Eothen Homes - Wallsend provides an innovative model of care in which a person's quality of life is considered to be the home's main priority. Staff focus on promoting independence and well-being while delivering relationship-centred support to residents with dementia, their families and friends.

The home is split into several households, each with their own kitchen, dining room and lounge areas, while residents at the home have access to spaces where they can enjoy hobbies and activities.

Staff at the home are not required to wear uniforms and work in their designated households, supporting the people living there.

The home has its own large outdoor areas with a special reminiscence areas and an old-style touring caravan to evoke memories of holidays in the past. Residents can also enjoy a sensory garden with birds, animals and plants.

My mum has Alzheimers and has been at Eothen just over 6 months. I am over the moon with how Mum has settled in. I can't praise the whole Eothen team enough.
We had an extremely difficult start and first few months. The team helped me and my sister manage one of the most difficult periods of our
lives with compassion, patience and some much needed humour. From the start, we have been listened to and been part of decision making.They have excelled in finding what works best for Mum and involving us.
The most wonderful thing is to see Mum now. She has blossomed. Before she came into Eothen she had become almost nocturnal, was asleep most of the time, couldn't manage her personal hygiene and had lost interest in most things. It was extremely distressing.
Now at Eothen, Mum smiles whenever I see her and is always up, clean and dressed. She gives me huge hugs and is the happiest and healthiest I have seen her in years.

My partner has been in Eothen for 14 months since when her dementia and associated issues have progressed. All the staff know her by name even when she is not in their immediate locality or direct care. The residents are able to walk around the whole house (over 2-3 floors) and grounds without the risk
of moving outside the safety and security of the home such that it can take time to locate her! Whilst she is able to partake, I continue to take her to attend her 'hobby' interests which can often mean we return late in the evening (10pm ish) when staff numbers are naturally reduced but this has never caused any issues and she is always greeted with a smile and a chat whilst she has a cup of tea. As her health issues deteriorate, I am being kept fully informed and receiving helpful advice. The activities are varied and all are encouraged to take part (some more successfully than others but always with much help and laughter from the carers involved.)

It's impossible to describe just how amazing Wallsend Eothen Homes is. Everything from the home itself and its relaxed, homely environment to the most incredible caring staff. Everyone in this home, from the manager to the cleaners and chefs, knows the residents and cares about their well-being. After
having a terrible experience before coming to this home, mum is so happy and settled - it's definitely become her second home. I can't recommend this home more highly!

I would not hesitate to recommend Eothen Wallsend to those who have family or friends with dementia. The staff are fantastic and cannot do enough for the residents. The environment doesn't feel in any way like a medical facility, but a home. Lots of activities are arranged for the residents to keep
them as engaged as possible. Just wish we had found the place sooner.

Eothen Homes is fabulous. Our dementia care journey has been nothing but a fight until we were fortunate enough to get my father a place at the haven which is Eothen. Staff are all fabulous, the facilities are brilliant and the grounds are magnificent. My father is very well cared for and I have no
concerns. Not only do the staff care for my father, they nurture us as a family in what is a very difficult time.

Our mam has been living in Eothen Wallsend since July 2023, having moved from another care home. She is so lucky to live here. Her dementia has left her feeling lost and anxious, but there is always someone there with a hug and a smile. The staff are so kind, and infinitely patient and treat her with
dignity and respect. They take time to listen to her needs, even when she is unable to vocalise them. The "household" arrangement keeps her centred and comfortable. The home is clean, the facilities are amazing, and the gardens are immaculately kept. Mam feels at home here. Eothen is the very best home.

Mum lived at Eothen for around 2 years, it is good and the staff are excellent. They were all very kind and made her feel happy and connected. They are all highly skilled and consistently spoke to Mum with humour, respect, care and a sense of compassion.
The facilities are clean and spacious, it has
a really comfortable feel. The building is divided into 'houses' giving a settled family feeling to the residents.
Eothen is safe and the staff have excellent training. They genuinely care about how their residents are feeling and their well-being. The food is great and the puddings are phenomenal! I would highly recommend this fabulous care home.

Since my mum has been at Eothen she has been so well looked after. The staff have such positivity and kindness, both when dealing with my mum, who can be difficult at times, and also with our family, for whom this journey is challenging and unfamiliar. They support us all in so many ways. I like the
fact that within the home itself no doors are locked and the residents can move freely between households. Any time we have concerns or questions, there is always someone to talk to. It is a beautifully designed facility, with residents at its heart.
And the outside space is equally well-designed and beautifully maintained.

The Eothen is a modern, clean well-spaced building. The staff are absolutely fantastic. They work so hard with all the residents. They look after my mum so well, making her feel happy and relaxed. I can't see my mum every day and there's also great rapport between the managers who keep me updated about

My mum came out of hospital this year and into this care home. Initially, my brother and I were worried she might not settle in well. We were delighted to see our mum has settled in well and joins in activities during the day which stimulates her mind. Great professional and caring staff.

My mum has been in this residential dementia care home for a short time but the staff and management have made mum and all of our family very welcome. Mum is very relaxed and full of chat these days which is lovely to see and she is eating well and has put on a little bit of weight, which is great to
see too, she is still happy to come out and have lunch with the family or go for a ride out but is more than happy to return asking the staff what's on the menu for tea and sits chatting to other residents. Long may this last. I'm a happy daughter.

From the very first walk around to every time I visit, I cannot fault the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the whole building both inside and out, it's like walking into a five-star hotel. The staff are engaging with both residents and family/friends, making it a home-from-home environment
- nothing is a problem. They encourage everyone to take part in activities and outings. Keep up all your hard work and dedication; it is really appreciated - I can now take some time out knowing my family member is in safe hands.

Well, where do I start? My mam was here for a year in this amazing 5-star plus holiday home as I called it. Couldn't fault a thing. The best home for miles around. Carers are some of the nicest people I have ever come across. They truly are amazing kind caring and loving people who love and care for
the residents as their own family members. I will never forget what they have done (and I miss them all so much) and how they used to reassure me as it was the hardest thing putting our mam into care.
Thank you so so much you all know who you are. Honestly, you have nothing to worry about leaving your loved ones in this fantastic home-from-home place. Well done to each and every 1 of you!

This home is outstanding. From the management to the caring staff in each house and the entertainment team and the catering staff, they all understand the dementia and individual needs of the residents and offer the best care possible for my mother. They excel in everything they do for the residents.
We simply couldn't ask for anything more and are so blessed and fortunate to have found this place. We look forward to every visit as we are treated like family just as the residents are too. Her needs are met on every level. Putting my mother into a care home was a heart-wrenching decision but I can now say that it was the best thing ever for her. She is 100% safe and most importantly she is happier than she has been for years. Our prayers have been answered.

My mum has been living at Eothen Wallsend since it opened over 8 years ago over which time there have been many changes to her well-being and stages of dementia. Witnessing the devastating effects it can have on your loved one's life can be heartbreaking but I must say that everyone at the home has
been outstanding in their unwavering care, love and support for both mum and us as a family. The staff are loving and like family to us all whilst managing to be professional throughout. Knowing that mum is safe, supported and loved gives me a peace of mind that I could not have dreamed of all those years ago. I am and always will be so grateful to the entire staff team for this.

From our first visit to check out the home, we were impressed. The welcome we received was warm and friendly and the staff all spoke to mam first. The home is immaculate, well maintained and has wide open spaces where residents can move around freely. There was a personal memorabilia display case in
each resident's room and a picture and biography, showing their personalities, likes and dislikes. Each person was a person first and foremost, not simply a person with dementia. The individual rooms are bright and airy, a queen-sized bed and a 'fireplace' and the invitation to bring personal items in, meant it was more like a sitting room. The views out the window are lovely. It was great to see no uniforms, it was homely rather than a care setting. The night staff wear PJ's! The home is immaculately clean and the gardens are fabulous. The care and attention to detail everywhere demonstrates the ethos of the 3 homes, enabling individuality and freedom. Highly recommended.

Our Mam moved into Eothen Walksend 4 weeks ago. Making the decision to move her into a care home was difficult for all the family and we were very anxious about the move. From the first visit to look around the home, we were impressed with everything we saw and all the people we met. Mam has been treated
with so much respect and kindness from all the lovely staff. She is being cared for in every way and the whole family are delighted with how well she has settled in. The home and grounds are beautiful and the activities on offer are excellent. We are very happy with all aspects of her care.

Unfortunately, this is my last review of this wonderful place. Due to my dad's care needs he had to relocate to a nursing care home. If you are considering placing your loved one here do not hesitate one bit. This care home is amazing. You will be placing your loved one into the care of this wonderful
home and fabulous staff. No words can express my gratitude for the respect, care and love they gave to my dad (even though in the end he was an aggressive so-and-so) when caring for him through this awful disease. The residents and staff are one big family and that doesn't end, even when your loved one moves on. From the senior management all the way to the care staff in the houses, they have cared for my dad as one of their own family members. I am eternally grateful. Still to this day, I have regular contact with various staff members and managers who constantly enquire about my dad. You all are amazing. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. You will never be disappointed.

My mam came to live at Eothen Wallsend 5 months ago after several weeks in hospital and a temporary placement in a different care home. I am so relieved to have found the best possible care home environment for her. On first visiting and being shown around by the manager, I was impressed by the relaxed
and attractive surroundings which are designed to be as homely and welcoming. When mam moved in, every member of staff took time to talk (and listen!) and showed a genuine interest in her and her needs. Mam’s moods can be difficult at times but staff are patient and understanding. I’m particularly grateful that mam’s routines are accommodated so that she can stay up late and sleep later- there’s no sense of residents being expected to fall in with a care home system. Their needs are at the heart of everything. Regular activities are provided and everyone is included if they wish to be. I have no hesitation in recommending Eothen where mam is safe, respected and well cared for.
