I thought the cost would be prohibitive but it has been 100% worth us finding a way. My Mum is brighter, stronger, more settled and looking so much better than she did when she arrived. My position as a daughter, rather than a pseudo carer, has returned. I look forward now to visiting Mum, as I'm greeted
warmly by staff and nothing is too much trouble. There really is a family atmosphere and I know that my Mum is loved by the staff at Penhurst, even though she can be cantankerous! Nothing is too much trouble and the facilities are fabulous. Staff are warm and compassionate but Mum loves a little banter which is accommodated readily by staff with a laugh and a joke.
My Mum is now happier and as a result, my life has improved dramatically. I no longer worry about her falls, loneliness, eating properly or being clean and hygienic. Penhurst has got it all covered for me. They are worth every penny!

I was extremely impressed with every aspect of the home. The most important part being care of the service user which in my opinion, is second to none. Building, decor, gardens and aspect is very pleasing.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming making us feel very welcome and comfortable. Having
been in administration in a nursing home for years, I was very impressed.

I have regularly visited a dear friend who has been a resident for a number of weeks. Penhurst Gardens is wonderful. It is a five-star hotel with wonderful facilities and staff who are so professional but they are also caring, not only for the residents, but their friends and family, as your own family
would be. Nothing is too much trouble and they genuinely get right alongside the resident and their family. The home is full of love and joy. I would happily be there myself.

I was at Penhurst Gardens for two week's respite. I was very well looked after by all staff, nursing and domestic. My room was very comfortable. The food was good but I felt it was not always suitable for older people who do not have big appetites! I would be very happy to return to Penhurst in future!

I stayed in the Care Home following an operation on my ankle which left me on crutches and unable to look after myself. My room was very comfortable and well fitted out, the bathroom had a shower in a wet room environment which was excellent although not for my condition. Cleaning was carried out efficiently.

The

staff were very enthusiastic, friendly and always appeared with a smile. The call bell was answered promptly and no request was too much trouble. They recognised my different situation and were prepared to spend a little time talking to me.

The dining room was very attractive and the food well prepared and varied although, understandably, rather plain. Some dishes which I thought sounded unattractive turned out to be quite the opposite.

Because I was only there for respite care I did not join in any of the activities.

Everything is new and is being maintained to a very high standard. It proved to be an excellent place to start my recovery.

This place is amazing. Every member of staff was brilliant. We had no complaints at all.
The housekeeping staff were always available for whatever was needed. Nothing was too much trouble.
A very friendly place for my special friend to end the last few months of her life.
Many thanks.

With a combination of my wife's mother and then eventually my own mother needing to go into nursing homes, we looked at and experienced quite a number. This is by far the best nursing home we encountered and I can wholeheartedly recommend it. Penhurst Gardens and its staff were really excellent, and
their kindness to us, particularly on the evening my mother died, was outstanding.

My mother-in-law needed respite after a serious operation. Her two week stay at Penhurst Gardens was perfect. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The home was run efficiently and all the resident's needs were catered for. I would thoroughly recommend Penhurst Gardens as a nursing home.

My mother was the first person to be hosted at Penhurst Gardens Care Home. The establishment had only just opened. She was treated with great care and received a lot of special attention. The room is really nice and has views and access to the gardens, and Mum likes having some of her own things around
her. The staff showed competence in meeting her physical and care needs. They also put themselves out to make sure she is happy. The facilities are excellent. Very smart. The food is of a very high standard, and I particularly like that science is applied to it's delivery to each client, to ensure that their dietary needs are met & that their weight is optimal. My mother's health has stabilised & generally improved since she has been there. As a family, we are able to visit at any time, and there are several places where we can all be together in comfort and privacy. We even had Christmas lunch there in the bar/lounge area. Our requests are usually met promptly. Generally, we are happy.

My mother moved into Penhurst after suffering a stroke. She needs a great deal of care, which the staff at Penhurst expertly provide with warmth, grace, and the utmost professionalism, whether they are carers, nurses, housekeepers or catering staff. They are genuinely caring and build strong, open relationships
with the residents and their families. The environment is lovely - more like a hotel than a traditional care home - and the food is great. No-one wants to see their parents in a care home, but if it's necessary, this one couldn't be better.

My mother went into Penhurst for respite care over the Christmas period and I cannot fault the standard of the staff.
Very efficient, all the staff were very pleasant, the food was excellent and nothing was too much for them.
My mother did even comment that she may be returning to me, that was a result
knowing that she was in very happy surroundings and with people that cared and that could provide for her needs.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.642)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.642) out of 10 for Penhurst Gardens Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.642 for Penhurst Gardens Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (184 Excellents x 5) + (70 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 265 Ratings = 4.642
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Penhurst Gardens Care Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 registered maximum number of service users is 11.6, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
