Overall Experience
My Mum moved into Hopton just before Christmas after a long period in hospital, a subsequent care home and care at home. Its been a rather winding path to get her to Hopton, back in Mirfield where she whished to be.
I can't recommend this care home highly enough. From the moment you walk through the door, it's clear how much care and attention goes into looking after residents. The staff are attentive, patient and always cheerful, taking the time to properly get to know each resident as an individual rather than just going through the motions.
The home itself is clean, comfortable and well maintained, with a lovely homely feel rather than anything clinical. Meals are varied and nutritious, and there's a good range of activities on offer to keep residents engaged, social and smiling

Communication with families is excellent too - staff are always happy to update you and answer any questions. It's such a relief to know Mum is in safe, caring hands. Thoroughly recommended.

Thank you! What a wonderful review. We're thrilled with how Mum has settled with us, as I thought & hoped she would. To hear we're meeting or exceeding our families' expectations is what we strive for as a senior leadership team. Great family to have at the home. Thank you again for this feedback which we share with all our team, Joseph.

My dad moved into Hopton Care Home and was a resident there for just short of 4 years until his recent passing.
From the initial meeting just before he moved in I could tell he would be well looked after.
The home and residents rooms are lovely, comfortable well equipped and clean. The kitchen staff provide a choice of meals each day for the residents and dad loved 'fish and chip friday'.
All the staff and management were wonderful with Dad, treating him with respect, dignity, love and understanding, and i cant thank them enough. I could visit whenever I wanted and was always made to feel welcome.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Hopton Cottage Care Home to anyone.

Carlsberg don't do care home relatives but if they did.. it would be you Susan. One of most popular daily visitors we've had. We loved Doug and he was part of the hopton family as you were and always will be. Joseph

My dad became a resident at Hopton Cottage a year ago when he moved in to help him manage his dementia symptoms.
The care he (and I) received not from day one but in fact from 2 weeks before day one when he was invited for a visit, was outstanding and remained outstanding for the whole year he was there before he sadly passed away.
The staff were excellent with him. Got to know him well in that time. Got to know his likes and dislikes and got to know us very well too. They were always warm and welcoming and you knew when you left that your loved one was being looked after.
In the final week, the warmth and kindness that was shown to my dad and us was second to none. Nothing we asked of them was too much and they made sure that my dad was comfortable and constantly looked after.

I had no idea about care homes and how to choose one but I now know that Hopton Cottage is a great example and highly recommend it.

Dear Amy,

I love this review and thank you for taking the time to place it. We loved having a champion of industry in our care and he was very popular with all our team and fellow residents. Dementia is a cruel disease but I'm glad we were able to be of some comfort to dad and to you. You were a very regular and popular visitor. Very best wishes to your family.

My mum went to Hopton Cottage for 6 weeks respite, she had a really bad chest infection a couple of days in which was managed brilliantly, during her time there her medications were assessed and changed for the better and even though she suffers from COPD and severe anxiety she felt comforatble and safe during her stay and I would definatlely recommend this care home to other friends for their family members.

I would like to thank Suzanne and Frankie who both went above and beyond to make my mum feel comfortable and settled , spending alot of time talking to her, getting to know her and her interests, buying her fleecy pyjamas that she felt 'safe and warm' in and generally caring about her and her needs.

My review actually covers the past 7 years. My aunt became a resident in June 2019. During her time there she was treated with courtsey, care, compassion and love. From the outset the home provided an environment where she flourished. She enjoyed the food, which meant her health and weight improved and varied activities to stimulate her. Her room was always tidy with a private decking area to her room where we could sit when visiting. During vivid when we couldn't visit in person I was able to video call her every week at a designated time, This face to face experience was appreciated by the family and especially my aunt. Events like Christmas , were celebrated and the family and friends given a warm invitation to attend. She was also taken on outside visits. Her hundredth birthday celebration last year was a wonderful event. As her health deteriorated the staff looked after her brilliantly ,keeping us informed and contacting the various medical practitoners. Thank you Hopton

We are enormously grateful to everyone at Hopton cottage for the excellent care my Aunt received there until her recent death at the age of 100. She was treated by everyone with care and respect, as were we, and regarded Hopton as her home. All her many medical and emotional needs were managed well enabling a life lived to the full. Everyone was friendly and helpful and if there were any small issues they were dealt with quickly and efficiently.
Residents have a weekly programme of daily activities which, as well as providing entertsinment and stimulation, encourage them to ' llive well" . Everything from yoga to Fab Friday afternoons of entertainment provided by singers and performers
Food is very good and, although she ate a restricted diet due to health issues, she really enjoyed her food.

We considered 15 homes before finding Hopton. Our standards are high and have been more than met by Hopton cottage.

As my aunt said

"This my home now and I can fault nothing"

My mum was resident in the home for 5 years until she died recently. During her stay, she highly valued the staff who were caring, hard working and efficient. The staff were always pleasant when I spoke to them and were kind to the residents. I have and will continue to recommend other people to the home and praise their high standards. I will sadly miss visiting the home now that Mum has passed.

Overall Experience

My father was a resident from March 2025 until he sadly passed away in December 2025. He had become a resident after being diagnosed with dementia, and was unable to continue living independently. Either myself, my wife or one of our children visited him daily, and we always found the staff caring, considerate and friendly with both him and the other residents. In comparison to other residential homes, the residents rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Unlike a lot of other premises I looked around prior to my father becoming a resident, all the rooms had a pleasant en-suite bathroom, and the ground floor rooms have individual outdoor seating areas. When my father became really ill, he spent his last days in his room. We were provided with sleeping facilities, so a family member could remain with him 24 hours a day, if we chose to. It was a relatively short stay for my father at the home, but for the time he was there, I couldn't really find fault with the whole experience.

After a heart breaking decision that our father could not cope looking after himself at home any longer and still awaiting the consultants diagnosis for dementia we looked at a couple of homes recommend. All seemed adequate and I googled Hopton Cottage care home as it was near to us and visited there. Although more expensive than others, we felt really comfortable from walking in the front door and the visit showed us the entire home. We liked the activities and all residents looked happy and well cared for. On walking round I popped into a residents room who family were visiting. They told me they wouldn't have their mum anywhere else. All staff are trained to a very good standard and it showed they all cared. It wasn't just a job. From the on site chef who prepared delicious food, to their own space whilst a planner of activities for all residents to participate. Our father came initially for a 2 week trial and after a week told us he was happy & wanted to stay. Would recommend.

My Aunt spent the last 9 months of her life in Hopton Cottage Care Home after sadly and suddenly loosing her husband of 69 year who had become her carer. They were a team, having not had the gift of children and led a very active life prior to illness. She was 91 with sight and mobility issues. Adapting to such a major change came with many challenges. All of which were met with great empathy, support and at times good humour. For this I will always be very grateful.
Without fail, I was always met with enthusiasm and supported during my visits, including the tasks & paperwork involved in taking care of my Aunt. There were many!
My Aunt was always invited to be involved in activities, as was I, some accepted more gracefully than others by my Aunt, but never an issue.
The room facilities were excellent and enabled family to make it a more personal space whilst also giving the option of privacy, if required.
My family and I were delighted with the care and consideration given.

Thank you

My father was in Hopton Cottage for over 4 years. In that time he was extremely well cared for. I can highly recommend HC as the perfect place to be when you can no longer look after yourself.

My dad spent 12 months at Hopton Cottage before his passing at the age of 92. However the care and friendship that the team showed dad during that time was wonderful to see and made me feel very comfortable that he was being looked after so well. The staff always had time to talk to Dad and his face would light up when a particular staff member came to see him. He was always clean and smartly dressed when I went to visit and the room always kept clean and tidy.
In his last few weeks as he fell ill the staff did all they could for him and still made sure he was well presented even though his mobility had suffered and ensured his last moments were as comfortable as they could be.

Thank you so much to this staff member and her team.

My parents were both in Hopton for over 3 years, Dad died May of last year and Mum passed away July this year(both aged 94). I cannot praise all the staff enough for the dedication they all show into making sure that their residents are treated with so much love and respect. My Mum had dementia and over the 3 years it became much more advanced but everybody at Hopton, whatever their role, always took the time to just sit, hold her hand and talk to her about her life and I felt that my Mum and Dad (and my husband and I)were part of a large loving family.
The home is immaculate, the food exceptional and the entertainment team go above and beyond to organise outings, concerts, games nights, arts and crafts and lots of parties for various events to which families are all invited.

The end of life care given was exceptional and my Mum and Dad were cherished and loved. All the staff at Hopton are angels and if you need a Care Home for your loved one, choose Hopton , they are the best.

we transferred Mum to Hopton cottage from a care home that had failed to meet any basic standards of care for Mum so family were anxious that this new provider would meet our expectations.

from the first conversation with the manager right the way through the process of arranging assessment and admission the process and communication with mum and us as a family was superb. the attention to detail re getting to know who the person was that would be joining them and what our expectation was of mum moving over to them was as a clinician myself reassuring to see real person centred care being applied. I cannot fault the well thought out environment, attention to detail for each individual resident and the care and attention given to mum and her family throughout her time with them until her sad death. each and everyone one we encountered were superb and Mum loved being there. the care and respect for residents in their care is to be applauded, they are an exemplar of elderly care.

Mum has been a resident for the past 9 years sadly passing away recently at the ripe old age of 99yrs. From the onset she settled in very quickly enjoying the freedom of her own room with all required amenities and a large patio area where she could tend her plants and relax on a bench. We spent many hours sitting out chatting about what activities she'd been up to and the enjoyable trips out Hopton provided including regular visits by dogs, ponies and children. She also loved dancing and socialising with members of staff. The care given by everyone is second to none, from management, carers, entertainment team, reception staff, laundry cleaners they all do a fantastic job and the food provided is excellent. Mum was treat with dignity and respect right to end of life and cannot thank the amazing staff enough. I have no hesitation in recommending this family run business to anyone having to make the awful decision to put a member of their family in a care home. Thank you Hopton.

Whilst my mother in law in was at the Hopton she was so happy and I am sure she felt safe and at home.

Sadly has her dementia impacted on her independence the care and support she received was brilliant.

Her personal care was of the highest order. Nothing was too much for the staff and management.

Communication was very good especially when she was struggling with her health. We always felt like one of the family when we visited.

The support we received when my mother in laws journey began was amazing. We never felt alone.

My mother had advanced dementia and was a resident in the Greenway area at Hopton for over 2 years. I lived in Bath and although Hopton was a long way to come and visit Mum, we did not once think to try and move her as the homes in our area were nowhere near as good! They promoted independence and stimulation which in turn leads to self respect and dignity for residents. There was no TV on blaring out in the lounge, but wonderful "old-time music" with stimulating games, arts and crafts were also done. As Mum's dementia advanced Hopton adapted her care to suit her needs. Mum was always beautifully dressed. Her skin and nails were always done and she enjoyed the trips to the in-house hairdresser. Mum was always cheerful and full of smiles. The wonderful caring staff were at the core of Hopton and the care was first class. Thank you Hopton for all your wonderful care, I just wish other homes had your wonderful and individual approach to looking after advanced Dementia.
