My father benefits hugely from the personal and adaptable service offered by the staff at Penhurst. He has settled into his new home extremely well as a result of the excellent care he has been given. He is treated with respect at all times and his individuality is valued. My mother visits very regularly
and is also treated very well by the staff, she is comfortable in the visits she makes and has, like my father, developed positive relationships with the staff. My daughters and brother also feel very happy with the care given by Penhurst staff and speak very highly of the home.

I have come back for further respite care and am pleased indeed to be doing so. this is a wonderful place full of laughter and always a smile, even in awkward situations. I have found the place well-run, very thorough and efficient. The meals are varied and top quality. If anyone of hungry later, whatever
the time, hot drinks and sandwiches with cake or biscuits can always be had. There are numerous activities and outings to join in on if one wants to. the rooms are spacious and extremely nice. the ensuite works well.
I highly commend the whole set up and am so grateful for the care I receive. It was always there but not intrusive.

We felt instantly at home at Penhurst. It's so relaxed and everyone makes a real effort to make sure you feel part of this big family. Fantastic food and full compliments to the chefs. Totally delicious. We particularly enjoyed the activity session today talking about the history of Chipping Norton.
Cannot thank staff enough as well for all the kindness and sense of fun.

I was made to feel extremely welcome as soon as I came in. All staff are friendly and helpful. I could tell they all have a good rapport with residents and visitors alike. The facilities are excellent a lot of thought has gone into the design of this home. The home is secure and safe and I feel content
that my relative is safe and well cared for. It feels more like a hotel than a nursing home which is lovely for residents and visitors. We were given a tour of the home and gained an insight into the excellent range of activities on offer.

My first visit to my mother-in-law and it's impressive - both the place and the impact on my mother-in-law.
She is less confused, more relaxed and evidently feels safe and able to make friends and join in both these are quite new to her and a pleasure to see. Wonderful and thanks.

I honestly believe this is the best place for my grandfather to receive the care and attention he needs whilst also being of great support to my grandmother. Penhurst have been a great source of support to the family whilst my grandmother, some months ago, transitioned from hospital to this care setting.
Activities and conversation catered to each individual show the ability and effort to provide personalised care. He has fun here as well as seeing that his physical and mental health needs are taken care of.

I visited my grandmother for the first time since she had been at Penhurst Gardens Care Home. It is a very welcoming environment. She loves her room and she said how lovely the nurses are to her and she loves the food too! All the staff are very welcoming and try to cater to her individual needs. They
are very gentle with the residents. They also organise lots of activities such as last nights Christmas party. It had real reindeer, a choir singing carols and some lovely food. They try and involve family members which is lovely! It is a very positive environment!

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.702)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.702) out of 10 for Penhurst Gardens Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.702 for Penhurst Gardens Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (227 Excellents x 5) + (67 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 305 Ratings = 4.702
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Penhurst Gardens Care Home is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 registered maximum number of service users is 11.6, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
