I live in San Francisco and am visiting for 2 weeks. I can honestly say I am so relieved to see my dad being taken care of in a superb setting with an amazing team of staff. They're also so very kind to my mum which also gives me relief and I can worry less being so far away. It is a pleasure coming
here to see my dad. I already feel so welcome and part of the Penhurst Gardens family. I know I speak for my mum also.

The staff treat all residents as if they are family. The atmosphere is amazing. Grandad has activities tailored to his interests and has special visitors related to his role in the RAF - all organised by the activity staff.
The place is beautiful and always fantastically clean.

Penhurst Gardens is amazing. The staff are second to none here, everyone is so friendly and it is just like an extended family. My nan is a resident here and the care she gets is fantastic! The activities and days that are organised are brilliant - there is something for everyone to join in with. Penhurst
Gardens makes it that much easier seeing my nan in her current condition just because I know she is in the best hands.

The care provided at Penhurst Gardens is exemplary. The Care Manager has engaged some wonderful staff who make every effort to make residents feel happy and cared for. The facilities are excellent: fantastic food and drink of restaurant quality, lovely gardens and accommodation but most importantly
a place which provides a safe loving family environment. This home sets a standard which other homes should seek to emulate.

My mother has stayed two weeks of a four-week respite, recovering from a bad fall at home. At first, she was extremely resistant to any help at home, cleaners or carers coming in to help her so the prospect of a care home was awful to her. However, after just a few days at Penhurst Gardens she has joined
in with every activity offered, enjoyed meeting new friends and has been a revelation to all the family. It has been a touching thing to witness as she is so enjoying the company and care she has been given here. She seems very happy here!

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.642)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.642) out of 10 for Penhurst Gardens Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.642 for Penhurst Gardens Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (184 Excellents x 5) + (70 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 265 Ratings = 4.642
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Penhurst Gardens Care Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 registered maximum number of service users is 11.6, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
