Portsdown View

I had major abdominal surgery at the end of March and was in hospital for a week. I had investigated places for a week's convalescent care afterwards and Portsdown View was only a 10 minute drive from where my daughter lives. I went to see the place before my operation and was so impressed that I
booked a weeks stay after leaving hospital.

When I stayed at Portsdown View I could not fault the staff, accommodation, managers and food provided in the restaurant. The staff were amazing and look after the residents with compassion and nothing is ever too much.

The residents who are there permanently have a lovely environment, are well looked after and are entertained with activities.

I would definitely recommend Portsdown View for a short or long stay.

Willowbrook View

from Graham D (Nephew of Resident) published on 22 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Over four visits this spring, my wife and I have been consistently impressed by the warm, welcoming atmosphere and outstanding care at Willowbrook View in Swindon. In newly landscaped grounds near canal towpaths, it offers peaceful outdoor activity and easy access to local amenities, including a nearby
pub/restaurant and Waitrose. A memorable moment was seeing two herons while our grandson joyfully pushed his Great Great Uncle along the tow-path, a heartwarming, multi-generational experience.

Inside, the care continues. Staff are genuinely kind and attentive to both residents and visitors, creating a true sense of community. The food is exceptional, and the bistro and bar team go above and beyond to provide compassionate service in a relaxed, uplifting setting. The interiors are beautifully maintained, and we were pleased to see my uncle finish a tailored exercise session with the in-house physical trainer.

Willowbrook View feels like a five-star hotel-with all the warmth of home.

Reply from Natasha Stone, Deputy Manager at Willowbrook View

We moved our dad here from another care home as he wasn't getting the right care or nutrition, he has been at the chase for 8 weeks now and all we can say is WOW,
The staff are amazing they go above and beyond in caring for all the residents .
The food is absolutely incredible, the quality is outstanding
and we his children eat here with him which is something we never did at his last placement..
To see the standard of food served is just outstanding.
Because my dad has dementia we were concerned the affect of the move would have on him, but it's actually the opposite he is so much happier .
Thank you all so much for making my dad so happy

My mother recently moved into The Chase as a resident. All the staff , from Reception, management, carers, activity staff, bar staff, cleaners , have been so friendly and welcoming , not only to mum but to myself and other relatives that have visited. Their support has really helped the transition to
residential care.
Their activity programme and enthusiasm of the staff has been fantastic! Mum especially enjoys the flower arranging and bingo, and enjoyed the carpet bowls too!
Mum comments regularly on how delicious the meals are and we also enjoyed a wonderful meal in the private dining room for a special Birthday and were surprised by a beautiful Birthday cake too.
I can highly recommend The Chase and Thankyou to all the Staff for all their kindness and hard work.

Mum arrived at Henbrook from hospital when she was bedbound and, at 97 with little chance of that changing. 3 months later, she is up, able to walk short distances and is enjoying life. The exceptional care she has received is a major factor. I can't visit without members of staff telling me of her
latest achievement. Thank you all at Henbrook.

Every week, as a childminder we bring a group of children to Henbrook. The children, full of energy and curiosity, engage in various activities with the residents - from simple crafts to interactive games and storytelling sessions. The children and residents have formed a special bond.

For the

elderly residents, these weekly visits provide social interaction, with a younger generation. Many residents seen smiling, engaging in lighthearted conversations, and even helping the children with certain tasks. For those with more limited mobility, the amazing staff ensured they can still participate by incorporating seated activities or sharing story books with the children.

These visits have created a positive, family-like atmosphere at Henbrook House. The residents and children look forward to the visits, it's clear that this initiative is more than just play; it's about fostering connections that bridge generations, providing emotional benefits to both young and old.

My family had a long haul holiday and was looking for respite for caring for elderly mother. I chose Portsdown view as previously visited and mother's sister is in full term care. My initial contact with the care home was very positive, excellent communications. A week prior to her arriving we had
an assessment review which was detailed and made me fill happy leaving my mother in their care. The accommodation, staff and managers were excellent and she received outstanding care and they provided constant activities to keep her engaged and made sure she felt as she was on holiday. The food standards were excellent, beautiful maintained facilities. I will certainly recommend and will use again. I can't thank the team enough for all they did and in such a positive manner.

My parents came in on respite after my mothers operation. Sadly they didn't mix much but I can't fault the staff. Care was carried out in full but any extra help was hit and miss when it came to exercises and physio. With regard to management, I can only thank the staff member in the bistro and another
in the office. Without their help and understanding I don't know what would have happened. Two incredible people!!

Reply from Pippa Mafunga, General Manager at Portsdown View

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. We're truly sorry to hear that your parents didnt feel able to mix much during their stay, and we understand how important that social connection can be especially during recovery. We also take on board your comments regarding the inconsistency in support with exercises and physiotherapy. Your feedback is invaluable and will be shared with our team to help us improve in this area. We're grateful for your kind words about our staff, particularly the team members in the bistro and the office. Having been a daily visitor for eleven weeks I have seen many examples of the gentle but effective care all staff extend to residents regardless of physical or mental problems. I perceive this is the normal approach not the exception which is commendable. Faced with a serious medical emergency in the
past week with the resident I visit I cannot give enough praise to the two members of staff who handled this difficult situation with skill professionalism and empathy. When recovered the resident will return permanently as this is an exceptional care home.

We moved our Dad from another care home where he had lived for 4 years to Meadowbrook in February 2025 and the move has been seamless. The staff have been exceptional, especially two staff members who personally took responsibility for settling our Dad, who is living with advanced Lewy Body Dementia.
We had been so worried to move him so far into his diagnosis, however the team have made him feel safe and comfortable. He is sleeping better than ever and has finally started gaining the weight he has lost steadily over the last 9 months. When asked, with limited vocabulary he describes his new home as 'feeling like home, home'. I am sleeping better too and don't feel the need to keep checking in. We couldn't have wished for more.

Reply from Laura Adams, General Manager at Meadowbrook Care Home

Thank you so much for your kind feedback, I am absolutely delighted you feel this way and that you are sleeping better. I will be sure to share this with the team. Dad is such a gentleman and a real pleasure to care for.

Management care and attention are excellent, friendly, good communication and caring approach for the resident.
Caring staff on what I have observed are a little bit slack and take the residents first reaction as gospel. Resident with dementia sometimes cannot communicate if they are thirsty or hungry
and could have not had drink or food all day. I know it's difficult as there are other residents but a bit more observation would greatly help.
Staff should encourage residents to get involved and participate in all of the facilities and organised events so the residents settle and enjoy the home easier.

Reply from Laura Adams, General Manager at Meadowbrook Care Home

Thank you for your review and lovely words. We appreciate that the care needs of our residents can vary depending on their specific conditions and diagnosis as well as how we are required to adapt our approach dependent on this. I would really like to further understand the observations you have had and so have reached out personally to ensure we are always providing the extraordinary care we strive for.

My mum has spent 2 weeks here in respite care. I have seen more staff than residents and they are all very welcoming, friendly and caring. It is lovely and clean. Residents are well looked after. We had an 85th party for my mum, food was lovely and they made her a birthday cake and bought her flowers
which she loved, she has dementia so couldn't remember any of it. The family appreciated all the effort from the staff. So far everything has been positive.
