Care and staff are excellent but not good at keeping family up to date despite frequent requests. Food and drink all lovely and plenty of it, home-cooked and tasty and good variety. In the last year, they stopped relatives eating with residents in the bistro and have to sit in the dining room and that's
hard and not enough room for more than one person. Very unwilling to allow me to discuss with decision-makers at head office. Feel very uncomfortable and shut out and lost another part of Mum.
Reply from Caroline Cheeseman, Manager at Groveland Park Care HomeThank you for your review of our care home. I am pleased that you find our staff to be excellent and that you enjoy the food and drink on offer. I am sorry that you find when eating the main meal of the day with your loved one in the dining room is hard, I will continue to review this. We welcome families and friends to enjoy sharing this experience with their loved ones in a variety of ways including Bistro meals and drinks in the Bar Bistro, fine dining for special occasions and family gatherings. This has altered over the last year as we continue with our refurbishment programme. We communicate with families and keep them up to date via different methods and during the Resident of The Day reviews. I welcome the opportunity to discuss this to ensure that we get this right for you. I will share this review with the team.

Excellent facility providing very good care. Can find nothing which I am unhappy about after 7 months of my father being in care here. Would recommend home to whoever asked.

My dad first stayed at Groveland Park Care Home in February 2024 for 5 weeks of respite, however, after the 5 weeks he decided he wanted to be a resident as the staff were so caring and he especially felt safe at night, knowing someone was there 24 hours if he needed help with anything. The home was
spotlessly clean. All staff from the laundry up to the manager were so friendly and made Dad's life there happy and very well looked after. Thank you all for everything you did for him.
Reply from Caroline Cheeseman, Manager at Groveland Park Care HomeThank you for your lovely review. Looking after and caring for your dad was a privilege and a pleasure. Knowing that we provide residents and families with peace of mind in a friendly and caring way and allowing them to spend quality time together in the comfort of their home from home is important to us. I will share your review and thanks with the team.

More show home than care home!
My dad lived here for 14 months until he was asked to leave because they no longer accepted insulin-dependent residents. The care quality varies depending on who is working. While he is better off now, the process of relocating a loved one is stressful and unsettling,
something the management doesn't seem to consider. Staff turnover is alarmingly high, and there are never enough staff. I witnessed a man told to wet himself because no one could help him to the toilet.
My dad was assaulted twice in six months by other residents and his personal items, including his wedding and signet rings, went missing. Though the home looks nice, management prioritizes appearance over care. Carers are trained to fold napkins but lack proper skills to care for dementia patients with patience and empathy. There's no specialized dementia care, just a floor for residents with dementia.
Do not put your loved one here thinking it will be their forever home, it probably won't be.
Reply from Caroline Cheeseman, Manager at Groveland Park Care HomeSorry that you are not happy with the service. I am pleased to hear that your dad is now receiving adequate clinical care which was not possible in a residential home with support from community services. We appreciate the process of any resident having to move homes, not something that we often have to do, and done with their best interest in mind. Our staff turnover is comparable to other homes, we ensure we have adequate staffing levels. Our robust safeguarding policy encourages residents, families, visitors and staff to report concerns, which are managed in line with government and local guidelines when reported. Please email me details of any concerns that you have. At times, those living with dementia require additional support, we work with other agencies to ensure a holistic approach. Our Dementia Champions have enhanced training. For many residents, this is their forever home, having lived here for many years, happy with the care and service.

My Dad moved into Groveland in August 2023 and settled well. Initially everything seemed excellent however as my Dad's condition deteriorated due to his dementia it became apparent that this care home is not equipped to deal with dementia patients with the level of care and compassion required.
My
Dad was very settled yet due to his diabetes and the home's inability to offer the level of care required when coupled with dementia, he was served notice to find an alternative care home.
This is not what we expected when we placed our Dad into this care home and shows that they don't really care about the residents. This care home is only interested in its profits, when it actually has to care for its residents it's time to move them on.
Please think very carefully before trusting your loved ones with these people.
Reply from Caroline Cheeseman, Manager at Groveland Park Care HomeI am sorry that you feel that you had to leave this review. We have many residents who are well cared for while living with their dementia, some who have been in the home for many years, they and their families are very pleased with the service and care provided. Unfortunately, at times when clinical issues are coupled with dementia, the clinical safety can become paramount to that resident and is not always be possible to meet those needs in a residential setting even with the support from other professional agencies. Multi-disciplinary decisions are made when we have to ask families to seek an alternative home to manage their loved one's clinical issues, this can be very hard for families to agree with. We consider that resident care, safety and happiness comes above profits which is why, at times, this hard decision must be made. We have many positive reviews from families and residents who have been very happy with the care provided for those living with and without dementia.

Staff are always very warm and welcoming, facilities are excellent with frequent refurbishment and upgrades in rooms and communal areas with very high detail and comfort for residents and their visitors. All residents are known well by name and supported to make their own choices and retain as much
independence and autonomy as is safe for them to do so. Residents are offered regular days out and in-house activities that offer a wide variety of fun, and stimulation. Hair and nails are cared for offering a real pampering experience for those who enjoy this. Birthdays are celebrated for all residents with banners and birthday cakes and much celebration to ensure they have a very special day. I think we would all hope to remain in our own homes and enjoy our freedom for as long as we possibly can, but then when that is no longer safe or manageable, Grovelands would be at the very top of my wish list for myself as well as my loved ones! Many thanks to all the staff for all you do.

Mum has stayed here at Groveland Park a few times for respite and the home has always provided good care, the staff and manager are lovely and always there if you want to speak with them. I would definitely recommend this home to anyone who has a relative or loved one to stay either permanently or respite.
Although I would rather not share this lovely home with others as it may be too full for when Mum needs respite again as it's a little gem.
Thank you all who looked after Mum this November.
Reply from Caroline Cheeseman, Manager at Groveland Park Care HomeThank you for your review which I shall share with the team. Taking my sister to visit our cousin it was wonderful to see how well she had settled in. A lovely little ensuite bedroom with a little attached garden, perfect for her. A very great sense of safety and security and friendship despite her growing 'dementia.' She didn't know who we are till my sister
showed her family photos.
Being able to have a very good meal with her too was an added blessing, and all the staff were friendly and welcoming.

My mum has been at Groveland Park for almost a year - she was quite poorly and underweight when she arrived. She is now in very good health and is back to her normal weight. She has been very happy there and I have nothing but praise for all the staff who care for her so well. She enjoys all the food
which is of a very high quality and she joins in with a lot of activities. Her mind is also much sharper than previously. Highly recommend!

My friend entered Groveland Park in October 2019, suffering from Alzheimer's. We were assured it would be a home for life, providing he didn't require nursing care. Initially, the service was exceptional providing an outstanding level of care, activities and lots of staff interaction. Following Covid
my friend's Alzheimer's/Dementia deteriorated and staff seemed to interact with him less. The staff struggled to maintain his personal care. On agreement, he was moved to the Dementia Unit. There was no plan or communication for settling him in. I witnessed two staff on the dementia unit and at both times they were stressed and under pressure, finding it difficult to deal with the residents' needs. My friend's behaviour deteriorated, Groveland's sent him to hospital and the manager refused to have him back. I requested a report on my friend's needs from the manager to help re-home him, but this was never provided. My friend is in another Care Home, settled and the staff can deal with his personal care.
Reply from Caroline Cheeseman, Manager at Groveland Park Care HomeThank you for your review. I am sorry that you felt that we had not met your individual expectations. For those who are living with dementia, every journey is different and unique. We, like all providers, have to at times make decisions that are hard for all involved after exploring as many other resolutions before matters are sometimes taken out of our hands. I am pleased that your friend has settled well into a home that can meet his specialised needs.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.628)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.628) out of 10 for Groveland Park Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 35 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.628 for Groveland Park Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (303 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (10 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 395 Ratings = 4.628
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Groveland Park Care Home is based on 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11, which has been reached with 32 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
