We had a wonderful casino night at Portsdown View Care Home! The atmosphere was cosy, familial and a lot of fun. It was clear the staff all have great, supportive and loving relationships with the residents and we came together as one big family to enjoy a fun themed night. Lovely drinks, canapés and
live music added to the warm atmosphere, giving us a chance to have fun with our loved one.

I came to the care home for recovery and respite from a replacement hip operation on 14/1/26 for 2 weeks and 3 days. I needed to work on my exercises to improve the muscle strength around the hip. I was on the dementia floor, but I did not mind this, as I was there to do "my own thing". It was a pity
the care home had an outbreak which prevented full use of the bistro area of the home, but I consider this fortunate, I was in the isolated upper floor, since I did not catch it. All the staff were friendly, considerate and helpful, and the respite has prepared me well to look after myself at home. I can recommend this home.
Reply from Stella Austin, Customer Relationship Manager at Portsdown ViewDear R,

Thank you very much for your lovely feedback. We're so pleased to hear that your stay supported your recovery and helped you feel confident returning home.
We truly appreciate your understanding during the outbreak, and we're glad you remained safe and well. Your kind words about our team mean a great deal and will be shared with them.

Wishing you continued strength and good health.

My father was unwell in January.
The staff, notably Hayley and Donna were absolutely marvelous. Both members of staff contacted me and kept me updated regarding his care and plan.
I didn't want him to go to hospital because I believe the care the staff are able to provide at Portsdown would be much
more beneficial to anything the hospital would be able to do.
I wanted him kept safe and comfortable.
This is what they did and did it well.
I have nothing to say but thanks to all involved with looking after my dad.
Reply from Stella Austin, Customer Relationship Manager at Portsdown ViewDear K D, thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. Your kind words truly mean a great deal to us.

We're so pleased to hear that you felt supported during what must have been a worrying time for you and your father. Hayley, Donna, and the wider team will be incredibly touched to know that their communication, care and dedication made a difference. It means a great deal to us that you felt confident in the care provided at Portsdown View, and we are grateful for the trust you place in our team.

Portsdown View has created a safe and nurturing environment for my father since June. I have felt listened to by staff and they have acted on any concerns including medication or diet. The house staff keep the care home clean and tidy. The care staff show they know Dad well and support him well with
personal hygiene and interaction. There has been a blip with no one heading events recently but a new lady started yesterday.

From the moment we stepped into the home, we felt that we were in a comfortable environment where the residents are treated as an individual. Each room is designed differently. The food for residents and visitors is excellent. The hospitality from the team is truly exceptional. There is choice with
everything from decor to food to entertainment. The resident is truly independent and they are able to show hospitality with family and friends. The wine!! Delicious. Helathy choice in food. All the managers are kind and very approachable. Thank you for everything. Well done! PS Difficult to get in at times, problem with doors.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.867)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.867) out of 10 for Portsdown View is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 53 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 52 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.867 for Portsdown View is calculated as follows: ( (565 Excellents x 5) + (58 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 633 Ratings = 4.867
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Portsdown View is based on 52 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2, which has been reached with 52 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
