Well, where do I start? My mam was here for a year in this amazing 5-star plus holiday home as I called it. Couldn't fault a thing. The best home for miles around. Carers are some of the nicest people I have ever come across. They truly are amazing kind caring and loving people who love and care for
the residents as their own family members. I will never forget what they have done (and I miss them all so much) and how they used to reassure me as it was the hardest thing putting our mam into care.
Thank you so so much you all know who you are. Honestly, you have nothing to worry about leaving your loved ones in this fantastic home-from-home place. Well done to each and every 1 of you!

This home is outstanding. From the management to the caring staff in each house and the entertainment team and the catering staff, they all understand the dementia and individual needs of the residents and offer the best care possible for my mother. They excel in everything they do for the residents.
We simply couldn't ask for anything more and are so blessed and fortunate to have found this place. We look forward to every visit as we are treated like family just as the residents are too. Her needs are met on every level. Putting my mother into a care home was a heart-wrenching decision but I can now say that it was the best thing ever for her. She is 100% safe and most importantly she is happier than she has been for years. Our prayers have been answered.

My mum has been living at Eothen Wallsend since it opened over 8 years ago over which time there have been many changes to her well-being and stages of dementia. Witnessing the devastating effects it can have on your loved one's life can be heartbreaking but I must say that everyone at the home has
been outstanding in their unwavering care, love and support for both mum and us as a family. The staff are loving and like family to us all whilst managing to be professional throughout. Knowing that mum is safe, supported and loved gives me a peace of mind that I could not have dreamed of all those years ago. I am and always will be so grateful to the entire staff team for this.

From our first visit to check out the home, we were impressed. The welcome we received was warm and friendly and the staff all spoke to mam first. The home is immaculate, well maintained and has wide open spaces where residents can move around freely. There was a personal memorabilia display case in
each resident's room and a picture and biography, showing their personalities, likes and dislikes. Each person was a person first and foremost, not simply a person with dementia. The individual rooms are bright and airy, a queen-sized bed and a 'fireplace' and the invitation to bring personal items in, meant it was more like a sitting room. The views out the window are lovely. It was great to see no uniforms, it was homely rather than a care setting. The night staff wear PJ's! The home is immaculately clean and the gardens are fabulous. The care and attention to detail everywhere demonstrates the ethos of the 3 homes, enabling individuality and freedom. Highly recommended.

Our Mam moved into Eothen Walksend 4 weeks ago. Making the decision to move her into a care home was difficult for all the family and we were very anxious about the move. From the first visit to look around the home, we were impressed with everything we saw and all the people we met. Mam has been treated
with so much respect and kindness from all the lovely staff. She is being cared for in every way and the whole family are delighted with how well she has settled in. The home and grounds are beautiful and the activities on offer are excellent. We are very happy with all aspects of her care.

Unfortunately, this is my last review of this wonderful place. Due to my dad's care needs he had to relocate to a nursing care home. If you are considering placing your loved one here do not hesitate one bit. This care home is amazing. You will be placing your loved one into the care of this wonderful
home and fabulous staff. No words can express my gratitude for the respect, care and love they gave to my dad (even though in the end he was an aggressive so-and-so) when caring for him through this awful disease. The residents and staff are one big family and that doesn't end, even when your loved one moves on. From the senior management all the way to the care staff in the houses, they have cared for my dad as one of their own family members. I am eternally grateful. Still to this day, I have regular contact with various staff members and managers who constantly enquire about my dad. You all are amazing. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. You will never be disappointed.

My mam came to live at Eothen Wallsend 5 months ago after several weeks in hospital and a temporary placement in a different care home. I am so relieved to have found the best possible care home environment for her. On first visiting and being shown around by the manager, I was impressed by the relaxed
and attractive surroundings which are designed to be as homely and welcoming. When mam moved in, every member of staff took time to talk (and listen!) and showed a genuine interest in her and her needs. Mam’s moods can be difficult at times but staff are patient and understanding. I’m particularly grateful that mam’s routines are accommodated so that she can stay up late and sleep later- there’s no sense of residents being expected to fall in with a care home system. Their needs are at the heart of everything. Regular activities are provided and everyone is included if they wish to be. I have no hesitation in recommending Eothen where mam is safe, respected and well cared for.

My aunty was in another home for a while, and she was very unsettled and I hated going in not knowing what I’d find that day.
I moved my aunty into Eothen on Friday, and on Saturday, when I went in, she said to me “it’s good's to be home“ ; I’ve been in everyday since, it’s just so pleasant visiting
her now.
I honestly can not thank the management and staff enough. My aunty is very happy here, as am I.
I have 100% confidence in every member of the staff, that should she experience any upset, that they will know exactly what to do and say to reassure her that this is her space and she is safe.
Her room is beautiful and very clean, as is the whole home. Lots of different areas/rooms to sit, and it’s surrounded by beautiful gardens .
The home has plenty of car parking space.

Eothen saved mine and Mum's lives. My heart broke to admit defeat after 7 years of caring, to move Mum to a care home. Eothen have been amazing, supporting me, my brother and Mum through a painful transition. Everyone from direct care staff, management, catering, laundry, and maintenance staff, all
of them care and make for a very special home. Over the last 6 months, the patience of the staff means that at last Mum is calm and peaceful. There are many special touches: Allowing Mum to fill her room with her own furniture/possessions has been so important, welcoming visits at all times, night staff wearing pjs, allowing her to move freely, including out to her patio and lovely gardens has been wonderful. I reviewed many homes before finding Eothen: A huge weight lifted from my shoulders when I did. I visit every day and in the many hours I have spent there, I have never seen any of the distressing sights I saw on just 1 visit to other homes in the North East. I cannot recommend this home highly enough.

An exceptional care home for dementia patients. The staff go above and beyond to ensure the residents and families included feel comfortable within Eothen Wallsend. We, as a family, found it hard in this upsetting and difficult time when Dad just moved in, but with the fantastic care and support of
all the management and brilliant staff, we found this transition a lot easier. Thank you. Dad feels he is safe and well looked after and loves the gardens. An environment that is homely and Dad enjoys his friendly chats with staff and residents.

My mam is coming up to three years in Eothen Wallsend. From the very moment she nervously stepped through the front door, to now, the staff have taken every opportunity to make sure she feels safe, happy and content. The building and gardens are immaculate and the food is fantastic; all of this evidences
the genuine commitment of the entire Eothen team to ensure residents feel comfortable. Staff have patience beyond belief and an unmatched sense of humour to deal with situations. They are caring and empathetic in a way that goes far beyond any job description! Needless to say, my mam is very happy living there and that makes life much happier for me.

My mum has been a resident at Eothen since September last year. Mum had a rocky start and found it hard to settle, but with the care and dedication shown to Mum by the staff, she is now settled and happy. I don’t live close enough to visit Mum very often, but knowing she is safe, happy and so well cared
for gives me such peace of mind. Visitors are always made to feel very welcome and it really is like visiting Mum at home. Mum's room is always clean and tidy and the food always looks and smells delicious. Mum loves the gardens, which are kept beautifully, and really enjoys the budgies in the aviary. I will always be so grateful that I found Eothen for Mum. It takes such caring, dedicated and special people to work in care and Eothen staff are certainly that. You all have my very grateful thanks.

Our dearest dad lived at Eothen Wallsend for just over a year. He loved it there and enjoyed a wonderful bird's eye view from Churchill House. Dad said it was his 'paradise' and like living in five star luxury. The staff at Eothen are angels in disguise. They looked after our dad so well, as well as
me, my brother and two sisters. When Dad was just getting too weary to carry on in this world, he was ready to reunite with our mum. Such a sad and tough time, but Eothen staff were incredible to the end.

This care home is absolutely outstanding. My mam has not been 100% for about a week, the fast acting and caring individuals got the doctors straight out, hence Mam now receiving treatment in hospital for a few days (as she needs fluids by a drip). But, she will be returning straight back to the home
to receive outstanding care. The manager takes so much concern in her residents and always is in contact with hospital, asking how Mam is doing. Then, the lovely carers not only look after my mam, they look after me, making sure I'm ok with a lovely chat and even a hug if needed. These guys are worth their weight in gold, absolute super stars.

Following her decline with Alzheimer’s, Mam was admitted to Eothen Wallsend in November 2019. The feelings of guilt were indescribable. However, it was the best decision we could have made. The care is second to none and was not just for Mam, but this support extended to us too. The staff treat us all
as family. They go above and beyond to make sure she is looked after and retain her dignity. The home is welcoming and we are never afraid to approach staff with any concerns. Ultimately, we know Mam is safe, well looked after and happy. We cannot thank the manager and her team enough! I, for one, could not do their job, which takes one special kind of person! Thank you everyone at Eothen Wallsend, you have already gained your angel wings in my eyes!

A warm, safe and friendly home. The staff are kind and very hard working and always go the extra mile. The food is of a very high standard and the layout of the 'houses' based around the kitchen hub is genius. The decor is light and airy and the feeling of calm and warmth is noticeable immediately.

Our relative moved into Wallsend Eothen April 2021. From the minute he moved there the feeling of welcome and caring was palpable not only for our relative but for my siblings and myself too. We negotiated the tricky time of Covid restrictions but our relative remained safe and well throughout his year
there .. sadly passing too soon as he loved being there so much.

I live 300 miles away from the care home in which my mam is a resident. As such it is even more important that myself and the rest of our family have complete peace of mind regarding her care. Eothen Wallsend continually exceeds expectations and the genuinely caring and compassionate staff never fail
to amaze me with their patience, communication skills and love for those in their care. This care home is in another league compared to others I have been to. The entire team should be very proud of their efforts.

My mother has lived in Eothen for a year and a half and I am more than delighted with the care and service provided. I can now sleep peacefully at night knowing that she is safe and so well cared for. The staff are incredible and are always so kind, thoughtful and patient, they always take the time
to update me with changes and developments with my mother. The food always looks delicious and the menu is carefully curated to suit a wide range of preferences and tastes. The chefs prepare freshly baked cakes and treats every afternoon, my mother is in her element! I cant thank all the staff enough- the carers, the receptionists, the gardener, the cleaners, the hair dresser, the kitchen staff, the laundry and the management. They are all angels.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.973)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.973) out of 10 for Eothen Homes is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.973 for Eothen Homes is calculated as follows: ( (325 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 334 Ratings = 4.973
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Eothen Homes is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
