So many activities which they encourage those that can to get involved with both on and off site. Mum almost always in their photos in their newsletter clearly enjoying herself. Would highly recommend this home.

Not ideal. We found dementia care and the understanding of dementia poor and this view was repeated by others who knew Hambleton Grange better than us.
Our 91-year-old mother was left stranded in hospital for 10 days when fit to be discharged. Distressing for her, completely the wrong place for a person
with dementia and a needless waste of public resources and total disregard for NHS - its staff were unimpressed.
Hambleton Grange/Ideal Home management shows no sign of concern - no calls to the hospital or us.
When an Ideal Home manager finally called, she apologised for apologising so much, promising an independent third-party investigation. Now, we've been told it will be an internal investigation.
Also, we found the approach to records very dubious. Once they failed to send our data despite multiple requests - we guessed it was being altered. The second time the data changed between the time when we asked the duty manager to read it to us over the phone, and the time we received a copy.
Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Hambleton GrangeThank you for leaving this review. Please be assured that we take all feedback seriously and view feedback as an opportunity to learn and improve. We are in communication with you directly and we are looking into your concerns.

Mum has been in respite at HAMBLETON Grange for the second time. I cannot fault the home and in particular the staff and manager. They made us feel so welcome and made Mum and all of us feel at home as soon as we walked in. I can't begin to tell you what a difference that makes to us as a family contemplating
moving Mum to a care home on a more permanent basis

I chose to live in the care home. Getting older and less well, it is very helpful to have staff available who are pleasant and supportive. Also, my apartment is pleasant, as is the sitting room. I imagine that it is good for events. My daughter is pleased that I am cared for and that I am happy.

Initial visit to Hambleton Grange, with the excellent receptionist, we were impressed. My husband went in at the end of June for 2 weeks of respite with a view to a long-term stay. His advanced stage of Vascular Parkinson's makes it very difficult for me to manage at home. Within a short time, he developed
sores on his buttocks and no one mentioned this until I helped change him. He saw the district nurse but the condition worsened. There were insufficient staff to help him use a urine bottle when needed. Urine bag often not rinsed out and urine on the bathroom floor. The food seemed quite good. Some care staff were excellent and some very poor and no liaising between management and me. He is now home again.

Relative has settled well into new accommodation. Helped by a calm, supportive atmosphere provided by staff.
They are all kind, patient, and sensitive to individual needs and preferences of the residents.
Standard of personal care provided is high and dignity/privacy maintained as appropriate. Residents
encouraged to mix but can have quiet times in their rooms if desired.
Visitors are made welcome throughout the day and staff are aware of changes in management of care and update relatives as required.
Reply from Terri Kidd, PR Executive at Hambleton GrangeThank you for taking the time to send a review. Our person-centred approach is pivotal to the care we provide, every resident should feel completely at home and catered to wherever possible. This results in such a lovely atmosphere in the home, and you are always welcome to join us whenever you would like!

Prior to 2019, my wife and I lived in a certain location and were delighted to get my wife into Hambleton Grange where we could visit her, having received good reports of service and staff, service and the food is of a high standard. The rooms are clean and the accommodation is of a high standard. The
existing doctor's practice is the same as ours as their records will show. We have been treated well by all staff and management.

their loved ones. Thank you.

My mother became a resident at Hambleton Grange care home in February 2022. It was a relief to me that she was admitted to the home, as she had a number of medical needs. Throughout her time at Hambleton Grange, I was totally satisfied with all aspects of her care. The staff were excellent. Nothing
was too much trouble for them, and they were extremely considerate to both residents and visitors. From the moment I entered the building and was greeted by the front-of-house manager, I knew my mother was in capable hands.

We found that the home had improved greatly since our previous visit. All the staff we met were extremely welcoming, and staff on the top floor went over and above to be helpful. We visited with our daughter and young grandchildren, and the staff were so kind to them - providing drinks, biscuits and
crisps and ensuring a welcoming room to visit our relative. Our visit was very uplifting, and the atmosphere seemed so much more cheerful.

Now the home is open for visits after the pandemic, a huge amount needs to be done to be more welcoming to visitors. On a recent visit we felt like we were a nuisance for visiting. Temperature checking is still inaccurate (reading far too low). We have pointed this out for months. Staff seemed preoccupied,
not friendly, but quite curt.

This was respite care for two weeks. My husband has no short-term memory. When I telephoned the first day, he told me he was lonely and I think he needed help to feel comfortable. One day he did not look great, with unbrushed hair and a very poor shave. My husband told me the food was fine, I could
not get any news about activities.
Reply from Rebekah Steward, Customer Care Team at Hambleton GrangeThank you for taking the time to review Hambleton Grange. Feedback is extremely important to us and we pride ourselves on really making a difference in our residents’ lives. We understand it can be a difficult process moving and we support our residents to become settled in their new environment as quickly as possible, although this will be different for each new resident. Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.588)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.588) out of 10 for Hambleton Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.588 for Hambleton Grange is calculated as follows: ( (195 Excellents x 5) + (67 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 277 Ratings = 4.588
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hambleton Grange is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
