My Mum has been at Haviland House for over 6 years. In this time the home has got better and better and is now of a really high standard. Mum is very well cared for and both the staff and management team are lovely. The only downside to this Home is the huge cost which goes up at an alarming rate each
year.
Reply from Kevin Burke, Director of Care Homes and Dementia Services at Haviland HouseThank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback. We are delighted to hear that your mum has continued to feel well cared for during her time at Haviland House and that you have seen the home go from strength to strength over the years. Your comments about the team and the standard of care mean a great deal and will be shared with everyone.

We understand that the cost of dedicated dementia care is an important consideration for families. We regularly review our fees to ensure they reflect the level of staffing, training and support required to provide safe and personalised care. We appreciate you raising this and are pleased that the overall experience has remained so positive.

Thank you again for your review and for your ongoing trust in us.

We cannot praise Guild Care, Haviland House highly enough for the dementia care they provide for our Aunt, who has been there for the past 18 months.
The staff consistently show kindness, patience and understanding, even when supporting challenging behaviour, always treating our Aunt with dignity and
compassion. Communication with our family has been excellent, and we are always kept informed of any incidents, which gives us great reassurance.
Although Haviland House is a large care home, it feels warm and homely.
A heartfelt thank you to the entire staff team - your dedication, care and compassion do not go unnoticed. We are truly grateful for everything you do for our aunt and our family.

The moment you walk through the door, it feels like home. All the staff are so friendly and helpful. The rooms are really spacious, and all the communal areas are modern and very welcoming. Love the coffee bar as it feels like going out with dad, even if he's not up to actually going out. There is always
some entertainment or activities going on, which is amazing. Finally, there is always cups of tea on hand!

Having looked at several care homes, what a relief to find Haviland House. With five separate households, ensuite rooms, open visiting policy and all staff trained dementia care I knew it was the place for my husband. He has been there two years.

All the staff are friendly and show care, compassion,

patience and respect for each resident as well as for friends and relatives. I am well informed as to his health and well-being either through conversations when I visit, by phone or by email. My husband is sometimes reluctant to be given care but the staff find ways to overcome this.

The food is freshly prepared and delicious including cake each afternoon. Christmas lunch was superb and the coffee lounge downstairs was transformed into a restaurant for residence to eat with their family

A wide range of activities take place either within households or in the Ashmount, a large communal lounge. Friends and relations who visit always comment on the lovely feel of Haviland House.

The Care providing teams do an amazing job on tight budgets. I feel confident that my Father is well looked after in his days of need. The environment can be a little chaotic but it's understandable given the level care needs required for varying residents. It's all handled with dignity and respect
for which I'm forever grateful.

Haviland House represents a high quality home for those living with Dementia. The staff are all caring and in abundance (as all homes Haviland House suffers with shortage of staff from time to time however they seem to be able to sort quality Agency Staff when required) .
The home is clean and tidy
and having seen my wife try various homes for respite prior to her residency I can say Haviland House have set the bar very high. A height many strive to reach but few will actually achieve.

A good standard of care but take advantage of long term patients by charging new ones hundreds of pounds less a week. It's obviously not in the patient's interest to be moved so no option but to pay the higher rate. Aunt has been resident for over 5 years and no complaints with her day to day care.
Reply from Kevin Burke, Director of Care Homes and Dementia Services at Haviland HouseThank you for taking the time to leave a review and we are very pleased to see that you are happy with the standard of care and the overall service at Haviland House.

In line with new build homes operating in the local vicinity, we are offering time limited promotional fees for new residents which has been effective in maintaining occupancy levels.

All fees are subject to increases in order to meet the rising costs of care.

We are committed to provide higher than usual staffing levels and are investing in the latest and most advanced technology in order to offer the very best experience for all who require our support.

My husband has been a resident of Haviland House for nearly three years. While there has been the inevitable decline in his health, he has always received wonderful care. Without exception, all the staff we have met in this time, have been absolutely first class. Myself and other family members when

My family and I would just like to say a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Haviland House for all of the care and compassion you showed to our sister Deb over the past two years. From the very start we knew she was in safe and gentle hands. What we could never have imagined though was the level of
kindness, love, humour, and warmth you would surround her with every day. And in addition, the emotional support extended to us during this difficult time too.
Deb was one of the youngest residents at Havilland House and you never let her illness define her. You saw her for her smile, her laugh, and her spirit and that meant so much to us. More importantly you gave her dignity, friendship and love until the very end and for that we will always be truly grateful.
Please know that you have left an indelible mark on our family's hearts. What you did and continue to do every day is amazing.
With Love and thanks from all of Debs siblings.

My father was resident in Haviland House for 2.5 years once he could no longer live at home due to Alzheimer's and Lewy Body Dementia. Throughout his time at Havilland, Dad received excellent care. He was made to feel comfortable and welcome, and made many friends amongst both fellow residents and staff.
The carers were always attentive and Dad's condition noticeably improved once he was receiving 24/7 care. Many different activities are organised, with a monthly plan sent to resident's relatives, as well as informal activities such as garden walks, watching films etc. A monthly health report is also sent to resident's relatives, and any important events notified by telephone. Security is very good but no impediment to visiting, which is encouraged. The Management were accessible and approachable, and always responded helpfully to any questions.

My Mum has been a resident in Haviland House for 5 weeks and didn't want to leave her own home, she has settled in better than we could have hoped, due to the care, patience and consideration that the staff on Angmering have given her. They take account of her likes and dislikes, they are flexible
to accommodate her daily rhythm.
I live abroad and the staff have ensured that we communicate twice per day.
Mum loves the varied activities, held daily, twice a day. The food is delicious, with home made desserts and cakes.
Haviland House is divided into households giving a homely, sociable feel, with residents of a similar stage in the dementia journey.
I cannot fault the care staff, they have dealt with things in a timely manner, always letting me know and keeping me in the loop. The admin team have also been extremely helpful, from sorting out IT issues for my Mum's video call screen to ordering her Saturday paper, nothing is too much trouble. In short, the Haviland team give 100%.

My wife's grandmother had been in Haviland for 5 years. Throughout this time I watched that as she deteriorated, the care and compassion continued on an upward trajectory. Guild care staff showed the up most respect, care, compassion and the maintenance of dignity out of any care home I have previously
visited. As they cared for my relative in the last days of her life, never as a family have we felt more cared for by a service. Each and every carer, nurse, cleaner, receptionist and manager in that care home should be commended for their hard work and dedication to each and every resident. Thank you Guild Care

My husband's dementia manifests in his challenging behavior. I visited many care homes before finding Haviland House. Many of them were converted Victorian Houses which meant there were often stairs to be negotiated before the residents could access their bedrooms. Some could not provide the support
my husband needed in feeding, personal care, and general looking after. In Haviland House I found a dedicated dementia care home. The building is divided into 5 houses. Each house is a separate unit where there is a spacious corridor with the residents bedrooms, a comfortable lounge and dining room all on the same level. Each house has a secure door so that the residents are safe and secure whatever their level of dementia is. Every month there is a selection of entertainment which is put up in the house so that staff, residents and residents relatives know what is going on. The staff are incredible and Haviland House is now my second home and the staff my extended family.

Haviland house today and for the last year have been exceptional in the care they give to my mother-in-law. They know her needs inside out, she always looks comfortable and happy!
The staff are all so very friendly and easy to approach. They will always inform you monthly of how she is doing and at

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I had reached the point in looking after mum who has dementia where I could no longer safely care for her at home. I researched Care Homes and had already been to Haviland House Day Centre for afternoon tea. Following a lovely tour Mum initially went to stay for a couple of weeks Respite. This became
permanent and Haviland is now her home.
We wanted the best care possible and we have not been disappointed. They have demonstrated that our trust in their care was not misplaced. All the staff, whatever their role, are always friendly with a smile, thoughtful, courteous and above all caring and patient. They are there for their residents but also for their families. Communications are very good and I have been kept involved throughout the year as things have developed. The whole environment is excellent from her own room, common areas and the many activities that take place. I feel that Mum could not be in better hands or in a better place. I have no reservations in recommending Haviland House.
Reply from Kevin Burke, Director of Care Homes and Dementia Services at Haviland HouseThank you so much for your heartfelt review of Haviland House. We are truly honoured that you chose us to care for your mum, and it's wonderful to hear that your trust in our care has been well placed. Communication and creating a welcoming, homely environment are key to our approach, so we're delighted to hear that this has been your experience. We're also pleased that your mum enjoys her room, the common areas and the many activities we offer. Knowing she's in a place where she's well cared for and comfortable is exactly what we strive to achieve. Thank you for your recommendation and kind words. If there's ever anything we can do to further support you or your mum, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Our Mum moved to Haviland House in April 2024 and settled in much more quickly than expected. She has been living with Vascular dementia for around 17 years, but is now at a stage where she needs the support of a care home environment.
She spent a year at another care home in Worthing which was a
complete disaster (so stressful and upsetting) and we are so glad to have now found Haviland House. It is a huge relief to know that she is well looked after, by staff who genuinely care for her wellbeing and treat her as the lovely person she is.
She is eating and drinking better, entertained better (thanks to the regular activities available) and always seems cared for, with washed hair, in clean clothes. The environment on Angmering corridor is welcoming and homely, and also always warm and clean.
Special mention to one member of staff in particular who seems to go out of her way to keep an eye on our Mum, answers the phone in her room, and is so friendly and reassuring to us and our kids when we visit. Thank you!

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.659)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.659) out of 10 for Haviland House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.659 for Haviland House is calculated as follows: ( (250 Excellents x 5) + (35 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 308 Ratings = 4.659
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Haviland House is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 67 registered maximum number of service users is 13.4, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I joined Haviland House as Care Home Manager on November 22. I started my career in Health and Social care in 2012 as an administrator at a nursing home in Brighton. I quickly progressed to Deputy Manager and then to Care Home Manager before moving on to be Registered Manager at an 80-bed Residential and Dementia Home.

I cannot envisage another career with more varied days, challenges and rewards than this role brings and the chance to make a positive change in people’s lives is a real motivator. I really enjoy being a manager with the ability to influence positive change, support a team and drive the highest standards of person-centred care.

The whole team at Haviland House show passion and dedication to providing a high level of care for people living with Dementia. My journey at Haviland House began in 2022 when I joined as a Dementia Support Worker. In August 2023, I had the privilege of taking on the role of Wellbeing and Activities Coordinator, which has been incredibly rewarding.

My primary responsibility as the Wellbeing and Activities Coordinator is to deliver a diverse range of activities aimed at stimulating the mental and physical well-being of our residents.
