Dad has settled well into Beaufort Grange. He has a lovely ground floor room. He is happy and content. Staff are friendly and helpful. Dad joins in some of the activities, the quizzes and songs of praise afternoons. I have been made to feel welcome and can visit Dad at any time. Dad has a very limited
diet so I cannot comment on the food but the menus look good.

The service in Beaufort Grange is extremely good. Staff are always helpful and willing to provide support. The bedrooms are spacious with adjoining bathrooms. Meals are adequate (most residents would have fairly small appetites). Rooms are well furnished and refreshments are easily available. TV in
all individual rooms. The whole atmosphere is pleasant and staff are invariably willing to help. Individual needs are met without question.

My husband has been in Beaufort Grange for four years.
My main concerns when he arrived was all about his care. I have found his care on the dementia unit to be excellent.
The staff are kind and have a great understanding of dementia.

The quality of care that my father receives is first class, The carers are amazing and fully understand dementia care. They provide a home environment with dignity for my father. Within the dementia unit, there are 6 senior carers who help and guide any new carers that arrive as well as set a great
example. At Christmas made a big effort to create a wonderful festive atmosphere for the whole unit well done.

I am on a restricted diet and liquid limit! Three and a half years after my arrival, and many changes of management, I am at last having interest shown in the preparation of the nutritional value I require in all my meals. It is due to the appointment of a new general manager in September 2017 and this
week a new chef. Residents and staff are hopeful, especially as standards all round are being raised.
Reply from Victoria Thorne, Customer Relationship Manager at Barchester Beaufort GrangeHi Beryl, thank you for your review we are very happy to hear that you feel the standards here at Beaufort Grange have improved. It is important to us that you have the highest standards of care and nutrition and we will always value your feedback to ensure we can address any concerns. I will pass on your great feedback to the team, again many thanks, Beryl.

The building is only 4 years old and purpose built, it is excellent. When I first came here I did not realise how many people here suffer from dementia, so it's not just a care home.
This year there has been a high turnover of top admin staff. It is unsettling. It is very dear here!
The activities
team is unsatisfactory. One person is trying to do the work of three. Staff and assistants do their best, some are exceptionally good.

Food soft sometimes, asked for puree menu - still waiting. No sweet most days, cake or fruit. I bring in sweets.
Reply from Ami Livesey, Divisional Clinical Lead Nurse at Barchester Beaufort GrangeThank you for the feedback, it is good to see that you rate most aspects of our service so well. I apologise that you have not found the activity provision to be of an acceptable standard and I can assure you understand the importance of this in our home. We have recently recruited a new member of staff to our team, so I am confident this will not be an issue going forward. Please feel free to come and see me at any time, but thank you for taking the time to review Beaufort Grange

Find the use of too many agency nurses not suitable when they come on a one-off basis. On the whole food good but needs to be warmer and more vegetables per portion. Although activities good need more for the residents.

I have been a resident since May 2015 following an emergency operation. This newly built care home was one year old then and appeared to be running smoothly, although being on a restricted food diet myself, I was not happy with the food! Since that time there have been losses in staff and management
necessitating greater use of agency. January 2017, however, many changes were made and things are gradually returning to normal due to the recruitment of good staff and management. Hopefully, the food will improve too and it will be more appetising and less repetitive.

The charges for staying at this home are very high and unfortunately the care received does not reflect this. For the past eighteen months there have been issues with management which has resulted in a high turnover of staff and over-reliance on agency staff. Many of the carers who have continued
through this period are excellent and try to do their best for the residents but that level of service can’t be relied upon.

I visited the care home today, (06.04.16) and as always the residents were having a great time but the staff member who really sticks out for me every time I visit is the lady on Activities, she is simply one of the best activity coordinators I have ever seen, not only does she create a great program
for the residents and encourage them all to join her but her utter natural enthusiasm and personality shines through and reflects on all of the residents in Beaufort Grange and simply brings out the best in every single one of them, my friend said today she is the only one that speaks to him normally and they get on like a house on fire. More people like her should be assigned in these positions and she is the best role model I have seen for a while. I hope this recognition finds her well as she deserves it.

Well done, you cheered me up too!
What a great woman!

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.806)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.806) out of 10 for Barchester Beaufort Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 39 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.806 for Barchester Beaufort Grange is calculated as follows: ( (382 Excellents x 5) + (67 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 459 Ratings = 4.806
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Beaufort Grange is based on 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 74 registered maximum number of service users is 14.8, which has been reached with 39 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
