We are very pleased with the first month of Charles' time at West Hall. The staff and management have been very welcoming and caring. The accommodation and grounds are perfect for Charles, and he appears to be settling in well. I think we made the right choice!

Roger was well cared for and safe during his respite stay while I was on holiday in Slovenia. He was very adequately fed and his room was extremely clean and well appointed. This was his first stay in a care home and I think the standards at West Hall helped him to adapt to this unfamiliar, temporary experience. I am not sure that he took sufficient advantage of the activities on offer, as he may have been a bit reticent and needed a bit of coaxing.

West Hall helped us host a wake for my step-father who had been a former resident. The team were exceptional. The function space superb and they went out of their way to host to a high level, the on duty manager polishing our glasses and the chefs catering superbly. One of the carers (Markie) attended as a guest and was a huge support to everyone there, including some other wheelchair bound residents. Five stars for support all round.

Having viewed 8 other care homes we chose West Hall and Birch in particular for 1) the caring attitude of the staff, 2)friendly, welcoming atmosphere 3) high standard of rooms and facilities. After 7 months we have not been disappointed and would add 4) low turnover of staff.

My mother, who had advanced dementia, received excellent care while she was in West Hall (for several years). I can't praise the staff enough, particularly her key worker and the other carers. I will be forever grateful to them for the care they provided, and I would highly recommend West Hall.

I would just like to say how impressed my family were with the thoughtful and proactive way Oak Lodge management dealt with a change of routine, which had unsettled our mother. Once the reasons for the move had been explained, it became obvious it had been made in mother's best interests, and we were filled with admiration by the Lodge's swift adjustment of the plan to reassure her while still ensuring the safest outcome for her. The new setup meant everyone was happy. Thank you not just for listening but for taking action so promptly.

My husband recently stayed at Birch Lodge within West Hall for respite care, and we were extremely pleased with the experience. The staff were very friendly, kind, attentive, and treated him with genuine respect. They took the time to get to know him quickly, and included him in two outings during his stay with them. The meals were excellent, and he was cared for with real kindness, which gave our whole family great peace of mind.

I would like to say a big thank from the family to the team at West Hall for the quick turnaround for mum when she was discharged from hospital just before Christmas. To enable mum to have some rest-bite for three weeks the care team assessed mum at short notice. Thank you for the professional care mum had during her stay it has been appreciated.

When I first contacted West Hall for a room I had left it till the last minute. I was treated very efficiently and a room was found; it didn't matter if I was discharged from hospital a day later than expected. The room was bigger than expected (I have a bit of claustrophobia) with a nice view. I could have breakfast in bed. I was given 2 nice showers. The facilities were clean and the staff very kind. I would recommend it to anyone. I was sorry I didn't try any of the activities.

My father has been living at West Hall for over six years and is completely dependent on the staff for all his needs. His carers have taken time and trouble to understand his needs and preferences, and even though he is immobile and non-verbal, they ensure he takes part in activities and events. The team have also helped and supported me in applying for funding. Excellent.

Paula Rifai
Paula RifaiJob Title:General ManagerJoined: 2025

I’m writing to introduce myself as the new General Manager of West Hall. I have had the privilege of working in the care sector for the past 35 years, and during this time, I have grown both professionally and personally. My journey started as a Carer, and through dedication and passion, I advanced to Senior Carer, Head of Care, Deputy Manager, and Acting Manager, before ultimately becoming a Registered Manager. For the past 26 years, I have been a Registered Manager with various care companies, where I have had the opportunity to achieve outstanding results, including two excellent outcomes and a "Good" rating with an Outstanding "Well Led" outcome in my previous care home.

Throughout my career, I’ve embraced every opportunity to enhance my skills and qualifications, ensuring that I meet the evolving standards and regulations required for this role. I joined Anchor in January 2023 as the Registered Care Home Manager for Moore Place, where I was thrilled to lead the team to achieve the top score of 10 on independent website carehome.co.uk. Our hard work paid off when Moore Place was ranked among the Top 20 Care Homes in the South East in 2024.

I am excited to take on the role of General Manager for West Hall. I am looking forward to working with the dedicated team here, getting to know the residents and their families, and leading West Hall to new heights. My vision is to work collaboratively with everyone, ensuring that we provide the highest standard of care and continue to thrive as a home.

Gary Dunn
Gary DunnJob Title:Deputy General ManagerJoined: 2025

It is my privilege to introduce myself as your new Deputy General Manager of West Hall. I have been working in the care sector for the past 10 years with my journey starting in my hometown of Swindon, where I worked in domiciliary care while maintaining the CQC Outstanding rating.

The wealth of experience and knowledge gained led me to continue with my passion to work within this sector. I moved to Surrey in 2019 and gained a position within Anchor as Team Leader at Moore Place. Throughout this time, I have seen many changes, working with a talented, and passionate team which we ensured Moore Place was recognised as a CQC “Good” rated care home in 2022 and Top 20 Care Home for the South East in 2024. For the past 12 months I have been in an Acting Deputy Manager role, successfully overseeing operational changes and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

This new chapter in my career at West Hall is an exciting opportunity, not only to work alongside such an outstanding team but also establishing a good rapport with residents and families alike.

I look forward to meeting you all and to continue the success of West Hall.

Sophie Waite
Sophie WaiteJob Title:Wellbeing ManagerJoined: 2025

I joined West Hall as the Wellbeing Manager in April 2025, and I’m thrilled to be part of such an incredible team. I graduated with a Drama degree in 2014 and began my career in care in February 2018. Since then, I’ve worked with a few different care providers, gaining valuable experience along the way. I truly believe I have the best job and have never looked back.

In addition to my experience, I commission the activities department for a new build care home, building close relationships with residents and their families, and ensuring the activity programme was designed to best support residents’ wellbeing and engagement.

During my time in care, I’ve been able to apply my creative skills to develop engaging and inclusive activity programmes. I’ve planned and organised a wide range of events and activities, including summer parties, Bonfire Night celebrations, archery sessions, Cognitive Stimulation Therapy sessions for residents living with dementia, and a unique ‘12 Weeks Around the World’ programme where residents virtually explore different countries through their culture, food, music, and traditions.

I’m passionate about delivering one-to-one activities and engagement to ensure we meet every resident’s needs, especially creating programmes tailored for those living with dementia. The most rewarding part of my role is building personal connections with residents and their families, which allows me to tailor activities that reflect the interests and preferences of everyone living in the home.

Mark Wren
Mark WrenJob Title:Services ManagerJoined: 2017

I am the Services Manager at Anchor West Hall and have been in this role since the beginning of January 2024, overseeing several departments which include catering, housekeeping, maintenance and activities. Supporting my colleagues and interacting with the residents here are the highlights of my day, and I couldn’t ask for a more picturesque location to work in; the manor house and grounds of West Hall are truly exquisite.

Overseeing the Hospitality and services of the home gives me the opportunity to work collaboratively with each head of department, ensuring that West Hall does not just meet the needs of the residents, but exceeds them every day by providing the level of care and service that our CQC rating of ‘Outstanding’ truly deserves.

Chola Chilufya
Chola ChilufyaJob Title:Oak Lodge - Lodge ManagerJoined: 2006

With over 19 years of dedicated service at Anchor, I am proud to have been part of a passionate team that has achieved consecutive CQC Outstanding ratings. My career has been rooted in a strong commitment to excellence, integrity, and a genuine passion for improving the lives of others.

As Lodge Manager, I focus on creating a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for residents where their wellbeing, dignity, and individual needs are at the heart of everything we do. I believe in building strong, trusting relationships not only with residents and their families, but also with the dedicated team I lead. I strive to nurture a positive culture where colleagues feel valued, empowered, and inspired to deliver exceptional care every day.

With a background in Biomedical Science and formal leadership training, I bring a thoughtful and analytical approach to management. I pride myself on being reliable, ambitious, and deeply motivated by the impact we can have on people's lives, making every day matter for those we care for.
