The Fleet stands out on all levels. The environment is lovely, always clean and comfortable. Staff are so genuinely friendly and caring and the care and support is outstanding. It's so comforting to know my mum is being cared for so well. Its a process registering your parent into care, but The Fleet
and staff here made it such an assuring process. Couldn't have asked for more.

My husband has received a high standard of care, delivered with kindness and good humour. He has had his needs dealt with appropriately. He is content, as his medication has been adjusted to make his life as comfortable and painfree as possible. All members of staff, carers, nurses and the doctor have
worked together to achieve the best quality life for him. The atmosphere in all areas is friendly and supportive, and visitors of the resident are made welcome.

I visit my good friend (of 25 years) each week. Sometimes he is unshaven and unshowered and oddly dressed. I understand that he has the freedom to refuse help. I sometimes find it difficult to communicate with staff whose English is poor. Do you have a designated person assigned to be responsible for
an individual? It might be helpful if the staff 'on duty' were not so often using their mobile phones. At times the noise level in the corridor is too loud. Generally the staff seem supportive and helpful.
Reply from Marc Chudley, Manager at The Fleet Care HomeThank you for leaving a review and for meeting with me to discuss your feedback. We value your comments and the opportunity to clarify some of the points raised.
As discussed, we support residents in a person-centred way, respecting their choices while encouraging and offering assistance with personal care whenever possible. There are occasions when residents choose to decline support, and we must balance their independence with their wellbeing.
We also discussed communication, and you confirmed that you know your friend's key worker and the Head of Unit who you regularly communicate with outside of your 30 minute weekly visits, which you described as positive.
I would also like to clarify that the devices you see staff using are electronic care-recording pods, not personal mobile phones. These are used to document care throughout the day.
It was encouraging to hear your positive comments about our team being supportive and helpful. Thank you again for the review & meeting with me.

My dad was a very challenging resident and the staff could not have been more kind, capable and compassionate. There is a great 'team' friendly staff vibe. The building and garden are very smart and modern with a light airy feel. The food was delicious! I would not hesitate to recommend The Fleet.

I have found that the care and support given to my wife has been exceptional. Nothing seems to be too much trouble from the kind hard-working staff. Also the thought, support, sensitivity and provisions provided for visitors is amazing..
The building itself is kept spotless by the cleaners that perform
a difficult task so well, and take a real pride in their work.
The food is A1. In the lounge near the entrance, there is always a supply of delicious home-made cakes along with a bean to coffee machine that visitors are invited to take advantage of.
I have visited friends in other care homes and I must say that the Fleet surpasses them all.
In conclusion, I cannot find a single thing that I feel Would improve the service and management of the Fleet.
So well done!

My mother was offered a place at the Fleet care home for respite care, but then didn't want to go back home. The facilities are a very high standard, but what stands out are the staff. There is a lovely friendly supportive atmosphere which you sense as soon as you walk in. Mum was made to feel welcome
and nothing was too much trouble. The nurse manager was outstanding in looking after her and organised extra GP visits, home oxygen and complicated prescriptions which required considerable persistence. The care staff did an excellent job and were kind and thoughtful. I and my family were delighted that mum spent her last weeks in this home.
Reply from Marc Chudley, Manager at The Fleet Care HomeThank you for your kind review and for taking the time to share your experience. We are very grateful for your thoughtful comments about our home, facilities and, most importantly, our team.

We recently visited a friend of ours in your home and were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome and friendly manager on duty that day, who gave us complimentary refreshments before seeing our friend. The staff create a homely atmosphere by being, friendly, approachable and helpful. We loved the
complimentary cafe and seating area, where we could sit and talk as a group, and admire the fine art work of the residents displayed. We walked away feeling our friends were in good hands, based on our experience. We would highly recommend it. We have had a number of friends here over the years and have always found the staff kind and helpful.

When my dad could no longer manage at home, I could not have wished for him to be anywhere else. He settled in and it was his home. He was treated with love and affection from everyone who looked after him. The facilities were second to none. Family birthday teas, entertainment and trips out. Spending
time in the garden, helping out. I cannot thank everyone enough for all their kindness.

I have had some experience with care homes (mother, mother-in-law, sister) and so when I was told that my best and closest friend would be going into one after her stay in hospital, I was naturally concerned that the right one would be found for her. The Fleet Care Home was chosen and so far I really
cannot fault it. All of the staff are all very friendly and helpful. My friend has settled in very well, she is extremely well looked after and if anything is needed there are always staff nearby.
The activities which are put on for the residents are varied, something for everyone.

It's as if every member of staff have formed their own little company to provide the very best possible loving care for members of their OWN family.

My mum who had advanced dementia and cancer spent her last few months of life at the Fleet on Macbride floor, and died a few days ago while receiving exceptional nursing care. I have been blown away by the extraordinary care she has experienced over her 4 months there. The staff are so lovely and have
created such a great family atmosphere. Each day is packed with joyful moments, activities and fun. My favourite anecdote is when mum and another resident got up at 2am and were definitely ready to start the day rather than go back to bed: the carer made them a midnight feast in the lounge area (to keep the noise away from the other residents) and got out the karaoke machine for them to enjoy, and that they did! What a great example of mum getting to live life and have fun on her terms. My only regret is not making the decision to move her to the fleet earlier. It really is such an extraordinary care home and I am so impressed and so grateful for mum's wonderful care right until the end.

On behalf of everyone at The Fleet, and particularly the Macbride team, we would like to offer our condolences on the loss of your mum. It was a privilege to be involved in her care over the past few months.
We are truly grateful for your kind words about our staff, the atmosphere in the home and the way we support residents to live life on their own terms. The memory of the "midnight feast" and karaoke really captures the warm, person-centred care we aim to provide to everyone who stays with us.

The Fleet is the furthest away from a care home that you could ever imagine. From the minute my mum walked into the Fleet, she was met by lovely receptionists, shown around and then taken up to see her room, where she was blown away by the new furniture, carpet and the view! She settled right away and
was very happy there.
My mum had advanced dementia and a terminal illness, but the care and support she received from the MacBride unit was exceptional. Nothing was ever too much trouble and the kindness from the the nurses and HCA's, not only towards mum, but to myself and my dad was incredible.
The entire team are truly inspiring and exceptional people, including the chef who made mum her favourite birthday cake, which was brought into her room along with a traditional tea pot and cups and saucers for us to celebrate her last birthday.
i will be forever grateful to everyone there for everything they did for my mum and how they treated her with absolute dignity right until the end.
Reply from Marc Chudley, Manager at The Fleet Care HomeThank you so much for your moving review. It means a great deal to everyone at The Fleet to know that from the first welcome at reception through to seeing her room, you and your mum felt reassured and well looked after. We're delighted she was happy with the new furnishings and the view.
Your kind words about the MacBride unit are especially appreciated - caring for someone with advanced dementia and a terminal illness is a privilege, and the nurses and HCAs will be genuinely touched to hear their support made a difference to you and your dad as well. The chef will also appreciate how the memory of the cake and tea service for her birthday was special.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.811 for The Fleet Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (419 Excellents x 5) + (58 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 493 Ratings = 4.811
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Fleet Care Home is based on 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 79 registered maximum number of service users is 15.8, which has been reached with 40 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
