I can’t thank the manager and her team at Wetherby Manor enough. My father needed palliative care and we really didn’t know what to do. From the moment we walked through the doors we knew we were in the right place. Beautiful flowers inside and throughout the garden, smiling residents, smiling staff,
light bright rooms, people who cared, so much warmth and empathy. We never looked back.
We were looked after as well as my father was. Kindness from everyone makes us feel so welcome. They even let us bring our golden retriever to see my father.
This is a place that helps you relax no matter what the future brings and enjoy those precious moments together.

After two disappointing care homes, Mum moved to Wetherby Manor, and we were very glad she did. She quickly settled in and became part of the family. She was on the dementia floor, which was great. They allowed Mum to be herself and to have fun, and she would often join the residential floor with their
activities (usually listening and dancing to live music). Sadly, Mum recently passed, but the staff couldn't have done any more; they were kind and compassionate towards her and to us, helping us through that sad time.

Mum loved being in Wetherby Manor. She was there for two weeks of respite care and loved everything about it. All the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was lovely and so much of it. The residents were friendly and took her on a tour of the lovely gardens everyday day she was able which made
her stay so enjoyable. Thank you, Wetherby Manor.

Wetherby Manor is by far a cut above the rest. The care from every staff member is second to none. Management shows a genuine interest and a high level of care for all residents. O feel happy that my mother-in-law is well looked after and all her needs are met. There is a culture of respect, and nothing
is too much trouble. Well done - a five-start care facility!

In general the accommodation, inside and out was well designed and kept very clean and tidy. The food, drinks, dining areas, menus and ordering working and well presented by caring staff. Food variable, well cooked and presented.
All staff and management were well-presented and showed care and support
for people staying in the building at all times. All safety and security for people staying in the building work well to control movement in and out of the building including services.

The manager kindly offered to arrange and host a celebration for my parent's 72nd wedding anniversary. A room was set up for us, and a beautiful and generous buffet and a freshly made cake, along with drinks, were all provided.
The family thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.
Many thanks.

The staff on Chester Floor are excellent and their patient with residents under difficulties is so good, would be hard to better.
I don't have a lot to do with management, but they are polite and know my name and ask if everything is ok.
Overall, I would give Wetherby Manor top marks.
Keep up the
good work and a big thank you to everyone there.
If I could find fault it would be lack of things to occupy the residents with dementia.

My dad has been a resident of Wetherby Manor for sixteen months. The staff are absolutely excellent. They have a great relationship with the residents, interact well and always have some activity or show going on to keep residents occupied. What I particularly love about the staff is that they get to
know the residents on a personal level and really understand their needs. Managers are always free and happy to discuss anything.

The people, not the walls, make the City is a saying which is very relevant to care homes. My wife started in Chesters 5 years ago and moved to nursing during the COVID crisis. I knew from the demeanour of the staff who assessed her before admission that she would settle down. She is content and that
is, in the main, down to the way the carers interact with her. It is a pity they spend so much time filing reports.
A major problem in 2022 was the lift being out of action for extended periods because of repeated failure of the control system. The staff coped admirably and stoically with a difficult situation.
The highlight was seeing and hearing residents and relatives alike singing along in the garden to old favourites during the tea party to celebrate the Queen's jubilee.
Reply from Caroline Byron, Manager at Wetherby ManorThank you for taking the time to review Wetherby Manor and we are pleased that you rate our care/support as excellent. Thank you for your lovely feedback regarding our colleagues and our Jubilee celebrations, which I'll pass on. My team spend the majority of their time with our residents but complete the required paperwork as required. Our lift is operational and we ensured that everyone was kept informed when this was not working.

I have been a regular visitor to Wetherby Manor for almost two years and cannot fault it. It always feels clean and looked after. My close friend could no longer live in her own home and I am glad that she chose here to be taken care of. I am fortunately very well but if I require a care home in future
I would choose here in a heartbeat.

Our mum was cared for on Harewood Unit (nursing) at Wetherby Manor for the last 5 months of her life. She was looked after with the greatest kindness and professionalism throughout. The surroundings are lovely, however, it is the staff who made the most positive impact. The staff of all designations
were approachable, diligent and always had a friendly word for Mum and ourselves.
Mum received excellent and highly personalised end of life care. There was abundant evidence of a great team working within the unit and with external professionals (primary care and palliative care) and the communication between Mum and ourselves was good.
Mum's death was gentle and peaceful and we are very grateful to all the staff at Wetherby Manor who supported Mum and us throughout.

My mother is now in her third year at Wetherby Manor and is very contented. She started on Chesters as she does have memory and confusion issues but as her physical needs increased she was transferred to the nursing floor. She has settled well into the new environment and this must be attributed to
the staff all of whom are warm, welcoming, caring and professional. I have found all staff to be approachable and they act promptly on any request I make. I am very happy with the love, care and attention Mum receives at Wetherby Manor. I believe that the handling of the Coronavirus situation has been second to none evidenced by the very low infection rate. All communication has been clear and informative.

The team at Wetherby Manor were very helpful when I was struggling to get my husband back to this area after he was sent to Bradford after being in hospital with Covid. They took away all my anxiety and went to collect him when transport could not be found. My husband has been cared for since then with
skill and compassion for his medical, physical and spiritual needs. The staff have kept me informed at every stage during this very challenging time.

My mother has lived at Wetherby Manor for the past three and a half years. She currently resides on ‘Chesters’, the dementia floor. Throughout her time at Wetherby Manor, she has received nothing but professional and sensitive care and particularly now when she exists in a very confusing world. During
COVID, the home has genuinely been incredible with little or no cases of the virus but, when identified, swift action has been taken to contain it. Communication has been excellent and I honestly would not want Mum to be anywhere else. We do not live locally so knowing that my mother receives the level of care she does is of great comfort.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.697)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.697) out of 10 for Wetherby Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 39 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.697 for Wetherby Manor is calculated as follows: ( (359 Excellents x 5) + (78 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 459 Ratings = 4.697
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wetherby Manor is based on 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15, which has been reached with 38 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Caroline Byron

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2022

Hello, I’m Caroline, the registered manager of Wetherby Manor. I have over 35 years of experience within the care sector, bringing a wealth of knowledge and understanding about the needs of the people we support.

During my time working in the care industry, I have had different roles that have provided me with varied experience and skills. I worked with Marie Curie, specialising in palliative care, I was the Deputy Manager of an Extra Care facility, a care co-ordinator in the community and I was registered manager of a care home in Selby for two years.

Seven years ago, I qualified as a nurse and worked in the elderly care ward at Harrogate District Hospital. Showing compassion to others and supporting them in times of need has always been a calling of mine, demonstrated further by my volunteer roles delivering complementary therapy to those still living at home on the palliative care pathway.

I am one of seven children, and we are all qualified nurses. So some might say the job is in my blood!
Just before I was born, my mother bought a care home which she ran, I grew up within that care home; learning and watching people to support others showing compassion, empathy, and kindness. That foundation has provided me with the life skills to support my passion for care in a professional way. I am very proud of my roots and my working life so far and am delighted to now be the registered manager of such a luxurious residential and nursing home in the heart of Wetherby.

The team at Wetherby Manor are diverse and passionate and I look forward to being able to support and expand their development as far as they want to progress.
I look forward to welcoming you to Wetherby Manor.

Please say hello or stop by for a chat on your visit, my door is always open.

Hello! I’m Alison and I am the administrator at Wetherby Manor.

I have worked in payroll, recruitment and administration roles for 34 years so I have a lot of knowledge about the processes required to execute my role effectively.

I started my career within care in 2017 when I was a care recruiter; firstly, in Children's Services and then into Adult Services, inclusive of management teams for nursing homes, residential homes, supported / independent living, home care and complex care. I was responsible for over 25 clients recruiting the right people for their roles.
I have a diploma in payroll management.

At Wetherby Manor, I will support you and your loved ones with your resident contract, account management and other administrative duties.

I live in Leeds with my husband and three children – a boy 23, and two girls aged 12 and 9.

We own a Caravan on the East Coast which we love spending time at.
