My mother in law has received excellent care since her admission last summer.
The staff are all friendly and approachable. She has developed a special relationship with Hannah who delivers excellent care often washing her hair and painting her nails. She really does go above and beyond.
We have been
able to bring several items of furniture from her home which helped her settle into her room.
Her weight is monitored regularly and her diet is supplemented when necessary.
She allowed to exercise freedom of choice as to whether she joins in with the scheduled activities or sit quietly watching tv which she prefers.
Reply from Avallon McCormack, Registered Manager at Haviland HouseThank you very much for your kind feedback. We are delighted to hear that your mother-in-law has received excellent care and settled well since joining Haviland House.
It is especially lovely to hear about the positive relationship she has developed with Hannah. Providing personal care with dignity, kindness and attention to detail is something we value greatly, and your comments will be shared with her and the wider team.
We are also pleased that bringing items from home helped her settle and that her health, nutrition and individual choices continue to be supported and respected.
Thank you again for your trust and for taking the time to share your experience.

We have been so impressed with the care at Haviland House. There are always activities happening when I have visited, and I have joined in with singing and drumming recently! All the facilities are excellent, and it is reassuring to know that my mum is safe and so well cared for. Thank you to all the

Mum has been a resident for two years and from day one we, as a family, have been very impressed with the care that she receives each day. She fitted in well with other residents, which was not only down to her own demeanour at the time, but also how staff carefully and thoughtfully settled her into
her new home. There are always a wide range of activities on offer which Mum continues to enjoy.
As the inevitable decline that dementia brings start to affect Mum I have witnessed how staff encourage in different ways, using their empathy and skills to ensure Mum continues to enjoy her surroundings with the dignity that she deserves.
The care and attention to everyone's needs is outstanding and over the last two years we feel that we have become part of the Haviland House 'family'. Dementia is a journey that impacts the entire family and on many occasions, we have appreciated their personal guidance and pastoral care towards us. You are always greeted with a smile by all members of staff

My Mum has been at Haviland House for over 6 years. In this time the home has got better and better and is now of a really high standard. Mum is very well cared for and both the staff and management team are lovely. The only downside to this Home is the huge cost which goes up at an alarming rate each
year.
Reply from Kevin Burke, Director of Care Homes and Dementia Services at Haviland HouseThank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback. Your comments about the team and the standard of care mean a great deal and will be shared with everyone.

We understand that the cost of dedicated dementia care is an important consideration for families. We regularly review our fees to ensure they reflect the level of staffing, training and support required to provide safe and personalised care. We appreciate you raising this and are pleased that the overall experience has remained so positive.

We cannot praise Guild Care, Haviland House highly enough for the dementia care they provide for our Aunt, who has been there for the past 18 months.
The staff consistently show kindness, patience and understanding, even when supporting challenging behaviour, always treating our Aunt with dignity and
compassion. Communication with our family has been excellent, and we are always kept informed of any incidents, which gives us great reassurance.
Although Haviland House is a large care home, it feels warm and homely.
A heartfelt thank you to the entire staff team - your dedication, care and compassion do not go unnoticed. We are truly grateful for everything you do for our aunt and our family.

The moment you walk through the door, it feels like home. All the staff are so friendly and helpful. The rooms are really spacious, and all the communal areas are modern and very welcoming. Love the coffee bar as it feels like going out with dad, even if he's not up to actually going out. There is always
some entertainment or activities going on, which is amazing. Finally, there is always cups of tea on hand!

Having looked at several care homes, what a relief to find Haviland House. With five separate households, ensuite rooms, open visiting policy and all staff trained dementia care I knew it was the place for my husband. He has been there two years.

All the staff are friendly and show care, compassion,

patience and respect for each resident as well as for friends and relatives. I am well informed as to his health and well-being either through conversations when I visit, by phone or by email. My husband is sometimes reluctant to be given care but the staff find ways to overcome this.

The food is freshly prepared and delicious including cake each afternoon. Christmas lunch was superb and the coffee lounge downstairs was transformed into a restaurant for residence to eat with their family

A wide range of activities take place either within households or in the Ashmount, a large communal lounge. Friends and relations who visit always comment on the lovely feel of Haviland House.

The Care providing teams do an amazing job on tight budgets. I feel confident that my Father is well looked after in his days of need. The environment can be a little chaotic but it's understandable given the level care needs required for varying residents. It's all handled with dignity and respect

Haviland House represents a high quality home for those living with Dementia. The staff are all caring and in abundance (as all homes Haviland House suffers with shortage of staff from time to time however they seem to be able to sort quality Agency Staff when required) .
The home is clean and tidy
and having seen my wife try various homes for respite prior to her residency I can say Haviland House have set the bar very high. A height many strive to reach but few will actually achieve.

A good standard of care but take advantage of long term patients by charging new ones hundreds of pounds less a week. It's obviously not in the patient's interest to be moved so no option but to pay the higher rate. Aunt has been resident for over 5 years and no complaints with her day to day care.
Reply from Kevin Burke, Director of Care Homes and Dementia Services at Haviland HouseThank you for taking the time to leave a review and we are very pleased to see that you are happy with the standard of care and the overall service at Haviland House.

In line with new build homes operating in the local vicinity, we are offering time limited promotional fees for new residents which has been effective in maintaining occupancy levels.

All fees are subject to increases in order to meet the rising costs of care.

We are committed to provide higher than usual staffing levels and are investing in the latest and most advanced technology in order to offer the very best experience for all who require our support.

My family and I would just like to say a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Haviland House for all of the care and compassion you showed to our sister Deb over the past two years. From the very start we knew she was in safe and gentle hands. What we could never have imagined though was the level of
kindness, love, humour, and warmth you would surround her with every day. And in addition, the emotional support extended to us during this difficult time too.
Deb was one of the youngest residents at Havilland House and you never let her illness define her. You saw her for her smile, her laugh, and her spirit and that meant so much to us. More importantly you gave her dignity, friendship and love until the very end and for that we will always be truly grateful.
Please know that you have left an indelible mark on our family's hearts. What you did and continue to do every day is amazing.
With Love and thanks from all of Debs siblings.

My father was resident in Haviland House for 2.5 years once he could no longer live at home due to Alzheimer's and Lewy Body Dementia. Throughout his time at Havilland, Dad received excellent care. He was made to feel comfortable and welcome, and made many friends amongst both fellow residents and staff.
The carers were always attentive and Dad's condition noticeably improved once he was receiving 24/7 care. Many different activities are organised, with a monthly plan sent to resident's relatives, as well as informal activities such as garden walks, watching films etc. A monthly health report is also sent to resident's relatives, and any important events notified by telephone. Security is very good but no impediment to visiting, which is encouraged. The Management were accessible and approachable, and always responded helpfully to any questions.

My Mum has been a resident in Haviland House for 5 weeks and didn't want to leave her own home, she has settled in better than we could have hoped, due to the care, patience and consideration that the staff on Angmering have given her. They take account of her likes and dislikes, they are flexible
to accommodate her daily rhythm.
I live abroad and the staff have ensured that we communicate twice per day.
Mum loves the varied activities, held daily, twice a day. The food is delicious, with home made desserts and cakes.
Haviland House is divided into households giving a homely, sociable feel, with residents of a similar stage in the dementia journey.
I cannot fault the care staff, they have dealt with things in a timely manner, always letting me know and keeping me in the loop. The admin team have also been extremely helpful, from sorting out IT issues for my Mum's video call screen to ordering her Saturday paper, nothing is too much trouble. In short, the Haviland team give 100%.

Review from A A (Relative of Resident) published on 2 April 2025 Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My wife's grandmother had been in Haviland for 5 years. Throughout this time I watched that as she deteriorated, the care and compassion continued on an upward trajectory. Guild care staff showed the up most respect, care, compassion and the maintenance of dignity out of any care home I have previously
visited. As they cared for my relative in the last days of her life, never as a family have we felt more cared for by a service. Each and every carer, nurse, cleaner, receptionist and manager in that care home should be commended for their hard work and dedication to each and every resident. Thank you Guild Care
Reply from Kevin Burke, Director of Care Homes and Dementia Services at Haviland HouseThank you so much for your heartfelt review and for sharing your experience of your wife's grandmother's time at Haviland House. It's incredibly touching to hear how, over five years, you witnessed the compassion and dedication of our team grow even stronger as her needs changed. Providing dignified, person-centred care-especially during the most difficult moments at the end of life-is at the very heart of what we do, and it means the world to us that you and your family felt so supported. Your kind words about every member of our team-from carers and nurses to cleaners, reception staff, and managers-will be shared with them, and I know they will be deeply moved by your gratitude and recognition. Thank you again for your trust, and please accept our deepest condolences. We're honoured to have cared for your loved one.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.700)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.700) out of 10 for Haviland House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.700 for Haviland House is calculated as follows: ( (285 Excellents x 5) + (37 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 343 Ratings = 4.7
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Haviland House is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 67 registered maximum number of service users is 13.4, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Care Home Manager Joined: 2022

I joined Haviland House as Care Home Manager in November 2022, and it immediately felt like the right place to be. My career in Health and Social Care began in 2012, when I started as an administrator in a nursing home in Brighton. From there, I progressed to Deputy Manager, then Care Home Manager, before becoming the Registered Manager of an 80-bed residential and dementia home.

I cannot imagine another career that offers such variety, challenge and reward. Making a positive difference to people’s lives every day is what drives me. I am passionate about supporting a team, influencing positive change and ensuring the highest standards of person-centred care.

At Haviland House, the dedication of the team is exceptional. Every member of staff plays a part in creating a warm and engaging environment for people living with dementia. We focus on helping residents feel fulfilled, connected and well cared for.

Getting to know the people we support, understanding what matters to them and seeing them happy is one of the greatest rewards of this role. Helping someone live a life that feels meaningful to them is something I am incredibly proud to be part of.

Job Title: Deputy Manager - Resources Joined: 2018

I have worked at Haviland House since 2018, and over the years, I have had the privilege of growing with the home and progressing in my career. I began as a Night Carer and worked my way up to my current role as Deputy Manager – Resources.

My role involves overseeing staffing, recruitment and resourcing to make sure we always have a safe and supportive staff?to?resident ratio. Because I have been part of Haviland House for so long, I am often the person colleagues come to when they need information or support, and I am always happy to help.

What I enjoy most is welcoming new residents and getting to know their families. Haviland House feels like one big family, and being part of a team that cares so deeply for our residents is something that means a great deal to me.

Job Title: Deputy Manager - Clinical Lead

I trained as a nurse at Guy’s Hospital in London and have now been qualified for over 40 years. Throughout my career, I have gained a wealth of experience across a variety of care settings, with the past 30 years dedicated to supporting people living with dementia.

I am deeply passionate about dementia care and committed to ensuring that every resident is treated with dignity, compassion and understanding. Building meaningful relationships, getting to know each individual and supporting them to live as comfortably and independently as possible is at the heart of my role.

Nursing is a significant part of my life, and I am proud to come from a family with a strong nursing tradition. As a third-generation nurse, it means a great deal to me that my daughter has continued this legacy as the fourth generation, qualifying in 2014.

I feel incredibly fortunate to work in a profession that is both rewarding and meaningful. Supporting residents to live happy, healthy and fulfilled lives is what motivates me every day.

Job Title: Housekeeping Manager

I began my career by running my own home help business for 20 years, supporting people to live independently in their own homes. Alongside my team, we provided a wide range of services, including preparing meals, organising outings, assisting with appointments and offering day-to-day support tailored to each individual.

Following the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, I transitioned into working within care homes and have found it to be an incredibly rewarding experience. I particularly enjoy spending time with residents, building meaningful relationships and helping to create a warm, homely and welcoming environment for everyone. I am passionate about making a positive difference in people’s lives and take pride in supporting residents to feel comfortable, valued and well cared for each day.

Outside of work, I live with my young son and our ageing dog. My son has a strong interest in wildlife and hopes to travel the world one day, focusing on conservation and protecting the environment.

I have been working at Haviland House for the past two years as a Care Home Administrator, and I thoroughly enjoy my role. Building relationships with residents and their families is a particularly rewarding part of my work, and I value the opportunity to support them each day.

Before joining Haviland House, I worked at Guild Care’s head office in Administration and Governance Services. This experience provided me with a strong foundation of skills and knowledge that I continue to use in my role.

Outside of work, I spent seven years living in New Zealand, which was an incredibly rewarding experience. It gave me the opportunity to travel, meet new people and experience a different way of life—something I will always value.

Job Title: Resident Comfort Coordinator

I’m Buddy, an eight-year-old Labrador with a very calm and patient nature. I’ve been coming to work with my mum my whole life, so being around people feels completely natural to me.

During the COVID pandemic, I spent my days visiting residents who were feeling lonely or isolated, and I did my best to bring comfort just by being there. Ever since, I’ve developed a real appreciation for all the strokes, cuddles and kind words that come my way.

I’m known for my love of tennis balls and for being extremely dedicated when it comes to cleaning up any food that might hit the floor. These days, I enjoy a slower pace of life, and I’m happiest snoozing nearby, keeping people company and getting a good scratch behind the ears.

Job Title: Happiness and Cuddles Assistant

I’m Mabel, Buddy’s little sister and a very enthusiastic two-year-old Cocker Spaniel. I’m still learning from him, but I like to think I bring my own bit of flair to the job.

I adore cuddles, and I’m excellent at rolling over for belly rubs the moment I meet someone new. I’ll happily chase anything that moves and, even though I’m small, I have a surprising talent for helping myself to any snacks that get left within reach.

Full of energy, charm and a little mischief, I love being part of the team, and I do my best to bring a spark of fun wherever I go.
