My mother unfortunately suffered from terminal cancer and required more care than we could provide at home, hence we looked for a home that offered nursing care. On visiting Penhurst we were delighted to see that not only did it offer 24/7 nursing care but also has modern, bright and well-appointed...
The staff are however what makes the home so good, they are caring and professional but most importantly friendly, they got to know Mum and her them, making those awkward moments when accepting personal care easier. Mum had her favourites as you would expect, and she really enjoyed hearing about their lives and families. The nursing staff were also very attentive and ensured Mum was comfortable throughout.
It's difficult to know what to put into a review of a nursing home for your mum, I think the only thing I can say is that if we were choosing again we would again choose Penhurst Gardens.

I am very proud of our team, who I know will be delighted when I share this feedback with them. It is a big and hard decision for people when choosing a care home, and a real honour to be entrusted with caring for someone's relative. Once again thank you so much for your kind words.

Our mother recently moved into your home, following a series of falls & a hospital stay after breaking her hip. She has always been a proud, independent lady & has struggled over the last few years to admit to health issues and allow anyone to help her. It has been a difficult time for everyone. It is so good that the team take the time to help & care for her. They are buoyant & kind. We are so grateful that she has this care around her & we as a family have good contact with the management team, who are patient (with us!) & supportive. Thank you.
Thank you for taking a moment to leave such a kind review, and it is excellent to hear that you are happy with the standard of your mother's care. We are always keen to ensure we provide exceptional support not only for our residents but their loved ones too, so I am glad to hear you feel this is the case.

Most of us have to make the decision of where, when, how much, and what sort of care is needed. For me, it was respite care for my father, a 96-year-old academic living on his own at home. Supported by my sister daily and myself, plus a nurse once a week, was inadequate. The loosing of his memory and general decline meant we needed to find something suited to his needs, three week's respite. Viewing Penhurst was most reassuring, followed by a casual lunch with my father, enabled us to see how he might fit in. Decision made, he started his respite, not easily as his confusion became an anxiety. The excellent care, commitment and heartfelt kindness of the staff made Dad 'safe' and in time eased him into their community. His medical needs improved and his general well-being, put him in good stead, ready to go home. Further respite care is booked with the hope that when ready he can leave his beloved home and become residential at Penhurst.
We understand how difficult it can be to decide on a care home for a loved one, so I am overjoyed to hear you are happy with the care provided at Penhurst Gardens. It is always a pleasure to have your father with us for some rest and relaxation.

This is a lovely, caring home with professional carers and a sense of calm. We are reassured that Mum is well looked after by kind people in a beautiful environment.
Thank you for your lovely comments, and recognition that we go the extra mile in the welcome and care for our residents and their families. It's super feedback that the whole staff team really appreciate, and they want you to have that peace of mind that your mum is safe in our care.

Helping Mum find a new home, where her needs could be supported, felt like an overwhelming task. From the moment of Mum’s arrival at Penhurst Gardens we were made to feel welcome. Each individual resident is treated with skill, kindness, sensitivity and respect and this ethos prevails throughout. As a relative, I have been supported in discovering how instead of struggling to ‘manage’ Mum’s Alzheimer's, I can relax and enjoy precious time with her instead. We celebrated New Year’s Eve together at the visitors and residents’ bar with great enjoyment. This is an exceptional care home where families can retain the sense of their own family, as well as being at the heart of a larger, caring ‘family’. Meals are first class and there is an imaginative programme of daily activities. I have watched my mum recover from an awful fall and succeed in regaining her self-confidence, as a result of the care she has received. We can’t believe that we have been lucky enough to find such a gem!

I could not have imagined so much kindness and care, and a feeling of living life to the full. Staff not only look after the residents but include their families and visitors too. The Penhurst staff take things to a totally different level. They have amazing teams right across the board and they really do know their residents and treat each of them as individuals and with the respect they deserve. For the first time in a very long while I am actually sleeping at night knowing that my mother is getting better care than any of us imagined possible. The building is fantastic and beautifully maintained and the food is hotel standard. I feel like I can actually relax, knowing that all involved have my mother's best interest at the heart of all they do. Management made the move a seamless process and was so helpful and welcoming. Top class.
Wow what an incredible review and thank you so much! The team will be absolutely delighted with this feedback and more so to hear how happy Mum is in the home and that our care has given you peace of mind which is amazing to us.
My husband is cared for very well. All his needs are met promptly. All staff, nurses and carers are very friendly and cheerful. I cannot fault how he is being cared for, and he is happy.

This home is a breath of fresh air. Offered tea on arrival, every staff member so far is friendly and food on another level! Setting superb. My gran died last year after 2 years in another home, this is day and night compared to there.

The care and attention given to my mother-in-law is superb and given her a new lease of life. Although she doesn't get many visitors, she is encouraged to mix and make friends with other residents and I always leave her in a very cheerful state of mind. Her personal tragedy of losing a 2nd daughter in the last couple of years was handled with great skill and the benefits of this are still apparent, improving every month. Thank you Penhurst, you've taken a great weight off my mind!
It's wonderful that you have taken the time to acknowledge that the care and attention given to your mother-in-law is superb and has given her a new lease of life. It's something everyone at Porthaven takes pride in.

As a dementia patient that is what she responds best to and at Penhurst Gardens she receives love and care in abundance.

I found myself in the very unexpected and upsetting position of having to find a care home for my lovely 67 year old husband who unfortunately has been diagnosed with two sorts of dementia. I looked at a number of care facilities which were excellent in their own way but it wasn't until I visited Penhurst Gardens Care Home that I knew the type of home that I had been seeking for my husband existed. As we drove away that day I knew that I needn't look further. From our first meeting to my husband moving into the home, everything has progressed far more smoothly than I had expected. Of course it's very early days in our experience but I have been very impressed with the care, understanding and genuine interest that every member of the team that I have encountered has shown.
Thank you for your incredible comments. We work hard to exceed all expectations and the team will be thrilled to receive this feedback. The care and well-being of every resident is our number one priority and it is rewarding to have such positive feedback.

I have worked within the care sector for many years, and supporting and enhancing people’s lives has always been my vocation. I am passionate about making a positive difference, whatever that may look like for each person.
Throughout my career, I have enjoyed a wide range of roles across different care settings and have worked across the country. These experiences have allowed me to continually develop my knowledge, skills and understanding of best practice within health and social care.
What I value most about my role is the opportunity to meet new people and the variety that each day brings. I find great satisfaction in building meaningful relationships and adapting my approach to meet individual needs whilst continuing to learn through Porthaven.
I hold a range of qualifications that support my practice, which include qualifications in administration, business, a Registered Managers Award, a Higher National Diploma in Health and Social Care and a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care. These, combined with my experience, enable me to work in a professional yet personable manner, always placing the individual at the heart of what I do.

Hello, my name is Di, and I am the Home Administrator here at Penhurst Gardens.
I have an NVQ Level 5, my Medication Competency and was previously a finalist in the South East Great British Care Awards in the Ancillary Worker Category.
I thoroughly enjoy working at Penhurst Gardens, as no two days are the same. I never feel like I am going to work, as Penhurst Gardens is a welcoming, friendly home, and everybody is so supportive.
In my spare time, I like to listen to all types of music, and I am a member of the Oxford Gospel Choir. I also enjoy going to the theatre.
