Excellent new purpose-built accommodation. The atmosphere is light and airy and friendly. Lovely garden for all to enjoy. Daily activities for residents to partake in if they wish as well as regular interaction with local primary school which is beneficial to the children as well as the residents.

We have sadly experienced several care homes over the years and have not had a positive experience of them. However, Ancasta Grove has changed that, the staff are all so welcoming and caring and nothing is too much trouble, the home is extremely clean and the food is amazing. They go beyond meeting
my Mum's basic needs of sleeping, eating, washing, dressing, and taking medication. They also look after her mental health by making sure she takes part in activities, carol singing, flower arranging, and lots of other activities. They even organise someone to paint my Mum's nails, which she loves. The home is surrounded by woodland which means there is always wildlife to watch outside. We take the family dog in to see Mum and he loves watching the squirrels. I really can not praise this home enough and all the lovely members of staff, they are a credit to the company.

The rooms and hallways and porch, small dining rooms and lounges are superbly decorated. It has a hotel-like feel, outstanding. The staff, without exception, are kind, caring and efficient, it is traumatic when you can no longer cope with a parent's dementia and behaviours. The staff are reassuring
and knowledgeable. Well done.

My mother enjoyed her 2 weeks of respite care at Ancasta Grove. She felt safe, secure and well looked after. The food was excellent, a good hotel standard. The activities were good but she would have liked more variety but these were reduced because of the Covid pandemic. She would have liked more opportunity
to exercise, a longer exercise class, or the opportunity to go for a walk in the nearby park. She very much appreciated that the staff recognised the problem in the dining room on the first day and opened up another one for the remainder of her stay. Thank you, Ancasta Grove.

The introduction to the home was very informative and detailed with every effort made to accommodate our wishes for a smooth transition from Devon. On arrival with both, all staff were very welcoming and caring to ensure this change was smooth. Since then, the level of care being shown has been exemplary.
One in-law is demanding in care needs and this has been dealt with through a very caring and supportive manner, the other says himself 'five-star'!

As soon as I walked through the doors of this home I knew it would be right for both of my parents. The admission process was very efficient, friendly, and informative. This was all new ground for me and I felt I was dealt with in an excellent manner. Both my parents have settled in to the home very
quickly and I am impressed with the care and attention given by all the staff.

Accommodation is very good. The staff are friendly and efficient. There appears to be a shortage of staff.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Personal Assistant at Ancasta GroveThank you so much for taking the time to submit your review for Ancasta Grove – I was incredibly happy to read your comments and see your excellent scores for the team and facilities. I would also just like to take a moment to reassure you regarding the number of colleagues at the home. We always make sure that we not only a good number of staff to ensure that the care and lifestyle that is delivered is not only safe 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but at Ancasta Grove actually have ratios of colleagues to residents currently far above and beyond some other care homes at around two or three residents per team member (against a ‘standard’ ratio of seven or eight residents to each team member). Thank you again for your feedback and please do let us know if you have any further comments, suggestions or questions and we’ll always be happy to help.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.683)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.683) out of 10 for Ancasta Grove is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.683 for Ancasta Grove is calculated as follows: ( (249 Excellents x 5) + (54 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 322 Ratings = 4.683
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ancasta Grove is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2024

As Home Manager, my role is to deliver consistently high levels of care.

I also think it is important to make sure colleagues feel heard and valued.

I have varied experience and qualifications including a degree in maths and statistics, expertise in financial modelling streams and I’m a registered nurse. As a home manager, I get to put all my skills and knowledge to good use every day.

In my role, you need to be passionate about caring. You also have to be friendly and genuinely enjoy being with people and working as part of a team. Care UK’s values: Caring, Passionate and Teamwork underpin everything we do. Care UK is also an organisation that encourages career growth, and for me, working for the most awarded care home provider is a real career highlight. As author Tia Walker says: “To care for those who once cared for us is one of the highest honours.”

One of my favourite parts of the day is the time I spend with residents, their families and colleagues – and anyone else who pops in for a chat. Everyone has a story, and I love listening and finding out more about people.

In my free time, I adore exploring the seaside and travelling. I also enjoy taking walks and being with my family.
