When mum was at home we made sure that she was clean and wore clean clothes every day. At Harcourt there were times when Mum looked unkempt and we were unsure if her clothes had been changed and she had been washed. We put a complaint into the CQC (GFC-234025) for neglect after a staff member admitted
that they didn't have time to read the care plan causing my mum to have severe infections in her ears. At times we witnessed residents refusing meals and when asked if they would get anything else, later on, we were told that no, that would be it until breakfast. We were always concerned with the staffing levels. It seemed that some staff had a preferred floor that they would want to be on. Some staff didn't have the level of experience to cope with dementia residents. Most of the time we had to come in to make sure that people were doing their jobs as we didn't trust the home and what they were telling us. Question everything they tell you.
Reply from Katie Wisniewski, Marketing Executive at Harcourt GardensThank you for taking the time to review Harcourt Gardens. We understand that you felt it necessary to raise concerns and as you know, we did look into these and took the appropriate action. We are sorry that your time with us was not as you would have wished and appreciate sometimes we get it wrong. Our intention is always to do better and we strive to offer improving support for our residents and their families. Whilst it is disappointing to hear you felt we could have done more, we welcome all feedback as it helps us continue to improve our services. We do hope your Mum is now happily settled in her new home and wish you all well.

Excellent. My mother is happy and settled and is full of praise for every aspect of Harcourt Gardens. She loves her room, the food, the company, that staff. Everything is the quality of a 5 star hotel where residents are put first whatever their needs. We are so pleased and grateful to have found Harcourt
Gardens which has given my mum a new lease of life.

At this very difficult time feel like a weight lifted from mine and my sister's shoulders. Lovely people. Don't think my mum thought places like this exist.

Harcourt Gardens is efficiently run, with cleverly devised IT systems to ensure that residents are attended to as quickly as possible and medications carefully monitored and administered. The staff are friendly and helpful and make residents feel genuinely cared for. The facilities are not only fantastic
for the residents, but family and visitors can also enjoy some of the communal areas with their loved ones, such as the cinema and gin bar! The main consideration is, of course, that your relative is well cared for and is happy, and that is something that Harcourt Gardens definitely provides. We feel very lucky to have found this home, having searched extensively for suitable accommodation for my father upon his discharge from hospital.
Reply from Katie Wisniewski, Marketing Executive at Harcourt GardensThank you so much for your wonderful review. We are delighted that your father is enjoying life at Harcourt Gardens and that you are happy with the care and accommodation provided.
Best wishes,

We moved Mum into Harcourt Gardens Care Home at the beginning of February 2022. We found the care from the staff exceptional. Listening to our concerns about Mum's care and ensuring these were taken into account to make her transition as smooth as possible.
We had a few hiccups with Mum not accepting
the change but the staff were professional and caring and Mum is doing so much better now.
Reply from Katie Wisniewski, Marketing Executive at Harcourt GardensThank you for taking the time to leave such a lovely review. I will pass your kind words on to the team.

It's wonderful to hear that your mum is starting to settle into life at Harcourt Gardens and that our care team are supporting you both through the process.

Harcourt Gardens is a beautiful home with the facilities of a 5 star hotel. My father received first-class care here. He was treated with kindness and respect at all times and the staff worked hard to provide personalised care for him.

Having to make the decision to move my Aunt to a Care Home was a difficult one.
At the time I was researching Homes, Harcourt Gardens was reaching practical completion, but still under construction, that said a site visit and tour of the facilities was arranged and the vision for the Care Home was
put across extremely enthusiastically.
From the point of showing interest to the point where my Aunt moved into Harcourt Gardens (just in time for Christmas), the communication, thoughtfulness and care of the team at Harcourt Gardens was second to none.
Even though my Aunt was their first resident, you are left knowing that each and every resident will receive the same thoroughly professional and care centred service time and again.
The residents rooms, communal areas and outside spaces are exceptional, the facilities on offer are more akin to a 5 star hotel, the levels of care and understanding from the Care team are heartwarming.
Very highly recommended.
Reply from Katie Wisniewski, Marketing Executive at Harcourt GardensThank you for your review and for your personal recommendation. We really appreciate you taking the time to complete this as it really helps other families who are looking for the right care setting.
With our best wishes,

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.308)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.308) out of 10 for Harcourt Gardens is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 39 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.308 for Harcourt Gardens is calculated as follows: ( (276 Excellents x 5) + (93 Goods x 4) + (40 Satisfactorys x 3) + (29 Poors x 2) + (13 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 451 Ratings = 4.308
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Harcourt Gardens is based on 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 115 registered maximum number of service users is 23, which has been reached with 30 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

My favourite part of the day in my role as home manager at Harcourt Gardens is doing my walk arounds and spending time with colleagues and residents. I enjoy being present in the home and seeing the meaningful moments that happen when people feel safe, valued and supported.

I hold a degree and Level 5 qualification in leadership and management, and before joining Harcourt Gardens, I worked as the CEO of a dementia charity. Throughout my career, I have learned the importance of patience, understanding and being non-judgmental. I believe a home manager should be pleasant, positive and genuinely caring, and I bring those values into my role every day.

A proud career highlight for me was creating a 1950s village as part of a dementia-friendly environment, as well as writing a book on care homes. I am equally proud to be part of a team that strives to make life better for others. The most important part of my role is being a voice and advocate for residents and colleagues whenever they need support.

Outside of work I enjoy horse riding, baking and taking care of animals.
