My husband has been a resident in Eden unit for over 21 years, the care he receives is exceptional, he is treated with dignity and respect, the staff are absolute diamonds, they inform me if they have any concerns, the welcome of the home starts from entering the front door, everyone is so friendly,
the manager and reception staff are amazing, nothing is ever a bother if you ever need help with anything, I am a nurse myself and honestly say I couldn't look after my loved ones any better myself and that also included my dad that also was a resident that sadly passed away, I always recommend this care home if anyone needs care for a loved one.

Overall we are very happy with the care my mum has received. Staff are quick up on any health issues and act upon them where necessary whilst keeping us fully informed. Staff are also very friendly and approachable. Our only concern is there sometimes appears to be a shortage of staff, however, the
management have confirmed they are addressing.

My sister has been a resident since February 2023 following a severe stroke, the onset of vascular dementia and pre-existing psychosis.
The care, kindness, professionalism, patience, compassion and personal "touch" shown by all representatives of Gilmerton (Gladstone Unit) has been exemplary. They
really work as "one team" from the administration, nursing and carers through to the manager.
Both myself and my wife are grateful and reassured by their constant vocational dedication.
There is always a place for constructive feedback where improvements could be made.
Communication relating to planned residents and family meetings, future planned events, changes, a feedback loop following suggestions made are all rather "hit and miss," we have felt rather on the back foot with management communications not learning of an event or learning far too late to be able to participate. We live 55 miles from the care home and try to visit twice a month minimum - we need sufficient time to plan to attend a meeting or support a social event and this has not been factored in in the past.
This is not however a major issue, the care and respect for my sister is of course paramount and as already stated this is exemplary.

My mum has settled in well to the home and my experience is that all staff on the ward are friendly, approachable and have my mum's best interests at heart.
I could not be happier with the way we have been treated and feel 'part of the family.'
1 day my dad was unwell and was called to check on him
as he hadn't visited. Staff go above and beyond to deliver excellent service.

My sister-in-law/friend has been in this care home for nearly 3 years. In all of this period I have been enormously impressed with the care and dedication of all staff; carers, support staff, management, cleaners. I cannot visit as often as I would like but I am kept up to date with everything relating
to my friend.

Dad has been more settled since going into the care home, he enjoys the staff and the activities (when he joins in), loves the food and the banter.
I think there could be more communication between staff and family members. Dad was recently admitted into hospital and communication was quite poor.

From the moment you walk in the door, the ambiance is one of welcome and this is backed up by any encounter with members of staff.
My review can only relate to a dementia ward but I can only say that words are not enough to appreciate the care and attention they afforded to my wife .. my heartfelt
thanks to all of them.

My mum was in assisted living, which turned out to be a nightmare - a care package was not given. Decided to put my mum into Gilmerton Care home - it's like night and day. The staff are wonderful, so caring and helpful. Can sleep at night knowing that my mum is happy and safe. Loves eating (food is
good). If she needs anything, the staff are always on call - brilliant.

My mum was admitted with Alzheimer's. On the visit to the care home, I knew this was where I would like her placed. The care my mum has received has been amazing. She always looks well-dressed and fresh. I knew she was quite difficult when first admitted, but the staff were always on hand to look after
her and reassure her when she was anxious. The care she has received is second to none, and couldn't recommend the care home highly enough to anyone in a situation where they need to place a loved one.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.727)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.727) out of 10 for Gilmerton Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 37 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.727 for Gilmerton Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (329 Excellents x 5) + (100 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 439 Ratings = 4.727
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Gilmerton Care Home is based on 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 37 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
