Devastated with the lack of care, respect, and dignity shown to my grandad during his palliative care. My mum chose this care home because she thought the facilities were good and due to it being new presumed that they would want to get a good reputation hence it would be a good place for my grandfather. I was very apprehensive as I had heard that Tanglewood care homes were not about giving the best care to residents but trying to get good reviews. Unfortunately, I was right. We were asked if we would like to give a review on our first visit. So glad we didn’t, my grandad's care was appalling due to not getting medical assistance when they said they had done, and did not support him at mealtimes. Did not attach a night catheter bag to name just a few of the problems we had. They ought to concentrate on giving care and not trying to push for reviews as soon as you enter the building, very misleading with the offer of tea and cake for visitors. Need to make sure the residents are supported and cared for.

We are extremely disappointed to read yet another review from the family of a service user who stayed at Avocet House some time ago. We are deeply concerned that the concerns were not brought to our attention at the time; however, when they were raised, we made many attempts to respond and to...

Following a fall in my own home and treatment at hospital, my family booked me in for 2 weeks of convalescence and further care at Avocet House. I have been very happy with the care I have received.

Not enough staff to provide adequate care when needing assistance, having to wait for someone to help.

Avocet House Care Home has lovely furnishings, bright rooms, and nice staff. However, there are not quite enough staff members to cater for the needs of a resident who is bedbound.

I have had a very positive experience from my first point of contact at Avocet House. I've felt very happy with the level of care/support my mother has received during her stay. All the staff have always been friendly, helpful, and approachable. The facilities are very good and my mother has enjoyed her meals here, particularly the puddings! We would not hesitate to use Avocet House again in the future if required.

Inadequate care in every respect, prescribed medication, and pain relief not administrated. Poor food quality and choices of food, not seeking medical advice when needed, poor catheter care, lack of respect, certainly not care he deserved! We brought it to the attention of the senior carers our concerns as soon as they arose but nothing was done. We were very saddened as a whole family how my grandad was treated. He was on the second floor of the home with only three other residents, two members of staff caring for them, therefore not overworked. We have since learned from obtaining their records that catheter bags were not emptied regularly, night bags not used, 111 not contacted when they said they had said, it was a further 36 hours (care home notes confirm this). When we reported this to the area manager he said that the two members of staff would be dismissed from their employment which has not happened. Presume we were supposed to believe this and not take it further! Safeguarding informed.

We are saddened that you and another family member have felt the need to leave such disappointing reviews of Avocet House. We understand that relinquishing the care of a loved one to others can be challenging; however, we would like to reiterate that the care of our residents is of paramount...

We couldn't fault Avocet House. The staff were courteous, friendly, and welcoming and the place was clean and warm. The food and facilities were excellent. I would definitely recommend this facility to other people. 5 stars all round!

An excellent care home with a superb caring staff. Facilities are great and residents entertained by an extensive programme. My mother-in-law is happy, well, and has made a number of new friends. Highly recommended.

Shame that there isn’t the option for no stars. Stunning care home facilities but the management is appalling and they did not provide suitable palliative care for my father. I would not recommend this home under any circumstances! So many mistakes, I have a complaint ongoing from June 2021 and they do not respond, no respect for the deceased family nor my father when he was there. One member of staff moaned about other staff, calling them lazy and complained about the residents. There was poor communication within the home and my father's oromorph (pain relief) was left at the chemist for seven days after they were told to administrate it, (I have the district nurse's notes now to prove they knew about it, however, they lied and said they didn’t know) leaving him with just paracetamol. Night catheter bag notes show it was only used three times out of 27 days. He did not even have his bell at end of life and when I did try and use it, it didn’t work - in a brand new care home.

Friendly, efficient service. Care home immaculate and just like being at home. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. Cannot fault - my parents only there for respite care but would definitely use on a more permanent basis if necessary in the future.

My aunt is now living in this wonderful care home. The decor is amazing. But this was not why I chose this place for my aunt. Nothing is too much trouble to make her comfortable and to feel at home. It is the first time I have seen a smile on her face for a long long time when we walked through the doors. The welcome from all the staff was fantastic and genuine. Talking to her and finding out from her what she wanted. The food is excellent, with a good choice every day and any request for something different is no problem at all! I personally also feel so much better knowing that my aunt is being cared for at an amazingly high standard and made to feel safe in her new home. Thank you Avocet!

My mum needed to move to a residential home, from the first-ever phone call I felt my mum was important to the staff at Avocet House. The managers made us welcome and spent a ridiculous amount of their own time with us to make sure they fully understood my mum and her needs. A specialist bed, no problem, change of furniture, no problem, personal items dropped off before her arrival and set out so it was all familiar from the first second? No problem. The day she arrived she was welcomed like royalty, made to feel like family from the first hello to all staff popping in to meet her. I slept well for the first night in months knowing my mum was safe and cared for as part of the Avocet family. I’ve spoken to her this morning and she is full of compliments and says it’s like a hotel! Thank you for welcoming mum and making us sure she is being cared for as we would if we could. I cannot wait to see her get back to herself with you. Thank you for taking the time to care.
