I had a very satisfactory respite stay at Penhurst between the 7th of March and the 11th of April 2026, following replacement knee surgery. I find the facilities, food and the staff all excellent. Staff very caring and helpful. Indeed the whole stay and surroundings were all very much fit for purpose for my needs. Based on my experience, I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Penhirst to others with similar needs.

I am delighted with the care my relatives have received over the last month. The care home Manager and all the staff have gone out of their way to help them settle in . I could not ask for more, it feels very homely.

I have found the staff at Penhurst to be nothing other than kind, patient & extremely helpful. I know I can rest assured that my friend is well cared for. They encourage participation in the many activities and the facilities are always bright, immaculately clean, warm & welcoming. They really get to know the residents as people & tailor their approach to best meet the individuals needs. A huge thank you for all your care & patience.

My sister was in your care home for end-of-life care. I really couldn't believe how good everything was - it exceeded our expectations. Of particular note was the kindness, care and compassion of your staff. And this was right across the board from the very top down. Thank you. There was always a smile and greeting even if I was just visiting and walking down the corridor. I am so grateful for all you did for my sister. Lovely atmosphere.

My mother fell ill and the nurse in charge on the day was excellent. She made the correct decision of calling for NHS assistance whilst also listening to my wishes. She was on duty for the next 2 days and kept other staff members updated.

Mum is living with dementia and everyone has been so helpful and responsive to her and our family from the very beginning and through some challenging times. Staff have taken time to get to know her and us. Mum is and has always been very independent and this has been respected and she has been shown great understanding. I have been impressed with the staff in all roles accommodating me to remain involved with mum's care, I visit frequently and there is always a warm welcome. There is plenty of laughter and a real sense that the staff know mum and can meet her needs on a very personal level. The activities team offer a variety of events for mum to enjoy if she chooses, including church services and music /singing, it's lovely to see the animals come into the care home especially visiting dogs - always a hit with mum. The friendly, happy environment and the open door responsive policy of Lynne and her team is welcome. Mum is in a safe, happy place being well looked after, thank you.

I thoroughly recommend Penhurst Gardens Care Home for anyone considering full-time residential care.
All the staff are friendly and professional and go the extra mile to keep my mother comfortable, clean and content. Her room is always immaculate with her personal possessions respected and nicely arranged.
She is offered a wide variety of activities to fill her day and basically generally pampered in a really caring and positive way. She has genuine affection and attachment to all those who look after her.
She eats and sleeps well and is always cosily arranged in her bed whenever I visit.

I couldn't hope for a nicer place. Thank you to everyone at Penhurst.

I have found all staff friendly and courteous - nothing is too much trouble. The food is well prepared and cooked with a very varied menu. Decor of Penhurst Gardens is good and cleaning good. It is useful to be able to make use of the laundry. I haven't felt like making use of the activites but they appear to be very varied.

My dad was placed in to care in January 2026, following a permanent brain injury. I looked at 58 care homes across local counties, created a shortlist, of which Penhurst Gardens was one. As soon as we arrived my family was stunned by the amazing facilities and welcoming staff. Lynne the care home manager is an absolute asset to the home, and really took the time to explain not just the facility but the process before admission and what to expect during settlement and longer term, something other homes did not do. Rather than just focussing on "trying to get a sale", it was clear from the beginning that my dad's wellbeing, and finding the right home, was the focus. As we toured the facility we met other staff, all of whom were extremely polite and professional. The facility itself, wow, it is like a 5 star hotel but whilst still keeping a homely friendly familiar feel. Dad has been there for three weeks now, and we know we definitely made the right choice, cannot recommend it enough.

My mum is unable to communicate so this review is my own experience. It has been an extremely turbulent 12 months for us both, but all of the staff have been wonderful. Mum went into Penhurst Gardens when she knew she was very ill, in fact she only had a few weeks to live. She felt that she was treated well by the staff. Her room was pleasant, clean and well-maintained. The only reason for marking down the review is that there was a data breach where her details were sent to a 3rd party, however this was dealt with very professionally. Food was good, although she could eat very little. As a family, we felt happy that she was in the best place for her final days.

Reply from Lynne Elliott, Home Manager at Penhurst Gardens Care Home

Thank you for taking a moment to leave us a review during this difficult time. It was an honour to have your mum with us and be able to provide her with comfort and care during her final days. I must once again apologise for the data breach; we have since taken measures to ensure such a situation does not occur in the future.

From the moment I stepped through the doors of Penhurst Gardens, I was struck by the warm, friendly, atmosphere. The staff here are not just caregivers; they are genuinely happy, engaged individuals who create a welcoming environment for both residents and visitors alike.

Every visit has been a delight, with a variety of engaging activities from singing and movement classes, to painting sessions (often accompanied by Prosecco), and craft. The residents are happy, and it's clear that they thrive in this vibrant community.

The bistro provides the perfect opportunity for one-to-one time with loved ones, allowing for meaningful interactions away from the care home lounge, yet still within the warmth of the home.

The overall facilities are absolutely excellent. Overall, our experience at Penhurst Gardens has been overwhelmingly positive, and I wholeheartedly recommend it for anyone seeking a supportive and joyful environment for a loved one.

My mother went into Penhurst Gardens for respite care. From the first enquiry to the day she left, staff were brilliant: supportive, kind, thoughtful, caring and efficient. We chose Penhurst Gardens because I had already heard very good comments from friends who had had family members living there. Even so, I had no idea that the experience would be so personalised and so good. Accommodation was attractive, peaceful and clean. Food was superb and tailored to my mother's needs. Staff were amazing at getting to know my mother without being intrusive and then making sure she had the environment she needed. Also, the setting of the care home is lovely: peaceful and surrounded by green space but also close to the centre of Chipping Norton. In all, a superb experience. Thank you so much!
