We contacted social services and raised a safe guarding order for my dad who was neglected at Castle Grange in Scarborough. There are staff members that do a great job at caring for residents, so this review isn't to undermine them. But the flaws in management and training of staff meant that my dad didn't have consisted carers that understood his needs. This improved when we complained but his care was only sufficient when certain staff members were present (to whom we are grateful for) Dad was left in the same nappy for over 2 days on multiple occasions. He had poo on his hands when eating and we found bruising round his wrists consistent with being grabbed. He was often found stinking of urine. We as a family had to step in and do his personal care on mulitple occasions. Some weeks we were the only ones that could do it. He is now at another home where the difference is remarkable and highlights further, the inadequacies at CG. Dad is now happy, stimulated and well looked after.

My uncle has been living at Castle Grange since November 2025. From the first visit we were so happy with Castle Grange, Denise showed us round and answered all of our questions and we were impressed with the facilities and felt it was the right place for my uncle. The management team were great in supporting us to move my uncle as he was moving from another county and helped to make it a smooth transition.

We were quite nervous about how my uncle would settle in and if it was the right decision for him. Four months later and it was the best decision we could have made. He is so settled and happy and loves living there. All the staff are great with him and you can see they are all caring and enjoy their jobs. They have lots of activities that he can choose to do if he would like. When we visit all staff are friendly and welcoming and they have loads of things planned that families can get involved in which we like. It's been great for us as a family knowing he is safe and cared for.

Mum has been here over a year now and receives excellent care and attention. Mum looks better than when she was in her own home and her confidence has grown with staff and other residents. All family and friends who visit feel that staff, whatever their role, are happy to help with any queries. All staff are attentive and willing to spend that extra bit of time when interacting with the residents, it really does make a difference.

During my recent visit the staff were very professional and welcoming. The building is very well kept, bright and clean and my relative is well looked after. The atmosphere inside is very calm and this helps keep my relative calm despite having advanced dementia. It is a comfort to know she is very comfortable living at Castle Grange.

When our mum's dementia worsened and we realised we could no longer look after her properly, we arranged for her to move to Castle Grange. We were all anxious about this big change but it has been overwhelmingly positive. Whenever we visit, mum looks well, happy and relaxed. She has made friends and joins in with the daily activities like singing. Castle Grange is welcoming place. The building is bright and modern, there is a garden to walk around, the food is food and, most importantly, everyone who works there is kind and helpful. They all do a fantastic job. I feel like a massive weight has been lifted. It's so reassuring to know that mum is safe, happy and being well looked after.

Dad has been in care for 18mths. Overall our experience has been a good one. Staff are generally caring and seem genuinely fond of my dad & he seems happy. He is very well fed and partakes in a lot of activities. Sometimes basic care could be better EG. Teeth/mouthcare, handwashing after toileting, wiping mouth after eating. Generally I am very happy. Thank you!

Home is modern, clean and has very decent facilities. There are a range of activities. It would be helpful if residents could be encouraged to do the activities as they do not always remember them or appreciate the benefits. Support for language & physical therapy would be helpful at a cost to residents. Staff are very helpful & caring but there are not enough staff which puts pressure on staff & residents. Food is ok but menus could be improved.

My mum was in castle grange for a few years and both her and my family were treated terribly. My mum was holding her medication back then overdosing later. We put safeguarding on castle grange meaning that 2 staff members were supposed to give her meds but they still only had one staff do it and when my mum overdosed again castle grange accused us and put safeguarding on us. We were not allowed out with our mum and were not allowed to be alone with her. The staff wouldn't even take water that we asked for to her room as she was often admitted to hospital with dehydration and we just wanted to know she had water in her room. We were not allowed in her room during safeguarding so for peace of mind and out of love we asked the staff to take her water to her room before we left but 2 hours later and after asking many times the water was still in the canteen. They evicted my mum on her last visit to hospital where she died homeless on 7th July. Horrific care home for our lovely mum.

My sister moved to Castle Grange following a fall and a stay in hospital. The atmosphere in the care home is friendly and welcoming with helpful and supportive staff. It is bright, cheerful and very clean. All the communal spaces are well laid out as is her bedroom which she likes very much. My sister comments on the food which is very good. When she left hospital her mobility was impaired and the experience left her with feelings of confusion. Her stay at Castle Grange has greatly benefitted her both mentally and physically.

We discovered Castle Grange by chance but from the first look round to assess for mum we were impressed. The staff were friendly, helpful & the room available was lovely, the patio doors to her own garden space perfect as she likes quiet time. The transition to the doctors the home uses was quick & we are reassured she has help when needed. Having mum so well cared for has allowed myself & the family to trust she is safe, warm, supported & she is eating well so we can visit & enjoy a cuppa with her.

Castle Grange is purpose built, beautifully furnished and extremely well kept. I couldn't have found a better place for my mother to live.
However it is the staff at all levels - administration, domestic, catering, care and management, who make CG outstanding. Residents are treated with warmth, compassion and respect. The staff know the individuals by name, know their individual needs and foibles, and are ready with a hug when needed.

I wish that second floor residents were able to be included in the various activities more frequently, however appreciate that individual needs in this regard are especially demanding and that this is not always possible to achieve without significant disruption to staffing requirements etc.

My mum has been a resident at Castle Grange care home for almost a year, after a major fall and admission to hospital for surgery. It was a relief to find Castle Grange were able to take care of mum and enable her to have excellent care, after the traumatic time in hospital. The staff are excellent, very caring and hard working and mum has settled in and is comfortable and making friends. The home is well run, spotlessy clean and nothing is too much trouble. Living so far away, it is a weight off my mind knowing that mum is receiving a high quality of care, is safe and content.

My mum who has dementia, has lived at Castle Grange in Scarborough for more than 3 years.
Whilst there appears to be a high staff turnover, the care provided is first rate whilst the patience of the staff appears limitless. They are also always friendly and helpful when I visit.

The 5 stars applies to over a year my mother in law has been living at Castle Grange. She is 94 and has dementia, we are delighted that we found Castle Grange.
Their standard of care is first class;
The food is of high standard
The activities are well organised and on a daily basis
The decor is very tasteful and smart

The cleanliness of the rooms and public areas is again of a high standard

I like the way the staff speak to the residents, always time to listen, patient, kind and caring, likewise with visiting families.

It is such a relief to have found such a wonderful place for my mother-in-law.
