My father moved into the care home a few weeks ago after spending time in hospital. His mind is still sharp but he needs help physically. I have not lived in the UK since 202 and I know that when I return home after visiting him I do not have to worry about his welfare.

The home is warm and inviting, the staff are dedicated and caring and make sure he is as comfortable as possible and has everything he needs. He really could not be in a better place for his remaining years.

Under new management, the home has improved. Most of the carers are very good. I would like to see an improvement in making sure the resident eats and drinks enough fluid.

The new management is excellent in every way. The staff are much happier in their jobs and this they have told me. The food is of a very varied range/choice. It has been a great comfort and relief to our family to be confident our mother is in safe, caring, competent home. With staff who are really interested in the well-being of their staff or with excellent managers.

From my very first visit, I just loved the friendly calm atmosphere of the home.
Living close by meant that we could pop in regularly (day or night) and we were always greeted by a friendly face.

Dad always looked relaxed and was always smartly dressed by the carers. The home definitely has more the air of a hotel than your stereotypical image of a care home.

The home is clean and caring. The staff look after mum well. Entertainment is provided but it depends on how many of the dementia residents want to join in but the staff always try to engage everyone.

Emphasis has now been put on diet and nutrition to ensure residents are not dehydrated and maintain weight.

The manager is very enthusiastic and being new to The Oakes has started to make some positive changes. The staff all seem upbeat and positive. The facilities are only 4 years old and provide a comfortable environment. My mother is not terribly social so as part of the care plan we asked that staff encourage her to join in as much as possible, however, this seems to be a bit patchy. Overall, the experience is positive.

This is an extremely good home. The staff are always kind, caring, happy and pleasant. The new manager is very efficient and if there are any minor problems he sorts it out straight away and insists we see him any time to discuss care. The building is modern, some of the bedrooms need a refresh e.g. Painting but overall good.

I am able to visit The Oakes at any time and am always pleased to see my mother - who has increasingly severe dementia, doing well and generally very content, subject to her own occasional bad moods. The staff are always considerate and attentive and friendly too. I am often welcomed by name. The home is always clean and orderly and I and my siblings feel that our 92-year-old mother is in the best place.

My mum has been at The Oakes Care Centre since August last year. During that time, I cannot fault the care and attention she has had from the staff. They are obviously rushed and seemingly understaffed at times but are always kind and thoughtful. As I live 250 miles away from the home, I rely on the management communicating by email and have found this to be somewhat intermittent. Also, more activities for Dementia residents would help.

Good communication from staff. Although staff are very busy. Sometimes staff not always available to ask questions.
Mum settled in well and taken care of which takes the pressure off myself and family members.
Good premises and friendly staff. Well done and thank you.

Only slight issue is people not always available when you telephone to Oakes. But overall very good.

My mother has been at The Oakes since January 2016 and has had excellent service, particularly as this year she has been in her room 24/7 due to age and ill health, which of course means she requires more assistance. The staff could not have been more helpful.

My mother's entry into full-time care happened quickly.
This was the second home we visited.
We felt we did not need to visit others as this seemed perfect for Mum (with dementia).
It is in her home town and half a mile away from her old home.
Staff are always good and it is great to see the same staff week in week out.
Food seems good and they are constantly given drinks.

Only minor criticism (but due to it being a dementia floor impossible to eliminate) is that she never wears the same slippers twice and today had someone else's trousers on.

Overall satisfactory. Management could be more organised; think of the people in care and your staff rather than the look of the place, such as pictures on the walls and the like. The carers are very caring on the whole but need more staff to give them time to spend with the people in care. In the dementia department, there is more hands on care needed.

I live abroad and only get to see my Nana once a year. Since she has been in the home she has begun to suffer quite badly from memory loss. The staff have all been utterly wonderful with her and it is clear they are naturally caring and good with her. She likes them all very much. She is clearly well cared for and very happy, they have helped her make a very unhappy transition from independent living into a bearable and even happy one. Her physical and mental wellbeing (apart from a natural deterioration in her mental capacity) has improved very much from when she lived on her own. The staff are an utter credit to the home!

The staff are lovely and caring. We are always made to feel welcome. Nana is happy and well cared for. Staff are always ready to answer any questions or queries. If Nana needs assistance or medical care it is always there. The home gives us the family a reassurance that Nana is well looked after and cared for with dignity she deserves.

My aunt from the first day of attendance was treated very well. The staff always acknowledged us and were respectful, friendly and professional (A credit to the Meridian Group).
The staff wherever possible integrated my aunt with the other residents and activities.
My wife and I were extremely satisfied with the care provided to my aunt who sadly passed away peacefully on 19/7/16.

I would have no hesitation in recommending The Oakes, they do a splendid professional job in difficult circumstances. Well done.

From the day my mum became a resident at The Oakes the staff and management have gone out of their way to meet my mum's and our families needs. The attention we received in the last week of her life was amazing. Mum was treated like a member of their own family and we were contacted throughout when there were changes to my mum's condition. The staff also respected our privacy but were on call immediately when needed.
