Overall Experience

My mum joined the care home in January. It has been a difficult period of adjustment for her, due to her dementia and losing my father and brother recently. The regular staff have been very kind and gone out of their way to engage with her and encourage her to join in activities. Relatives came to visit and the staff organised a lovely lunch of sandwiches and cakes, plus tea served in a proper teapot and bone china cups. The food and presentation was excellent. My only gripe is with the agency staff who can be cold and unsmiling. However, the regular staff are wonderful.

Reply from Artur Adamski, Home Manager at West Hill Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback, which we will share with the team. We do our utmost to minimise the use of agency, however, sometimes staff call in not feeling well or with personal issues. Where we have to, we do try and get regular agency staff. I am glad you are happy with the care we are providing as we do try and make everyone as happy as possible.

This was my first experience of visiting West Hill Care Home. It was very positive, despite being sobering as this was to visit the first of any of my friends who have had to move into a care home. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The place inside is beautifully decorated and very clean. I didn’t see the outdoor facilities but gather from another friend there is a small courtyard with seating.

I would like to thank all the staff of West Hill Care Home for all the help and support that has been given to me in regard to a very difficult time of my father-in-law needing to be looked after for his health and safety. They have shown compassion empathy and understanding of the situation I am in. They have provided me with information and help regarding his care I couldn’t have managed without them being there with total understanding. The home is beautifully designed, housekeeping is of a very high standard and the staff are always welcoming so many activities for the residents every day and the food is of high quality. I'm so happy I chose this home, I would recommend this home to anyone who is in a situation with their loved ones. Very professional and provide a safe and natural home for all the residents I can’t thank them enough.

My mum moved to West Hill Care Home in November 2023.
We went to have a look around before she went in and found a very modern, clean home with welcoming staff and this has stayed this way.
If you have any problems they do try to sort them out straight away

Having a parent having to leave their home to go into care can be a worrying time but at West Hill, they make it as easy as they can.

Mum has been really well looked after by all the staff at West Hill Care home. Being discharged from hospital Mum was frail from her illness and prolonged hospital stay, and with their help and assistance she has returned to good health along with growing confidence and now looking forward to returning home with a support plan in place.
It was great for us to know all of Mum's medicine needs were managed and provided to her as prescribed, along with regular weekly Doctor's visit.

Mum has enjoyed making friends, as well as the activities that are laid out in the mornings and afternoons, especially looking forward to lunch times where she enjoys the good quality food along with her friends.

Reply from Artur Adamski, Home Manager at West Hill Care Home

Thank you for your kind words which we will share with the team. We are pleased that Mum has made enough of a recovery to be able to go back to her own home. I know she made some great friends at the West Hill who will miss her, so it would be lovely to see her for lunch, fish and chips on Fridays was always a favourite.

My mother arrived at West Hill Care Home in mid-August for 4 weeks of respite care (pending either a move to be nearer me or conversion to permanent stay at West Hill, subject to Mum's happiness). When we visited everything seemed fine and we were promised the sort of personal care which we hoped to find for Mum. The reality was very disappointing.
From the moment Mum arrived, care staff were on the back foot and seemed unready to settle Mum in. Mum was confused and after 4 hours had not yet been shown how to call for assistance from her room. Over the next few days, there were many safety and welfare concerns which were communicated to the management at the home and we did not feel were adequately addressed and so after a fortnight, we moved Mum to a new home.

The Care Home Manager changed during the fortnight of Mum's stay. It has taken 4 months to recover from the trauma of this experience and write a review. I hope that others have a more positive experience.

We are obviously disappointed that you have had a negative experience. We always take all feedback very seriously.

Regretfully, I had to accept I was no longer able to manage my husband's dementia. At a distressing time, we were fortunate to be welcomed with understanding and compassion at West Hill Care Home. The staff are always pleasant friendly and welcoming. I feel relieved my husband has so much freedom as his dementia allows. I would find it helpful and reassuring if the reception provision was manned at weekends (but I believe this is being looked into)

Very pleased with the care and attention my relative has had. All the staff are very kind, caring and helpful and management are very hands-on and approachable. Everything is clean and well-maintained. Excellent range of entertainment and activities. Lovely, sheltered garden. Rooms are spacious and well-furnished. Lovely friendly staff from reception to cleaners who always go that extra mile to look after the residents. We couldn’t be happier with how our relatives have settled and the standard of care they receive. The dementia floor is always welcoming and the resident's needs are always catered for, West Hill really is exceptional.

My mother has been in the care home for nearly a year. She is pleased with the care she receives. The staff are very friendly and approachable. There are many activities on offer and my mother enjoys the bingo mornings. The meals on offer are of a high standard and variety. My mother is pleased with her room and the facilities it offers. The staff are very informative in the event of any changes or accidents that happen. The one negative point that my mother has mentioned to me is that sometimes there appears to be a shortage of staff. Overall I am pleased with the level of care my mother is receiving at West Hill Care Home.

My father-in-law was transferred from hospital in early March. We had been to visit the home and found the atmosphere very friendly, calm and caring. He is unfortunately not able to get out of bed so is cared for in his room. Being turned every 2 hours to relieve the pressure on his sores, which he had on entering West Hill Care Home. The staff are excellent and always say hello when passing.
