Mum's stay here has been very nice, although her experience has been limited as far as activities because she is bedbound. I would like to say the care and attention from the staff has been second to none, always friendly and very attentive to my mum's specific level of care needs. Thank you very much.

My father was in the long term care for just under two years suffering from dementia. Dad was a very difficult person and sadly his dementia made him verbally and physically challenging. The management team and all the staff were so supportive our family throughout the whole journey. As one of the family visited Dad every day we got to know the staff and they were always friendly and so compassionate even when Dad was so challenging. He had a great bright room the cleaning team worked tirelessly to keep the standards up. Dad always enjoyed his meals and as he declined the staff and I tried so many different options to get nutrients into dad. The entertainment team tried with dad but he was happy to be in his room with the TV but the team would still pop into see him On a personal note as Dad declined and we spent more time with him the compassion we were shown by all the staff was so touching.as Dad declined we were shown compassion and support the whole time. Thank you all

On behalf of my mum and my self we would like to say a big thank you to to all the staff that dealt with my mum while she was on PAU floor , she was fond of the staff and was very kind to her ,, the staff was fond of ther too , you can ask staff anything they will go and beyond to make sure that she had everything to hand . not just the carers it's the House Keepers aswell they keep the the place going , very clean doesn't have smell like other homes have . and the kitchen staff works hard making sure that dinners are presented lovely and making sure that special requirements to the service users are met to all kind of allergies and Dietarys as well .. i don't think that house keepers and kitchen staff don't get enough credit for there hard work ...

All the staff that we have met have even helpful, friendly and polite.
They go out of their way to help in all aspects.
Nothing is too much for any of them.

The office staff were very helpful when asking them questions as to where we go next with our elderly mums needs.

Our Mum has been in Hawkinge House long term dementia care for a year now. Her care has been amazing from the start. The staff have taken the time to get to know us as a family and have welcomed us into the home with open arms. The time and effort the staff put into looking after all the residents not just our mum is incredible.
Dementia progresses and takes on so many forms and the way the staff have adapted to our mums needs as her dementia has progressed is so touching and heartfelt. We as a family are always informed and updated on anything that may affect our mums health and wellbeing.
There are many activities which take place throughout the week from singing, karaoke, arts and crafts and sensory activities. Whichever activity is taking place the staff will always find a way of including everybody.

Our Dad goes in almost every day to spend time with mum and the staff have become extended family. Thank you all for your kindness it is so appreciated.

Dad has been in long term care on the ground floor for almost nine months. He has a slow form of motor neurone disease and is 85 years old. Since moving into Hawkinge House, the staff have been extremely attentive and caring towards his needs. From the management & admin team, to the nurses, frontline carers, entertainers, cleaners, chefs and maintenance crew, their experience, professionalism and friendliness towards residents, families and friends is second to none. With Dad's condition continuously worsening, the staff have been proactive in liaising with medical professionals and keeping us informed at every step. I am very pleased that Dad was welcomed into Hawkinge House and the transition was seamless. Although Dad cannot communicate like most residents there is always an underlying sense of friendship & community. We appreciate the hard work that goes into maintaining these standards from day to day and would like to thank the entire team for their ongoing efforts.

I have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The standards of hygiene are very high, and I am always kept in touch with how my Uncle is doing. He is not the easiest of residents, but the staff always treat him with respect and dignity. I would highly recommend this home to others and cannot speak highly enough of the staff.

A frail small elderly lady of 98 years old with minimal sight, registered blind. The care staff handed her, full to the brim, large heavy mug of hot tea. A health & safety hazard. Not managing the weight & minimal hand & eye co-ordination. Fear of scalding herself. I was informed she was not eating much. She will eat if given encouragement & minimal prompts & told the cooks do not poison residents. I reiterated, the cooks are not poisoning her. they are well qualified & stringent systems are in place . I gave her a banana, assured her it was fresh ,assisted her with hand & eye co-ordination, she ate it all. Training required. The lounge had 5 residents in who were enjoying communicating with each other & relatives . A Carer came in & switched the TV on. She did not ask any of them for permission. One lady said, "she can switch that off, we don't need that. Another said, I cannot hear you now. Not respecting residents wishes she sat & WATCHED the TV.

Some one has to be their voice.

Lovely home where all the staff were smiley and friendly. Looked after dad well, remembering very quickly his likes and dislikes around meals. Great that mum was able to have meals with him on occasion. I thought the daily activities were wonderful, keeping residents active and mentally stimulated. Wouldn't mind a couple of weeks there myself!

Whenever we visited my brother he was well cared for by cheerful, pleasant staff. Also my husband and I were treated with courtesy by the staff. We know he was safe, warm, well fed and cared for. Prior to going to the care home he lived alone, in a cold home unable to look after himself. He is in the best possible place.

My father respited in Hawkinge House's short-term care unit for 2 weeks.
Whilst he was there the care was excellent, staff were professional and extremely courteous.
Dad enjoyed his stay and wanted to stay longer.

In addition, it was a really simple process to get him accepted and comfortable.

All the care staff was excellent in dealing with my mother during her 4-week stay. Special mention to a certain member of staff whose sunny and friendly disposition was a joy to behold. It was a pleasure to visit as a relative and we were always made to feel welcome from the first point of contact with the receptionist, through all of the care team and the management. The management team, one of them particularly kept us well informed about my mother's progress and it was lovely to see my mother gain strength and ability to return to her own home which is what she wanted after a long spell in hospital. Thank you. It was much appreciated by the family.

Jismy John
Jismy JohnJob Title:Deputy Manager at Short Term Care Unit

It’s been nearly 8 years since I started working here at Hawkinge House. I began my journey as a Registered Nurse, and today, standing as one of the Deputy Managers of the home, I feel both proud and grateful. Being able to care for people every single day has shaped me not just professionally, but personally as well.

Working in care has taught me the true meaning of compassion, patience, and responsibility. Every resident carries a story, and being trusted to support them through some of their most vulnerable moments is a privilege I never take for granted. The challenges have been many, but the rewards- seeing a smile, providing comfort, and making someone feel heard- have always outweighed them.

This field has helped me grow into a stronger person, and I am honoured to be part of a team that makes a real difference in people’s lives. I look forward to continuing this journey and contributing to the quality of care our residents deserve.
