I recently spent 4 weeks at The Fleet Care Home recovering from a broken ankle. The warm welcoming atmosphere, my comfortable stylish room and the friendliness , care and encouragement from all the staff were much appreciated. I enjoyed the meals which were varied and plentiful. The Cove on the ground
floor, with access to the lovely garden, was a favourite place to relax and enjoy a coffee and delicious slice of cake. It was also the venue for the wide range of entertainment and activities organised by their talented and creative team of staff and volunteers. I will certainly remember my time there with gratitude and affection.

What a joy to visit a care home and feel uplifted, rather than depressed! My sister had fractured her ankle and desperately needed somewhere for respite care whilst I was out of the country. After a fruitless search for anywhere with availability near her Plymouth home, our spirits lifted when we spotted
The Fleet's website. First impressions are so important, and from the moment we stepped inside the 'hotel like' lobby, we both knew that this was somewhere special. The overall vibe was one of positivity, from the bright, airy interior to the lovely, hard working, caring staff and beautifully tended garden. Not a whiff of over cooked cabbage or disinfectant in this establishment, but instead, vases of beautiful, fresh flowers and the aroma of fresh coffee wafting from the delightful Cove, where we met up on my return. Now safely back in her own home, she cannot speak highly enough of the care she received, so a HUGE thank you to everyone at Fleet for their kindness.

My husband was in The Fleet for six weeks for respite care, he was very happy there.
I visited him on most days and was always welcomed by reception and by staff on his floor.
He was encouraged to partake in activities some of which I went with him.


It was very nice to Have The Cove to spend time

with him and friends who came to visit instead of having to stay in his room.


We have been back to visit and join in with the choir and again the staff were so welcoming.

We loved the refreshing vibes when we first visited Fleet last year and now that we are relatives of a resident we know we were not wrong about our first impressions as the actuality exceeds anything and everything we hoped for in the best Care home we found.
The Manager is caring and empathetic
and this spreads to his amazing Team who are also individually lovely and full of life even though they must get weary, it doesn't show.
We feel we have joined an extended family.
The activities are wonderful too and whilst our relative didn't choose to be at Fleet, getting involved in these activities has opened up his previous small World and it's lovely to see photos of him joining in.
To have such a beautiful garden too for him to sit out in having not been able to access his own previously is just wonderful.
We cannot thank the Manager and his Team enough for welcoming us into the Fleet 'family' and so my recommendation is 10/10 and maximum stars.

My father is at The Fleet and has received wonderful care and an array of activities that I am sure has prolonged his life and memory in comparison to being alone in his flat. There always seems to be some activity or entertainment for the residents and they genuinely seem to be having fun. There could

My mother came to the Fleet in summer 2024 . She had previously in sheltered accommodation but she has dementia and was no longer able/safe to care for herself.
The Fleet is bright, clean and modern. The facilities are very good : communal areas on each floor; a cafe/general area for the regular events;
a well stocked and neat courtyard garden.
Above all the staff are without exception cheerful and genuinely caring and well qualified.
I drop in at irregular times in the week and have never found anything to give me cause for concern.
If anyone wants to know more I am happy to share my experiences directly.

My father came into the Fleet in December as he could no longer care for himself. Since then the care has been excellent, friendly staff, and nothing too much trouble. They have allowed him to make his room is own. The activities and entertainment are numerous and varied. The food is good. It's not
cheap but no care home is! Highly recommend.

Whenever I have visited fleet you are always warmly welcomed and the staff are always so engaging with all of the their residents. The activities that the residents participate in are fantastic and everyone looks so happy to be taking part. The coffee mornings that the home put on to raise money for
charities are always well organised and it's just a lovely place to visit.

The atmosphere is welcoming and more like a hotel than a care home. Rooms facilities first class. The staff are very efficient and supportive of family and the care my husband received was a great comfort to us.
The medical support from the doctor ensured his last days were peaceful.

My wife had been in the home for nearly 2 years until she died in December. The whole of staff have always been very friendly and caring.

Care home staff were excellent, the Fleet is a clean well run home with caring, empathetic staff. They looked after my mother with dignity and respect. The 'on site' manager and admin staff were also very good. However, having paid with my money (not my mother's) for a month in advance by bank transfer
on admittance day, and later being due a refund of over £4500 the financial team demanded a raft of, in my opinion, unnecessary paperwork and the details of a solicitor to sanction a refund. They said it would take 60 days and up to 6 months to approve. In 2024 I find this scandalous, it left me with a bad taste.

I have visited Gran here a few times now. I'd love to visit more often but live a distance away.
Every time we've visited we've received a warm welcome. The staff are so friendly and Gran loves every one of them. She always gives them a kiss and hand hold.
There are plenty of activities and the home
is bright and airy.

My husband moved into The Fleet Care Home in July 2024, during the past four months for me personally it has been extremely difficult, but with the support from the Manager and all his staff, it has made this journey for both of us, a smooth transition from hospital, going through assessments, to now
his new home. I use the word home, we have moved personal belongings into his room, you can decorate should you wish, maintenance help you with pictures on the wall, they are there for you. Whatever may arise on a daily basis, your loved one finding it difficult to adjustment just talk or email them, someone will do their best to resolve it for you. I highly recommend for anyone in the situation of having to find a place to call home for their loved one, just make an appointment, look around this beautiful care home.

On visiting the home at Fleet on several occasions, the staff are all very pleasant. Everywhere is very clean and tidy. Plenty of entertainment is put on for the residents and trips out for those who are able.

Needing to place my mum in a nursing home was not something I had prepared for. Initial conversations with admin staff and management could not have been more reassuring and friendly. My mum's complicated needs were understood fully, staff were interested in her as a person. The activities team were
terrific, encouraging and sensitive. The integral The Cove Bistro, where hot and cold drinks and plenty of homemade treats were always available to us all, was a fabulous way of making each visit an outing, such a great idea! What I really loved about spending time with my mum at The Fleet was the warmth and friendship shown by the staff towards me. There is a genuine upbeat atmosphere in the home, created by happy staff who so obviously feel great fondness for the residents in their care; how great is it that this extended to admin, management, maintenance, housekeeping and kitchen staff? All taking trouble to get to know my mum and spend time with her. Thank you Team Fleet!

I found the care home to be spotless and friendly. I met some of the staff who were all so lovely and caring and nothing is too much trouble. Offered a drink as soon as I arrived. My friend's mum who I have known since I was 7 (I am now 68) is happy there. They have lots of activities and entertainment
and even virtual pets and soon children. Wonderful place.

Marc

Marc Chudley

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2024

Marc is the Home Manager at The Fleet Care Home. Working in care for over 15 years, Marc started his career as a carer and worked up to become a qualified nurse and then on to Registered Manager. Marc has been working as a Home Manager for over 6 years and loves what he does.


Marc joined The Fleet in April 2024 and has a passion for truly Person-Centred care and delivering high standards with every service provided within the home. Marc is working hard to develop the Home and is looking forward to sharing the vision and the changes with the residents and their families in the coming months.

Sharon

Sharon Eden

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Joined: 2021

Sharon is our Deputy Manager here at The Fleet Care Home, having been qualified for 27 years and having worked in care for 34 years. Sharon has predominantly worked in elderly care throughout her career but has experience in many other areas within the care and earned a few additional strings to her bow.


Sharon has specialist qualifications in Tissue Viability, Diabetes, and Infection Control.


Sharon enjoys reading and animals outside of work and often brings her 4-month-old puppy, Micah, to work and visit the residents.

Lizzie Callan

Job Title: Administrator

Joined: 2020

Lizzie has been working at The Fleet since it opened and is passionate about her role within our home. She finds the best part of her job is helping make the residents feel happy in a safe and secure environment. Lizzie loves being a part of the team and is known to spend time with the residents getting to know each one of them.


Outside of work, Lizzie enjoys spending time with her loved ones and motorbiking across Europe.

John started work at the Fleet in 2021 as the Maintenance Manager, he comes with a wealth of experience in this field.

Sarah

Sarah Pinhorne

Job Title: Head of Unit

Sarah Pinhorne is the Head of Unit for our new Dementia Community here at The Fleet. Worked in care for over 31 years and throughout her career as a Healthcare Assistant and Senior Healthcare assistant, before completing her nursing training at Plymouth University and becoming a Registered Mental Health Nurse.


Sarah has had experience working in dementia care, both in EMI and overseeing a Dementia Care Community before. She has a passion for ensuring excellent care is provided at all times and that the support and care that is delivered are person-centred and holistic.

Viv Munslow

Job Title: Head of Unit

Viv has been working in care for the past 25 years and has been with The Fleet since it opened. She has worked up from a carer to a Head of Unit and is now Head of Unit for Drake, our residential community. Viv really enjoys supporting our residents, prompting their independence, and making every day special for them.


Compared to all her previous jobs, Viv says this is the best of them all! Viv loves being able to help others and says we are all like a little family here.

Adam

Adam Borbas

Job Title: Senior Care Assistant

Adam is one of our Senior Care Assistants. Adam works in care because he believes that everybody deserves to live a happy and dignified life in the way they see fit even if they need help to achieve it. “Regarding my work, I am passionate about person-centred care which I believe is the most important segment of our numerous duties. If the passionate section is more about my personal life, I am most passionate about educating people in my own way about the importance of history and human nature through the lens of history.


As a hobby I do like a good long drive, it enables me to think clearly. I also like to lose myself in fantasy or sci-fi worlds while reading or watching movies”.

Holly is one of our wonderful Care Assistants. After completing her degree in counselling, Holly decided that wanted to be more hands-on and has loved getting to know each and every resident here at The Fleet.

Kimberly

Kimberly Heales

Job Title: Activities Coordinator

Joined: 2022

Kimberley is our Activities Coordinator and works within the healthcare industry purely because she loves helping others! She is a passionate member of the team and really focuses on helping our Dementia Care residents by improving these individuals’ well-being!


She is often seen singing and dancing around The Fleet because of her huge love of music. Kimberley put on multiple events and activities for our home and captures these special moments on camera.


Kimberley works closely with the local community and often sets up fundraisers for various local causes!

Pammy

Pammy Anthony

Job Title: Housekeeping Assistant

Joined: 2022

Pammy is one of our Housekeeping Assistants at our home and she is a massive part of making sure our home remains to be a tidy and safe environment. Pammy is known for taking time to speak to our residents and forming relationships with people new to our home.

Nicholas

Nicholas Davies

Job Title: Laundry Assistant

Nick along with Sue runs the Laundry here at The Fleet Care Home in Dartmouth. Nick’s job is to ensure that not only is there plenty of bed and table linen and towels on all of the floors but also that all of the residents have their personal clothes washed and returned to them. It’s an important job and both Nick and Sue feel rather proud of their “part of the ship”, having it run really smoothly. When Nick isn’t collecting and distributing, he likes to try and find the time to stop and chat with our residents.
