Excellent care and support for my mum. Would have left her with Wetherby Manor if there was space on the dementia ward. Lovely caring staff and environment.

We were welcomed into Wetherby Manor by really cheerful staff who showed us to my husband's room, explained all the equipment and what was going on in the home. Visiting was not a problem at any time. He had a lovely room overlooking the gardens which this time of year were beautiful. The staff were very attentive.

My husband has been here at Wetherby Manor for about 4 years. He has been well cared for. Room clean, tidy and the family has had their photos on the walls. Food has been good, even now my husband is liquid diet, food is good. I have been kept in touch with all that is going on, but entertainment needs to be looked at on the dementia floor.

I can’t thank the manager and her team at Wetherby Manor enough. My father needed palliative care and we really didn’t know what to do. From the moment we walked through the doors we knew we were in the right place. Beautiful flowers inside and throughout the garden, smiling residents, smiling staff, light bright rooms, people who cared, so much warmth and empathy. We never looked back.
We were looked after as well as my father was. Kindness from everyone makes us feel so welcome. They even let us bring our golden retriever to see my father.
This is a place that helps you relax no matter what the future brings and enjoy those precious moments together.

5 star!

After two disappointing care homes, Mum moved to Wetherby Manor, and we were very glad she did. She quickly settled in and became part of the family. She was on the dementia floor, which was great. They allowed Mum to be herself and to have fun, and she would often join the residential floor with their activities (usually listening and dancing to live music). Sadly, Mum recently passed, but the staff couldn't have done any more; they were kind and compassionate towards her and to us, helping us through that sad time.

Mum loved being in Wetherby Manor. She was there for two weeks of respite care and loved everything about it. All the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was lovely and so much of it. The residents were friendly and took her on a tour of the lovely gardens everyday day she was able which made her stay so enjoyable. Thank you, Wetherby Manor.

Wetherby Manor is by far a cut above the rest. The care from every staff member is second to none. Management shows a genuine interest and a high level of care for all residents. O feel happy that my mother-in-law is well looked after and all her needs are met. There is a culture of respect, and nothing is too much trouble. Well done - a five-start care facility!

In general the accommodation, inside and out was well designed and kept very clean and tidy. The food, drinks, dining areas, menus and ordering working and well presented by caring staff. Food variable, well cooked and presented.

All staff and management were well-presented and showed care and support for people staying in the building at all times. All safety and security for people staying in the building work well to control movement in and out of the building including services.

The manager kindly offered to arrange and host a celebration for my parent's 72nd wedding anniversary. A room was set up for us, and a beautiful and generous buffet and a freshly made cake, along with drinks, were all provided.
The family thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.

The staff on Chester Floor are excellent and their patient with residents under difficulties is so good, would be hard to better.
I don't have a lot to do with management, but they are polite and know my name and ask if everything is ok.
Overall, I would give Wetherby Manor top marks.
Keep up the good work and a big thank you to everyone there.

If I could find fault it would be lack of things to occupy the residents with dementia.

My dad has been a resident of Wetherby Manor for sixteen months. The staff are absolutely excellent. They have a great relationship with the residents, interact well and always have some activity or show going on to keep residents occupied. What I particularly love about the staff is that they get to know the residents on a personal level and really understand their needs. Managers are always free and happy to discuss anything.

The people, not the walls, make the City is a saying which is very relevant to care homes. My wife started in Chesters 5 years ago and moved to nursing during the COVID crisis. I knew from the demeanour of the staff who assessed her before admission that she would settle down. She is content and that is, in the main, down to the way the carers interact with her. It is a pity they spend so much time filing reports.
A major problem in 2022 was the lift being out of action for extended periods because of repeated failure of the control system. The staff coped admirably and stoically with a difficult situation.

The highlight was seeing and hearing residents and relatives alike singing along in the garden to old favourites during the tea party to celebrate the Queen's jubilee.

The rooms are in need of decoration and updating. Look rather tired and the carpets rather dirty. The staff are lovely, kind and caring. The public areas are much nicer than the residents' rooms.

Caroline Byron
Caroline ByronJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2022

Hello, I’m Caroline, the registered manager of Wetherby Manor. I have over 35 years of experience within the care sector, bringing a wealth of knowledge and understanding about the needs of the people we support.

During my time working in the care industry, I have had different roles that have provided me with varied experience and skills. I worked with Marie Curie, specialising in palliative care, I was the Deputy Manager of an Extra Care facility, a care co-ordinator in the community and I was registered manager of a care home in Selby for two years.

Seven years ago, I qualified as a nurse and worked in the elderly care ward at Harrogate District Hospital. Showing compassion to others and supporting them in times of need has always been a calling of mine, demonstrated further by my volunteer roles delivering complementary therapy to those still living at home on the palliative care pathway.

I am one of seven children, and we are all qualified nurses. So some might say the job is in my blood!

Just before I was born, my mother bought a care home which she ran, I grew up within that care home; learning and watching people to support others showing compassion, empathy, and kindness. That foundation has provided me with the life skills to support my passion for care in a professional way. I am very proud of my roots and my working life so far and am delighted to now be the registered manager of such a luxurious residential and nursing home in the heart of Wetherby.

The team at Wetherby Manor are diverse and passionate and I look forward to being able to support and expand their development as far as they want to progress.

I look forward to welcoming you to Wetherby Manor.

Please say hello or stop by for a chat on your visit, my door is always open.

If you ever have any questions please do not hesitate to approach me.

Away from work, I love spending time with my three children, my dog and my horses.

Alison Driver

Hello! I’m Alison and I am the administrator at Wetherby Manor.

I have worked in payroll, recruitment and administration roles for 34 years so I have a lot of knowledge about the processes required to execute my role effectively.

I started my career within care in 2017 when I was a care recruiter; firstly, in Children's Services and then into Adult Services, inclusive of management teams for nursing homes, residential homes, supported / independent living, home care and complex care. I was responsible for over 25 clients recruiting the right people for their roles.

I have a diploma in payroll management.

At Wetherby Manor, I will support you and your loved ones with your resident contract, account management and other administrative duties.

I live in Leeds with my husband and three children – a boy 23, and two girls aged 12 and 9.

We own a Caravan on the East Coast which we love spending time at.
