has been a huge relief to us that she is well cared for and happy. It is a huge weight off our minds, and we have absolutely no concerns about her in her new home. If you are lucky enough to have a family member admitted to The Oakes you will not be disappointed.

My mother has now been a resident at The Oakes for just over a year now. The care she has received during that time has always been first class. The staff are so very friendly, approachable, helpful and caring. I would also say that since the new manager took over several months ago there have been
so many improvements to the quality of the home itself including new carpets to the first floor and many other changes I know are still ongoing. I have no doubt that in due course if this continues The Oakes will become the number one choice in care homes in Huddersfield.

The Oakes Care Home, Huddersfield, in my experience is a professional establishment that employs staff who are fully committed to the upholding of the highest standards of care, whilst at the same time ensuring the dignity of those under their care and showing genuine love and affection toward all residents
and their visitors.

The levels of cleanliness are faultless, quality of food and range of menus and dietary needs are more than satisfactory. I can recommend this care home to anyone seeking a loving establishment for their loved ones.

My father moved into the care home a few weeks ago after spending time in hospital. His mind is still sharp but he needs help physically. I have not lived in the UK since 202 and I know that when I return home after visiting him I do not have to worry about his welfare.
The home is warm and inviting,
the staff are dedicated and caring and make sure he is as comfortable as possible and has everything he needs. He really could not be in a better place for his remaining years.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.431)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.431) out of 10 for The Oakes Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.723 for The Oakes Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (37 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 47 Ratings = 4.723
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.708 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Oakes Care Centre is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.333
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
