Having had experience of quite a few care homes over the years with family members with dementia, I find the facilities and environment here excellent and staff attentive. My friend has settled in very quickly and happily. Highly recommend this care home.

All the carers were extremely caring and kind and were always happy to help and support me. The activities were many and varied and wonderful. I enjoyed being at the the Manor House for lunch and various activities and and the Daisy,Daisy Bike. I thought my room was wonderful and comfortable. Our mother has recently moved into West Hall (Birch Lodge), and our experience this far exceeded our expectations. We were quite apprehensive about the transition but the staff were so kind and supportive to our mother and all of us as a family. For the last few weeks, we have felt more and more comfortable with mum being here with regular updates and photos being sent. Mum also looks happy and well looked after and she has certainly settled into her comfortable surrounding far quicker than we imagined. The staff are so caring which is clear to see.

My Aunt went into West Hall for 2 weeks of respite care, whilst my cousin went away.
She suffers from the mild stages of dementia and was assessed as needing to go into Maple Lodge to monitor her more closely at night.
Every member of staff I and my cousin came into contact with was friendly, personable and engaging. They all seemed eager to please and listened to all of our requests regarding my Aunt. Many of the staff have worked there for a long time.
The home is very light and airy and has a very cheery atmosphere. There seems to be a good morale between all of the staff and the residents. My Aunt's room had an en suite, was very clean and comfortable and let a lot of light in.
There are daily activities, regular outings and a choice of eating areas to dine in.

We were able to organise an afternoon tea for one of her friends and we joined in the quiz night. The home also allowed Holy Communion to be brought in for my Aunt which was very important to her and very much appreciated.

On visiting West Hall I was struck by the peaceful, calm atmosphere and knew immediately that it was the place where I wanted my husband to be care for in a safe environment.
From the first enquiry to his admission and subsequently being a resident here, I have found all staff to be friendly, compassionate , kind and professional. Residents are treated with dignity and I was/am very pleased with the individualised care my husband is receiving.

Meals are nurturing and well presented, and the rooms are spacious and well decorated. I cannot thank the staff enough for all that they have done to help my husband to settle in well and to help me as well. I feel that this is indeed the right place for him. Thank you West Hall Lodge.

Our mum has been at West Hall for over 5 years. During her time in Birch Lodge she has always seen treated with the utmost respect, dignity and above all, kindness. We couldn't be happier as a family. Birch, led by a brilliant staff member, always been helpful, supportive and pro-active when dealing with any issues concerning mum. My sisters and I will be forever grateful for the brilliant care mum receives at West Hall.

My mother has been on Birch Lodge for 7 months now and she has settled in well and become a much happier person. The care she has been given, led by a member of staff, has been exemplary. She is cared for by people who understand the care she needs, and it is tailored for her. My father has been to visit her from another Lodge on an almost daily basis and has been made welcome too. This member of staff is a wonderful manager, and I appreciate all her support.

Meet the Team (5)

Paula Rifai
Paula RifaiJob Title:General ManagerJoined: 2025

I’m writing to introduce myself as the new General Manager of West Hall. I have had the privilege of working in the care sector for the past 35 years, and during this time, I have grown both professionally and personally. My journey started as a Carer, and through dedication and passion, I advanced to Senior Carer, Head of Care, Deputy Manager, and Acting Manager, before ultimately becoming a Registered Manager. For the past 26 years, I have been a Registered Manager with various care companies, where I have had the opportunity to achieve outstanding results, including two excellent outcomes and a "Good" rating with an Outstanding "Well Led" outcome in my previous care home.

Throughout my career, I’ve embraced every opportunity to enhance my skills and qualifications, ensuring that I meet the evolving standards and regulations required for this role. I joined Anchor in January 2023 as the Registered Care Home Manager for Moore Place, where I was thrilled to lead the team to achieve the top score of 10 on independent website carehome.co.uk. Our hard work paid off when Moore Place was ranked among the Top 20 Care Homes in the South East in 2024.

I am excited to take on the role of General Manager for West Hall. I am looking forward to working with the dedicated team here, getting to know the residents and their families, and leading West Hall to new heights. My vision is to work collaboratively with everyone, ensuring that we provide the highest standard of care and continue to thrive as a home.

Gary Dunn
Gary DunnJob Title:Deputy General ManagerJoined: 2025

It is my privilege to introduce myself as your new Deputy General Manager of West Hall. I have been working in the care sector for the past 10 years with my journey starting in my hometown of Swindon, where I worked in domiciliary care while maintaining the CQC Outstanding rating.

The wealth of experience and knowledge gained led me to continue with my passion to work within this sector. I moved to Surrey in 2019 and gained a position within Anchor as Team Leader at Moore Place. Throughout this time, I have seen many changes, working with a talented, and passionate team which we ensured Moore Place was recognised as a CQC “Good” rated care home in 2022 and Top 20 Care Home for the South East in 2024. For the past 12 months I have been in an Acting Deputy Manager role, successfully overseeing operational changes and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

This new chapter in my career at West Hall is an exciting opportunity, not only to work alongside such an outstanding team but also establishing a good rapport with residents and families alike.

I look forward to meeting you all and to continue the success of West Hall.

Sophie Waite
Sophie WaiteJob Title:Wellbeing ManagerJoined: 2025

I joined West Hall as the Wellbeing Manager in April 2025, and I’m thrilled to be part of such an incredible team. I graduated with a Drama degree in 2014 and began my career in care in February 2018. Since then, I’ve worked with a few different care providers, gaining valuable experience along the way. I truly believe I have the best job and have never looked back.

In addition to my experience, I commission the activities department for a new build care home, building close relationships with residents and their families, and ensuring the activity programme was designed to best support residents’ wellbeing and engagement.

During my time in care, I’ve been able to apply my creative skills to develop engaging and inclusive activity programmes. I’ve planned and organised a wide range of events and activities, including summer parties, Bonfire Night celebrations, archery sessions, Cognitive Stimulation Therapy sessions for residents living with dementia, and a unique ‘12 Weeks Around the World’ programme where residents virtually explore different countries through their culture, food, music, and traditions.

I’m passionate about delivering one-to-one activities and engagement to ensure we meet every resident’s needs, especially creating programmes tailored for those living with dementia. The most rewarding part of my role is building personal connections with residents and their families, which allows me to tailor activities that reflect the interests and preferences of everyone living in the home.

Mark Wren
Mark WrenJob Title:Services ManagerJoined: 2017

I am the Services Manager at Anchor West Hall and have been in this role since the beginning of January 2024, overseeing several departments which include catering, housekeeping, maintenance and activities. Supporting my colleagues and interacting with the residents here are the highlights of my day, and I couldn’t ask for a more picturesque location to work in; the manor house and grounds of West Hall are truly exquisite.

Overseeing the Hospitality and services of the home gives me the opportunity to work collaboratively with each head of department, ensuring that West Hall does not just meet the needs of the residents, but exceeds them every day by providing the level of care and service that our CQC rating of ‘Outstanding’ truly deserves.

Chola Chilufya
Chola ChilufyaJob Title:Oak Lodge - Lodge ManagerJoined: 2006

With over 19 years of dedicated service at Anchor, I am proud to have been part of a passionate team that has achieved consecutive CQC Outstanding ratings. My career has been rooted in a strong commitment to excellence, integrity, and a genuine passion for improving the lives of others.

As Lodge Manager, I focus on creating a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for residents where their wellbeing, dignity, and individual needs are at the heart of everything we do. I believe in building strong, trusting relationships not only with residents and their families, but also with the dedicated team I lead. I strive to nurture a positive culture where colleagues feel valued, empowered, and inspired to deliver exceptional care every day.

With a background in Biomedical Science and formal leadership training, I bring a thoughtful and analytical approach to management. I pride myself on being reliable, ambitious, and deeply motivated by the impact we can have on people's lives, making every day matter for those we care for.
