My mother lived at Silvermere for 4 and a half years and thoroughly enjoyed her time there. She loved the activities, spa, company and food! She was well cared for and as a family, we could not have asked for better care and love for our mother during her last days. For that, we will always be grateful. I highly recommend Silvermere.

My friend stayed at Silvermere after her hip operation, when she needed time and care to recover. First impression couldn't be better, as the assessment was done in a very professional way, asking all the details needed to when she was going to be discharged from hospital.

When we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff who offered us refreshments and took us to the room, where everything was ready together with lovely flowers.

Silvermere is the best care home I have ever seen and the management lead all their teams positively. Visitors are made to feel welcome and can see the happiness and hear laughter there.

The open door policy of the Home Manager means that she, or her deputy, is always available to speak to.

It is good to see management and staff at social occasions, meetings, entertainments and outings (such as last year’s beach trip) joining in to make residents’ lives so enjoyable and include their families/friends.

Everything has been done above and beyond expectations for my parents’ well being and comfort. My father was afforded the dignity and time with my mother that would not have been possible anywhere else in the last few weeks of his life.

The dementia unit is safe and secure for residents without feeling imprisoned or locked away. They are also encouraged to join in the many varied activities and excellent entertainment if they wish and to spend time in the beautiful garden.

My grandad stayed here for a 3 week respite period and I couldn't be happier. The staff were truly wonderful and attentive and he absolutely loved the food there.

Everybody was so caring and patient with his needs and it made me feel so confident that he was getting the best possible care.

Overall Experience
Silvermere has been 'home' for my father for 4 years now. The staff understand him and work around his ways, they are generally very caring, kind people but sometimes simple things are neglected. There is a high turnover of staff and I understand the reasons for this. The food, the ambience, the design of the building, the gardens and entrance are all excellent.

Supper is early at 6pm and it is a long evening for my dad before bedtime. He joins in with quite a few of the activities offered and a timetabled life suits him. He made a few friends in the early days but they all died or moved away. A recent series of falls was very distressing for all but the staff helped us through it, they were visibly concerned for his welfare too. The cost is very high, typical of care homes in the south of England. As my father is as well as he can be, he may be at Silvermere for a long time yet and the cost is a concern. I like the Facebook page as I can see that my dad is joining in.

The food isn't as good as last summer 2017 when I came into respite. I don't always understand the menu - a basic description in brackets would help eg. tarte tatin (upside down apple tart) penne carbonara (pasta with him and cream sauce) etc.

Also, as I watch a lot of sport on TV I would really like Skysport in my room.

This is a really good place to which loved ones can move when they are in their latter years. My mother has early onset dementia, and the care, company and activities provided have been fantastic when compared to being alone at home.

Highly recommend. Fees are high, but you get what you pay for.

My Mum has now had three respite breaks at Silvermere, recovering from various illnesses.
She is actively considering whether she wishes to go there long-term.
I would highly recommend it as a genuinely caring, first-class residential home with committed staff, a lovely environment and service more akin to a hotel than a care home.
On each occasion, they have accommodated my mum without fuss, made her welcome (despite being a temporary resident) and she has found the social life and activities more stimulating than she expected.
Food is great, visitors are welcomed and free tea and cakes are a perk my Mum really appreciates.

It is not cheap - but if this is where my Mum spends her final years I will be very happy!

Overall Experience

I have been extremely impressed with Silvermere from the moment I stepped through the door, looking for a special place for a dear friend. The welcome has always been friendly, warm and the excellent care that my friend is receiving is extended to his visitors. It's the little things, the kindnesses that add up. Remembering who you are when you ring, making the connection between friend and resident, responding swiftly to requests, a seamless communication flow between all members of staff. With all this said, I am not a resident but a very keen observer and I can only comment on my experience. My friend has settled in better than I had ever imagined possible. He's fresh, well dressed, rested and ready for the day when I visit and always looking forward to lunch. It has been a very positive experience and respite care is dovetailing into full residential care. I have high expectations moving forward and it will be hard to maintain such standards but Silvermere has the right team.

My father in law has recently passed in Silvermere Care Home at the age of 92, after 4 months of amazing care and kindness by all the staff at Silvermere. We were so grateful for the excellent care and for the empathic end of life care, supported by the local GP and local hospice. He was able to pass in comfort and in peace - thanks to Silvermere.

In 2014 I gave Silvermere an excellent review. In 2015 the Manager disappeared overnight with no explanation given. The home went downhill rapidly . The activities are excellent but there is more to a care home than this. Some of the staff lack empathy and are rude. I have removed my husband to a better place . I hope with the new manager insitu she can lift Silvermere back to the the status it had but it will take a great deal of effort. For the time being, there are better care homes around.
