Penhurst staff are caring and friendly people. It is important to understand that residents are individuals with their own specific needs and objectives, which seem to be part of the Penhurst culture, thank goodness.
Residents get bored, so popping in and chatting for five mins helps relieves the
boredom.

The initial enquiry and first visit to Penhurst Gardens were warm and welcoming. All conversations were conducted sensitively and professionally, with every small detail taken into consideration. The respite care received took into account all of Dad's specific needs, and as visitors, we were shown
the same kindness and respect as he was.

Penhurst Gardens Care Home is a wonderful home, very welcoming when entering and showed very professional procedures to ensure the safety of my grandmother's health (making sure everyone is healthy to enter), the rooms are large and full of light, her room is facing the garden which is grans favourite
place. All the staff look after my grandmother and are very attentive to her needs. The food is fantastic and they will cater to her preferences. I am very pleased with the care for my grandmother she is very happy.

I arrived as a wreck, (no fault of the hospital) at Penhurst Gardens in January 2021. At the end of July I departed as a functioning citizen. My sojourn was a thoroughly happy one and it was pleasant to make some new friends. conversations here were always therapeutic.

I have been associated with Penhurst Garden Care Home from shortly after it opened, first as someone who visited a close friend who was a resident there and subsequently as a volunteer. I have never had anything but the highest regard for the home. From the moment you arrive at reception, the atmosphere
is welcoming. The residents are treated with compassion and dignity, the rooms and facilities are excellent and it is hard to find fault. It is a happy place to be. If the time comes when I require full times care I cannot think of anywhere I would prefer to be than Penhurst Gardens care Home.

It was a very difficult decision to move my mum to a nursing home, but I couldn't have chosen a better place for her to be. All the staff have been so kind and considerate to my and my mum's needs. I am reassured that she is safe and well cared for. There are regular activities and lots of stimulation
on Mum's arrival; the whole team provided a comprehensive meet and greet, so she felt very welcome.

I have a very reassuring experience in arranging the transfer of my mother to Penhurst Gardens Care Home. There were a number of complicating factors as my mother had to be brought from a hospital 150 miles away. Penhurst were very clear, flexible and supportive and made what was an emotionally intense
set of decisions far easier and less stressful. Her arrival at the care home could have not been better.

I write this review because I know how impossibly hard and upsetting it can be to see your loved one living somewhere other than the home they have known. I want to assure and re-assure potential new residents and their family members of the solid and kindest care they will receive at Penhurst Care
Home at Chipping Norton. The Home's Manager is the very kindest lady - the team and residents and their families are most fortunate.

Mum was warmly welcomed back to Penhurst Gardens (for the 3rd time) for respite care after a hip operation. She has a very pleasant room overlooking the enclosed patio area, the food has been good and she has joined in with a number of various activities on offer. The caring staff have encouraged Mum
to get back onto her feet and gain confidence walking again.

It was lovely to deal with the member of staff from start to finish with Mum when we first met her. Penhurst Gardens is a lovely care home, beautifully decorated and Mum was given a gorgeous room, overlooking the courtyard - this was considered as they knew Mum loves her garden and they put a lovely
vase of flowers in her room on arrival. These points very, very much appreciated.
Mum was assessed before having a 2.5 week respite care whilst my husband and I went on holiday. Without a doubt, we had a very much needed restful and relaxing holiday, knowing that Mum was safe in Penhurst Gardens.
When I went to pick Mum up from the stay, she was happy to see me and seemed to have had a good time - the staff were very complimentary and said they would miss her.
I think that the stay was important for us to have a break. Mum has come back home and is talking a bit clearer than when she went in which is good.
The staff at Penhurst Gardens were very caring with Mum.

My wife was taken into care with advanced stage of Alzheimer's. Whilst in the care of Penhurst Gardens Care Home she received exceptional care, love, compassion and attention. I've been very impressed by the care, kindness and flexibility of the staff at Penhurst Gardens Care Home. Penhurst has a wonderful, friendly atmosphere and a welcoming layout. The leisure and wellness staff have been great, providing varied and stimulating activities for residents while also ensuring
relatives are kept in touch. I was worried about how my father would settle in, but thanks to Penhurst staff, he has rapidly made friends, enjoys all the sociable activities and the excellent meals and feels very at home. Highly recommended.

A very good home, but a few areas seemed to have slipped during Covid-19. Lack of suitable activities for male residents has resulted in some very bored residents. It has been helpful to continue weekly visits but look forward to more open visiting and outings for residents. It would be helpful to have
more feedback as to what is happening inside the care home. A monthly newssheet from the manager - I feel very left out of anything going on in the care home.
Reply from Rachael Startin, Sales & Marketing Manager at Penhurst Gardens Care HomeThank you for taking the time to write your review especially during the difficult circumstances that we are all faced with. We are delighted to confirm that a new home manager joined in December and she has arranged for regular updates with families using a variety of methods. We have also welcomed some new members to the team who work hard to provide a variety of entertainment for all of the residents within our home – the cocktail evening held on Friday was a huge success. Whilst we understand it is frustrating for families who cannot see their loved one as often as they would like, I want to re-assure you that we are doing everything we can to keep our residents in touch with their families whilst following government guidelines to ensure our residents and staff are safe.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.642)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.642) out of 10 for Penhurst Gardens Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.642 for Penhurst Gardens Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (184 Excellents x 5) + (70 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 265 Ratings = 4.642
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Penhurst Gardens Care Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 registered maximum number of service users is 11.6, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I hope to continue the growth of the supportive, cheerful and exciting energy that Penhurst Gardens already has. My focus is always on ensuring that our residents are supported to try new things and progress with existing passions.
