We had an occasion to research a dementia care home to look after a dear friend for whom I have full power of attorney. After much searching and deliberation, we settled on Mayflower Court in Westwood Road.
My sister had many happy years in the original Anchor Care Home on this site.
After three months our friend has gained weight and become much more lucid, even recognising us at times. We are sure this is due to the specialised exceptional care and attention she receives. The staff are well trained and take pride in learning about each individual needs. The Mayflower is light, airy and colourful with large glass windows and plenty of activities available.

We are looking forward to the summer when we can take our friend for a stroll around the beautiful gardens. We are so grateful to know she is safe and secure with all the attention she deserves.

My Mum has just had 4 weeks respite care here we were met by a lady and had a tour of the home all the information we needed was given to us we viewed the room she would be in and met some of the staff who would take care of her. She had her assessment and was able to move in that week. After a long stay in a hospital, she needed help to get back to normal, with the help of all the staff she is now able to return home.

I would recommend Mayflower court to anyone looking care as they helped my mum back to her normal self.

My father has had dementia for a number of years and until now we have coped with care in his own home, he had always been so determined not to have to go to a home that I honored his wish until a crisis point was reached.

He has moved into Mayflower Court and has settled extremely well and is happy. It is a delight to see the improvement in his well-being and happiness. The home is a lovely environment and the staff treat him with such dignity acknowledging the man behind the dementia.

My mother was resident here for 12 days and the staff were excellent in keeping my mother stimulated and involved in all events during her stay. The staff made sure she was introduced to other residents as soon as she arrived. Her room was excellent with adequate room for her to stay if she wanted time to herself. Thanks to all the staff for their attendance while my mother was there.

Mum is very happy here. She says the food is wonderful and the staff friendly and helpful. Spotlessly clean and mum appreciates her morning wash and shower. All in all a great relief to both the sons that she is here and settled. Many thanks to all of the staff.

I moved into Mayflower Court in June. What a fantastic home. On moving in my ability to walk was very minimal, now with help and encouragement, I can walk a little further which is great. The staff have been fantastic in looking after me. My wife moved in with me, so as a couple we are well looked after, with great meals every day. Cheery staff, what more can we ask for.

My father moved into Mayflower Court followed by my mother who loves the home. The staff are very friendly and lovely. The care is fantastic and always willing to help. The home is fun with activities, fish and chips, ice creams which they love, it is great to find a care home which is everything I would want for my parents.

Having cared for my mother for the last eight years, I was very concerned about placing her in a care home. However due to her severe dementia it became impossible to care for her at home. I have been amazed at how well she has settled in and I have absolutely no concerns about the way she is being cared for. All her needs are met and above all she is being treated kindly and with respect. I cannot fault any of the staff here.

Settled in very quickly into the home. She chose her room- she loves the colour scheme, very restful. The staff are very helpful- in her own words she says, "You cannot fault them- there is no pressure." She loves the food and enjoys the company of her friends. The relief in finding a care home where she feels so safe and at home knowing she is taken care of to a very good standard has lifted a great pressure off the family. We visit often- we find the home has a very pleasant atmosphere.

My Mum stayed for a 1 week respite break. It was her first experience of care and She was reluctant for me to organise respite.
I was impressed at how person centred the care is and how much time is taken to find out what the individual's needs and interests are in order to provide the best care and ensure that their interests are catered for. Mum is interested in gardening so a trip was arranged so that the residents could buy plants and then plant them in the garden themselves.
The staff were very caring, had an excellent understanding of the needs of someone with dementia and showed a real interest in my Mum when they spoke to her.
Mayflower Court is more like a hotel than a care home and this made the experience much more enjoyable for my Mum as She felt like she was on holiday. She enjoyed the food and there was a great deal of variety.

My Mum and I highly recommend Mayflower Court and Mum will definitely be popping in to visit her new friends. She is planning another 2 week break.

My sister and I were looking for a care home for our mother and found that Mayflower Court has everything Mum would want or need.
The Customer Relations Manager, has so much care, compassion and understanding about the needs of the elderly and the difficulties and emotions experienced by their families when the time comes for them to relinquish independent living and move into a care home.
Our mother has always been a very private person and fiercely independent but sadly her Dementia means she is unable to continue living on her own.

Mayflower Court will be our choice as it will not only provide all the care and services that Mum needs but the style of accommodation and the attitude of the staff suggests to us that the individual needs and personality traits of each resident are respected and accommodated.

I looked at this place before it was finished and was very impressed. I sent details to the sons and came with them to look again. We spoke to the Customer Relations Manager who gave us all the details without being pushy!

My sister settled in well and is now as happy as she could be. The carers are amazing, except for one who was very brusque with my sister one late afternoon, because my sister had messed herself a bit. The other carers are amazing people. My only other gripe is getting in! Sometimes I buzz and buzz and no reply. Not good in the winter.

My mother (94) went to Mayflower Court 3 weeks ago, initially for respite care, as she has dementia. However, she has settled in and responded so well to the environment and staff, we have decided to make it her home, with the reassurance that she is being cared for well and is happy there.
The staff are cheerful and friendly and we have been made to feel very welcome.
The rooms are bright, very clean and spacious and the decor throughout the building is excellent.
The food is good, with lots of choice and individual needs are catered for.
I am looking forward to taking her into the gardens when the weather is warm enough.

I would highly recommend this care home.

I have been made to feel very welcome and the staff are friendly and helpful. Foods and drinks are offered regularly and appears to be appetising. Residents are invited to take part in activities and socialise which is a lovely option to be able to do. Facilities are excellent, clean and comfortable.

My mother was a resident here for a very short period only as due to her medical conditions she deteriorated very quickly indeed. However we cannot speak too highly of the care she received, nor of the support and kindness shown to us also. Although having lived independently for many years indeed, she adapted well to what she described as her "5 star hotel with care" and loved it at Mayflower Court. We were so impressed at the attention shown to her by ALL members of staff, the care staff quickly established a very close bond with her, and this was very evidently reciprocated by Mum, who would welcome individuals with a beaming smile when they came on duty. The difference when she moved from hospital could not have been more marked. Caring, attentive staff, prepared to spend time communicating with her meaningfully, coping with her deteriorating health with dignity, and going the extra mile. Thanks for making her last days so positive, we could not have chosen better for her.
