Initialy we felt Goodson Lodge was exellent, as time passed there were a few things we felt could be improved. At times checking in on the patient more frequently would have been helpful, particularly with bed bound patients. I feel on a whole, the staff were obliging and always polite. Our whole experience reflected GL need more staff on each floor. Then GL would be an exellent place to stay.
Thank you very much for taking the time to give us very valuable feedback. We're pleased to hear your initial experience at Goodson Lodge was excellent and thank you feel comfortable to share your views. We understand the importance of frequent check-ins, especially for bed-bound residents, and...
We knew immediately that this was the place for mum. Everyone was friendly from the very first visit, and this has continued. We particularly like that the rooms for those with dementia are on the ground floor, giving ready access to lounges and the lovely gardens. The care team seem to really know the residents and are good at maintaining communication/ The management team have been helpful with ongoing admin and financial arrangements. Everyone contributes to create a homely atmosphere.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience at Goodson Lodge Care Centre. We are delighted to hear that you found that this the right home for mum. Communication and a homely atmosphere is something we pride ourselves on so it is great to hear that this was your...
My mother spent a week of Respite care at Goodson Lodge. She had been rather poorly before she went in and I was amazed how much better she looked after only 2 days! All of the staff were very friendly and made her feel special, and her care was adapted to suit her abilities. She ate well and took part in many of the daily and diverse activities, enjoying the social aspect of the home. The family had to fit our visits in to when she wasn't busy! She is already planning on going back for another 'holiday', possibly for longer.
Thank you for taking the time to write your lovely review. We are so pleased to hear your mother enjoyed her stay at Goodson Lodge and wants to come back for a holiday. We pride ourselves on the level of care we offer and our team is thrilled with the feedback, thank you.
Sadly I cannot recommend this care home. My mother's basic needs were often not met. I have made numerous complaints both to the care home, the trust, care quality commission etc. daily carers are very good. Night time staff and managers are definitely not good. My mother passed away in the home and an inquest is being held due to a fall shortly before her death. Quite frankly they must do better! Those who cared for mum during the day were compassionate and caring. Managers pretty clueless as were some care leads and overnight staff.
I am very sorry to hear about your experience and offer our sincere condolences for your loss. Although we are glad that you found some members of the day team to be compassionate and caring, we take the concerns about other parts of your mother's care very seriously. As you know, we investigated...
My mother has been a resident of this lovely care home for 16 months. The carers are wonderful & I'm delighted with the level of care she receives. She enjoys many of the activities laid on, especially animal visits & anything musical. The menus are varied and tasty. Everything is kept clean. The decor throughout the building is very pleasing & the garden pretty & well-kept. Her 91st birthday was celebrated with a cake & gifts. Knowing she is safe & so well-cared for gives me peace of mind every day.
Thank you for taking the time to write your lovely review. We are so pleased to hear we are able to offer you peace of mind knowing your mother is being well cared for.
They have a shop , cinema, hairdressers never a dull moment

Everything that I could have needed was provided for me during my short period of respite care. I was very impressed by the staff and the very positive, cheerful and friendly atmosphere.

I am an attorney for two wonderful residents of Goodson Lodge. They were both struggling to live independantly and chose to move to Goodson Lodge. The staff are warm and friendly and my clients who I was very fond of, both benefitted hugely from living with such a caring community. There was plenty to do and it provided them with somewhere that would look after them physically and emotionally. Previously the husband had been caring for his wife who had dementia and his health had begun to suffer as a result. Goodson Lodge was able to care for them both despite their very different needs and enable them to remain together as they had been for almost all their lives. I would recommend Goodson Lodge. Unfortunately they have both passed away but staff members attended their funerals even though it was not work time which shows the staff's devotion to their residents.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience at Goodson Lodge. We are delighted to hear that you felt that your clients needs were met so brilliantly. Your feedback , as one of a professional that deals with people at this stage of their lives, means a lot and we...
I was so impressed with the home when I visited to source a short respite stay for my dad and the actual experience far exceeded my expectations. I cannot fault how much one member of staff does to ensure his stay was a success. It took dad a while to settle and was quite anxious and confused with his dementia but the level of care and especially the night staff was exemplary in making him feel at home. He loved the food and the person with his never ending but relevant activities - which mum even enjoyed when she came to visit him. We will most definitely use the services of this home again in the future and recommend to anyone.
Both my parents suffered from Alzheimer's and my mother was physically very frail. With a heavy heart and much guilt my siblings and I took the decision to move them into Goodson Lodge in 2023 when they were in their late 80's. It was the best thing we could have done. Having become very isolated in their own home they had a better social life at Goodson than they'd had for years, both taking part in the musical activities, and enjoying chat and banter with the staff throughout the day. Previously it was a struggle to get a GP appointment but at Goodson the same GP visited weekly and got to know them both. They constantly praised the staff, the rooms, the furniture and the gardens. Having them so happy and well cared for was a massive weight off my and my siblings' shoulders, and we were able to enjoy our visits with them rather than fearing what would we would find when we walked in the door. We are so grateful for the care they received from the Goodson staff in their final year.
My mum moved into Goodson Lodge in October 2024. All the staff are amazing and it's very reassuring that many of the staff are the same staff who looked after an elderly friend from June 2021 to November 2022. Everyone is accommodating, helpful and very welcoming. Mum enjoys all her meals and participates in all the activities. She has made some new friends and is never alone. There is always someone to talk to and be with, she's not lonely anymore since moving into Goodson Lodge. My brother and I have peace of mind that mum is cared for, safe, warm and content in a beautiful care home with compassionate staff.
I can't praise the management and care team at Goodson Lodge highly enough. The home has such a lovely inviting feel and everyone goes out of their way to make the residents and families feel welcome. The transformation in Mum since she moved in approx. 4 weeks ago has been incredible. The staff and management took great care in making sure things were in place when Mum arrived, and it didn't take long before she settled which was such a relief. We now have peace of mind that she is safe and happy and being cared for really well. Goodson is a beautiful space, with lots going on and the fact that we can drop in and out, and join in with the many activities whenever suits us is great. Highly recommended.
The staff are very friendly, providing a high standard of personal care. The premises are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness. Communication with next-of-kin is excellent, always responding positively to questions or requests. There is a wide and varied activities programme to meet the needs and interests of all residents, including many events in which family and friends can participate.
Possible areas for improvement:
- Induction process on day 1 and in early weeks
- A few other aspects
Happy to discuss this further with the management team.
There are always activities going on for those that want to partake and the time is taken to find out about the resident's interests and what they would like to do. The food always looks and smells delicious with a varied menu and plenty of drinks and cakes between meals.
In the 6 weeks that my father has been at Goodson Lodge, he has improved beyond belief both physically and mentally and is happy at Goodson Lodge and for that, we cannot thank the whole team enough.
We would highly recommend this home.
Excellent care at Goodson Lodge, Trowbridge. Wonderful staff and Management. Well organised. Communication is very good with the family. Lovely homely atmosphere. Highly recommended care home in the heart of Wiltshire. Thank you.
My sister has been a resident at Goodson Lodge for 9 months. When we visit her, we are greeted courteously by friendly and cheerful staff. The lodge is always very clean and tidy. The residents' facilities are comfortable and spacious. Their food is wholesome and the menu varied with tea and cake between meals. The staff are very attentive to the residents at all times. A birthday party was arranged for my sister by the staff. This was most appreciated.
The facilities are comfortable and equipped with TV, library and sitting rooms for activities. A full programme of activities is published each week; sometimes they are open to residents' families to attend (e.g. musical evenings).
Meals are varied and our mother gained a stone during the first year - must have been the regular tea and cake!
Staff are always cheerful and helpful, and also alert to changes in residents' care needs.
In February our mother had her 99th birthday; Goodson arranged a birthday treat in the form of a trip to a local garden centre for coffee and cake.
Overall, we'd recommend Goodson to anyone looking for good care for a family member in need.
We feel very lucky to have found Goodson Lodge. The atmosphere is warm, friendly and the facilities are light and modern and always clean and tidy, and there are cosy sitting areas with nice views of the gardens. We are very pleased with the way my mother has settled in (even though it is a difficult decision to move from your own home). Any comments or concerns are always listened to by the care home managers and actioned, and the staff are cheerful and helpful. The weekly activities are incredibly varied and fun, but there is never any pressure to join in. The residents are treated as individuals and the emphasis is on making them feel like it is their own home.
Thank you for your kind words about Goodson Lodge. We're delighted to have your mother with us, and it's wonderful that she has settled in so well. If there is anything else we can do for her, or for your family, please just let us know.
Overall, I am happy with the care my mother receives. Unfortunately, my mother is not happy there, this does not at all reflect on the staff, she would not be happy anywhere! I have always found the staff very polite and helpful, they keep me up to date with my mother's health and welfare needs.
Thank you for your feedback and for taking the time to write us a review. We appreciate your comments and we will continue to do what we can for your mother.
My sister-in-law went into Goodson exactly a year ago after 17 years on her own following my brother’s death. Six months previously, she had broken her femur and so there was no way she could live on her own again. Goodson has been a real experience for her - especially all the activities. She seems willing to try anything and has enjoyed so many different experiences. She was an international athlete and has represented Great Britain. Goodson arranged for her to visit her old athletic club of which she was a founder member. This was very special for her. She has been overwhelmed by the kindness and care she has received. All this means that I know she is safe and cared for in lovely surroundings into which I and my family are made welcome.
What lovely feedback, thank you! We appreciate your kind words. It is a pleasure to have your sister-in-law with us and if there is anything else we can do for her, or for your family, please don't hesitate to ask.
