My mother has been at Gracewell since January 2019 and she is very alert for a 96-year-old. I was concerned she wasn't ready to be in a home but she is now not able to care for herself, but I wanted her to receive plenty of stimulation so she didn't stagnate and I have to say she is always busy and seems very happy.

My sister was the last of the three ladies in my family to have been cared for by

Gracewell of Weymouth. Our mother received impeccable care during her 3 1/2 year stay due to dementia. I stayed for a month last autumn for respite care following spinal surgery. Finally, sadly my sister was admitted the day after I left for end of life care. We all received excellent care tailored to our needs but the staff deserve particular praise for caring for my sister. Her final weeks could have been undignified but she was never treated in such a way that she did not feel special. Everyone at Gracewell of Weymouth is lovely.

I am very happy with all the care my mum receives. The home is a happy place and my mum enjoys the company, activities and food. She loves singing and seeing the children that come in as well as the animals that come in especially the dog!

My mum has been here for 5 months now and she is happier and doing more than she did in her own home. It is a fabulous place. We spent our first Xmas day here with mum and my 2 daughters and it was brilliant - a lovely atmosphere and singing in the afternoon - brilliant!!

My aunt has now been at Gracewell for one year and is still receiving the excellent level of care as when she first arrived. She never mixed a lot at home socially or doing activities but has been encouraged by the dedicated staff to take part and sit with other residents. She has settled in very well.

My aunt seems to be well loved by the staff despite her difficulties in communicating with them.
She is treated with respect and kindness and usually looks well dressed and cared for again despite her difficulties in assisting them with personal care.
The environment is very calm and beautifully furnished with space for residents to walk around if able or sit in a spacious lounge with open views.

There are lots of activities organised for residents if they are able and willing to join in.

Overall Experience
The care my mother has received from the carers has been excellent.

My mother has been resident for over a year now after first residing for respite care after a hospital admission.

First impressions are somewhat deceiving however, I was won over by the 5-star luxury look and feel of the home and shown a sample menu with what appeared to be food of the same standard. Unfortunately, the food that is actually served bears no resemblance to the menu, I am not sure how a bowl of sliced tinned peaches can be listed on the menu as "peach melba"! My mother complains continually about the food as do many of the other residents and I have complained to management to no avail.

The food, unfortunately, lets this care home down hugely, as does the management not listening and is certainly not up to the 5-star luxury standard that the home is being advertised under.

The careers who work there though I can find no fault.

I do feel that although it's good to offer residents a choice of what they want etc when suffering from dementia, they need to be directed if it's something that benefits their health. All residents that can't move independently should be put in a high back chair in the lounge and also in the correct position, perhaps with a cushion. To keep clothes cleaner, it would be beneficial to everybody if aprons were always worn at mealtimes.

Mum has been in Gracewell of Weymouth for about a 7 months now and has settled in very well, due mainly to the fact that staff are very attentive and appear to treat residents as though it was one big family. The home offers a very clean, modern facility where the residents are well fed and cared for and encouraged to join in all the activities.

My elderly mother (103) is being very well looked after by very obliging staff. She enjoys the cafe, as a place to go away from the floor she is living on. The whole building is kept spotless from top to bottom, despite of the use it gets. The garden is much appreciated as mum has always had an outdoor life.

Friendly staff, helpful and caring. Excellent level of understanding of dementia. Clean and welcoming.

Quick to respond to any needs and acted immediately on any issues brought to staff's attention. The cost of care is on par with other homes but still out of the reach of many. Peace of mind for permanent carers whilst taking a break. Food excellent. High level of encouragement and enhancement of well-being.

Just occasionally we may need just one week's respite for my dad but at the moment this is not possible with you as your minimum is 4 weeks (luckily you allowed us 3 weeks) but this adds to the expense.

Management is open and accessible, willing to listen to any issues. Staff seem caring but I have noticed that some residents smell due to the fact that I don't think pads are changed frequently enough. Clothing is an issue - not always being returned to the correct resident. The nursing care is excellent and the activities staff engage with the residents. Facilities are excellent too with lounges where private visits can take place. A birthday party was provided for us!

Dad has been a resident of Gracewell for 9 months. In the main, we as a family are very happy with the staff, the care, the food and the service. Because of numerous staff and management changes, I don't think the home has provided a fair run of service and care. But some of the problems have been of its own making. The top management is the main bone of contention, not often present and temporary managers never really taking hold.

It is only now we feel things are starting to take shape and feel better.

This is the second home my father has been in, we moved him due to a substandard service.
The service at Gracewell has been fantastic. The staff at all levels and in all departments are friendly, supportive and professional. The home is beautifully but practically designed to make it feel welcoming, yet suitable for the purpose.
As a family, we hated the thought of my father being in a home but we are not content that he is happy and being well cared for.

There has been a change in management but hopefully, this will bring some stability now.

The ability of the nursing staff down to the helpers summed up the excellence of the home. My wife was keen from the outset that we should be supported or in her case nursed and made payment accordingly. My wife with a few senior district nurses started 'The Macmillan Nursing'. She was therefore very aware of her treatment for lung cancer and was comfortable throughout and passed away aware and comfortable. I and two of our sons were with her.

Our mother has been a resident for 4 months and in that time, we have had no cause for concern about the home. We appreciate the spacious layout, the wide corridors, the large community lounge with picture windows, as well as the smaller lounges for private gatherings. The bedrooms are nicely appointed with private bathroom, the hotel servicing is good. The staff are visible and approachable. The gardens are nicely maintained and it is good to be able to use the school garden too. The coffee shop is an excellent amenity and a very pleasant environment to have lunch with relatives.

I hold my Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management, a diploma in adult nursing, and mentoring qualifications.

I decided to join Anning House because I wanted to be part of a well-respected, larger company that was part of the wider community where I live.

As a Home Manager, it’s important that I have empathy and am able to listen and lead by example. I always want to be a good role model and empower my team and others, treating everyone with respect. I went into nursing to make a difference; this can be a big impact or just the little things that make a difference in someone’s life. I’m still incredibly proud and happy to be able to continue to do this in my career every day.

Although I have a busy role at work, I like to keep busy outside of work too - I love supporting my husband when he’s playing in his band, going to nice restaurants to eat, entertaining family and friends at home, and going to the theatre, especially to see musicals.
