Mum was in the care home for nearly 4 years. Throughout that time, from bringing Mum in, the paperwork, the love and care, attention to detail, the regular check-ins, the monthly updates, the health monitoring, the visiting at a time that suited us... all was handled with compassion and empathy. Vanda
Baker is the Manager and the staff are brilliant under her guidance. The facilities are excellent and it really is the staff that make this place. Activities are many and varied with regular supervised trips out. The magazine is brilliant and they make a point of featuring everyone during the year to give the families and friends something to look out for. They really do care. This is the sort of place you wish for to give your loved ones a beautiful place to have their final years. It's not the cheapest place and it is great value for money based on the care taken. I would recommend this Care home to anyone.

I cannot fault the care that my mother has received on her dementia journey over the 8 1/2 years that she has been in Colten Care Homes. I am so glad that she came to Winchester to live near us, and enjoyed the social life at St Cats. The energy, dedication and patience shown by all the staff without
exception is remarkable, and now as she ends her dementia journey I have a sense of calm and peace descending over her and us. Thank you everyone for all you have done and continue to do for those with dementia.

Have nothing but praise for the team at St Catherine's View. Mum was admitted in January 2025 due to her advanced dementia. We looked after mum at home until we could no longer cope with her challenging behaviour but the team there do a fantastic job and mum seems quite settled.

She does not join

in any activities so I am unable to comment on them.
Reply from Vanda Baker, Home Manager at St Catherines ViewThank you for sharing your experience. The decision to move dad into a care home to support his late stage dementia was a difficult one, the choice of home however is something we have never regretted. It was important to us for dad to be in a specialist dementia facility where his condition and needs would be understood.

We are so grateful

to all the staff at St Catherines View and the exceptional care dad received there. Visiting dad often we could see how well dad was supported and cared for. The nursing and care staff were excellent, extending that kindness to us too.

My friend has been with you since January 2025. Since being here in St Catherines, she has settled so well lots of extra care and support with her specialist needs. The teams have all been wonderful I could name so many however they are all so caring and patient with my friend. The staff member who
manages to get her showered regularly has been brilliant, my friend responds to her. The activities coordinator gets her engaged with activities. Well done everyone!

The success of any home is most influenced by the style set by its leader. St Catherines View has a staff team from any backgrounds but without exception follow the standards set by the home manager. My wife has been a resident for over 2 years and despite the limitations of her dementia, she has often
expressed her happiness & contentment with St Catherines. This is a great comfort to me, as her husband. Recently, the companionship leader arranged for her to go sailing which she loved, having sailed with me and her friends over the years.
Reply from Vanda Baker, Home Manager at St Catherines ViewIt's lovely to hear your kind words about St Catherines View and how our team has supported your wife over the past two years. Knowing she feels happy and content, even with the challenges of dementia, means so much to us. Hearing how much she enjoyed the sailing trip was a joy for the team as well, helping her reconnect with something she's loved for so long is exactly why we do what we do. Thank you again for taking the time to share this.

On discharge from hospital my husband joined St Catherine's View in December 2024. Our family are very grateful for the care that he received and the support offered to us by all the staff.
Sadly, his time at St Catherine's was shorter than we had hoped, but during his stay we felt that he was in safe
and sympathetic hands and all the staff could not have been more helpful.

My elderly father fell and broke his hip in September and had a spell in hospital. Upon going home, it was clear that he was not going to manage and my brother and I were going abroad simultaneously. The decision was made to move dad into care and St Catherines was incredibly quick to assist with dad's
assessment being completed within 48 hours and his seamless move into his room 48 hours after that. The care and kindness that everyone at St Catherines View showed not just my dad but all of us at a very difficult time was outstanding. The level of care he received was exceptional and we always felt very comfortable that he was being well looked after. I will always be incredibly grateful for everything the team at St Catherines View did for my dad while he was there, you are all wonderful!

I looked at several care homes prior to choosing St Catherines View. Immediately I was struck by a sense of family, love and happiness. The staff throughout my mother's time at the home have been professional, loving, caring and considerate. Whenever I dropped in my mum looked happy, well-turned out
and content. In her final days, both I and my brothers were overwhelmed by the warmth of all the staff and the tenderness they showed my mother. I highly recommend St Catherines.

My mother was a resident at St Catherines View dementia care home for 18 months until her recent death.
During that time and especially as her end neared, the care home staff were absolutely wonderful.

I cannot thank and congratulate you more, the management, care and teamwork offered by you all at St. Catherines View Care Home in Winchester.
My mother has been a happy resident for 5 years, which naturally includes the dreadful Covid period, a very traumatic time for us all, not least for the staff
and management.
The social outings and in-home events arranged by the excellent activities team are to be applauded. They offer so much pleasure to the residents and it is a great comfort, as a daughter, to know that my dear mum is not just sitting, 'vegetating' and waiting to die.
She recently celebrated her 101st Birthday.
I would very much appreciate it if my sentiments and grateful thanks could be shared with your wonderful team.

I am eternally grateful that we found St Catherines View for Mum. She has settled happily there, thanks to the efforts of everyone involved. All of the staff (and I really mean everyone) are so caring and kind and I feel totally confident that she is being well looked after. I love the way they all
greet her with warmth, a smile and her name when they see her. They keep in touch with us well and clearly value Mum and her quality of life. The system of smaller home groups within a larger home works really well for Mum, giving her a safe, manageable space within the wider community. The gardens are beautiful, well kept and provide wonderful stimulation for people with dementia. It has been really helpful to be able to visit at any time and the staff are always helpful and accommodating.

My mother had been in St. Catherines View for four and a half years, where her care had been kind and caring. Her developing health issues from April were managed in a way we would all want for our elderly relatives. But, the care in my mother's last few days was beyond everything we could have wished
for. The kindness and constant attention helped me too and, in fact, in the end all was calm and all was easy. Thank you.

Accommodated in a modern purpose-built complex, St Catherines View offers the best possible environment for the provision of excellent dementia care. Medical care benefits from having nurses onsite 24-7. Liaison with GPs and the hospital is seamless. Food is cooked from scratch onsite. It is first-class.
Full-time activity staff motivate residents and day trips feature. The quality of management and staff alike is unrivalled. From reception staff to nurses, carers and cleaners, they are, without exception, professional, polite and totally trustworthy. A splendid example of teamwork, professional development is encouraged, and staff turnover is low. I cannot recommend St Catherines View highly enough.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.885)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.885) out of 10 for St Catherines View is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.960 for St Catherines View is calculated as follows: ( (192 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 200 Ratings = 4.96
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Catherines View is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 registered maximum number of service users is 11.4, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
