My mum was distraught at losing her independence and having to move into a nursing home. Everyone at Cluny Lodge worked incredibly hard to personalise her experience, listen to her, and accommodate her wishes. They were kind, professional, and willing and able to take time to chat and treat her as an individual. Everything is at a high standard - nursing and personal care, physiotherapy, catering, and the physical environment including the gardens. I am very happy to recommend Cluny Lodge to people I know.
We do appreciate your feedback and are honoured we have been a small part of your mum's journey, at this difficult time. Personalising care is one of our main aims, so it is good to know this was appreciated.
Wonderful, caring and highly professional staff in a high quality and tranquil setting. We were very happy with the care that he received at Cluny Lodge.
Thank you for your kind words. It is very meaningful to us to know that both you and your relatives feel positively about the care provided and the professionalism of our staff.
My mother has lived at Cluny Lodge for 9 months. I am delighted with the care and support she receives there. The staff team are warm and friendly and so attentive. They respect her desire to be as independent as possible and make her own choices while also gently encouraging her to keep active and involved. They are also proactive about finding the best way to manage my mum's pain or confusion. I'm kept well informed and consulted so I feel I know what's going on with my mum, even when she cannot remember herself. I can visit her any time and whenever I go in there's a gentle buzz of residents, staff and relatives around the shared spaces, with various activities happening throughout the day. Mum herself often says how lovely everything and everyone is at Cluny Lodge and, now that she cannot live at home any more, it's the next best thing to home.
Thank you for this review. This can be such a difficult time but it is good to know that your mum's feels this is the 'next best thing' to home!
My friend reluctantly moved into Cluny Lodge after 18 months of engaging with carer providers in her own home. She has not looked back since making the move. The care she now receives has been transformational to her quality of life and her physical and mental health.
Thank you for taking the time to submit this review. We are aware that moving into care is a huge decision, but so pleased it has worked out so well for your friend, and for you to see these improvements to her wellbeing.
Going into Cluny Lodge gave her the chance to continue with her hobbies in her last year, and we are incredibly grateful for the care and comfort she received. It also gave us all a chance just to be with her, enjoying her company and not have to look after her. She used to say to me you don't worry about me anymore do you? And I would say no. She thought of everyone at Cluny as her friends. We cannot thank you enough and there are too many names to mention here - a heartfelt thank you.
Although moving to a care home can be a difficult step, we are pleased that this has helped you enjoy each other's company as well as worry less.
We will make sure the staff all get to see this to know what an impact they have had.
My mother spent her last ten months in Cluny Lodge where she was looked after with great care and compassion. Mum was a midwife and district nurse before she married and when I was a child she nursed both her mother-in law and her own father in their final illnesses, so she knew how caring should be done. She had nothing but praise for all the staff at Cluny Lodge and loved chatting to everyone she met there. What struck me on my visits was how much effort each member of staff put into getting to know my mother as an individual. It was only after Mum died that I heard about the physiotherapist urging another resident's visitor to take her baby granddaughter to visit my mother in her room, because the physiotherapist remembered how much my mother loved to see babies.
We so appreciate you taking the time to complete this review and are so pleased that your mum was able to still be herself during her time here at Cluny Lodge. The staff really do try to find out what matters to someone and then use this to enhance their stay, showing person-led care as much as possible.
From start to finish, the care mum received at Cluny Lodge has been totally brilliant. Most importantly the patience and kindness of the staff has been first class - in her latter days she mentioned all her friends being around her and by that she meant the people who looked after her. She knew from visiting older friends there that if a care home was ever necessary it was the one she wanted to go to, and it was her decision to stay on following respite care. Says it all.
Thank you for sending this review in. We are so pleased that your mum felt she was surrounded by her friends, both old and new, during her time with us. This is something we stive to do, as these meaningful connections are so key to us all.
My experience has been very good. The staff are exceptional in their care, kindness and respect. I have no complaints.
Thank you for taking the time to submit this review. We are pleased that you have had such a positive experience within the home. Your comment about the staff will be passed on to them.
Brilliant, just what my aunt needs at the age of 104! She is treated with dignity, staff often stop to chat, take care of her individual needs, and keep my (next of kin) informed of any medical or procedural events concerning her.
Food and drink is "dont know", but I am not given that option.
Thank you for taking the time to submit this review. We are pleased that your Aunt is being supported to live life so well, at such an amazing age!
Overall I feel very much at home in Cluny Lodge. Hard working staff remain cheerful and supportive. Communal areas are welcoming and attractively decorated. The gardens are a joy and beautifully maintained. Unfortunately the standard of meal preparation is inconsistent. Good quality ingredients are poorly cooked. Overall Cluny Lodge provides a comfortable, caring environment.
Thank you for this thoughtful review. We are pleased the staff are supportive and that the outside space is enjoyed - really important for vitamin D (when there is some sun)! As well as for general wellbeing too.We are sorry you are not as happy with the meals and will make this a priority to discus with the head chef.
We are extremely grateful for the extraordinary care our relative received at Cluny Lodge Care Home. Every member of the team showed immense compassion, patience and professionalism - qualities that never wavered, even on the most challenging days. They took the time to get to know her story, habits, likes and dislikes. The environment was always calm, clean, and welcoming. The rooms felt like home, and the food was of a fantastic quality and great choices. The activity programme (shared with us by email each week) was diverse and enjoyable. We had regular updates on her well-being. The medical care was exceptional, along with the exceptional emotional support to the resident, friends and family.
We are so pleased your relative and you feel we did get to know them, this is such an important part of our work and hopefully makes people realise that they are special and unique individuals.
From my first meeting with the manager, I felt assured that Mum would be valued and well cared for. It was clear that this home was about 'life'. Although mum was very low when she arrived, she responded to stimulation, attended activities and joined others in the beautiful dining room for meals. Her room was always clean and bright, staff were attentive and treated her with dignity and respect. A special wheelchair was provided when her own stopped being suitable. I appreciated that the staff passed on happy stories of Mum when we visited. At the end, staff were on hand making sure she was comfortable, pain-free and passed peacefully. We were always welcome and couldn't have asked for better care.
Thank you for sending in this heartfelt review, especially at a difficult time for you.It is lovely to know that the whole team were able to contribute to your mum's wellbeing and help to enhance your visits too. We will make sure your comments are shared widely with the staff, as it is so important that they know the difference they are making.
My mum moved into Cluny Lodge in April 2023 and was there for 2 years. The care and treatment she received the entire time she was there was first class especially during the last 2 months when she needed a lot more help. The staff were so kind, helpful and professional and treated my mum with dignity and respect. I was so lucky to get mum a place at Cluny (I knew it had a great reputation even before she moved in) and it gave her 2 more years of good quality life and happy memories. I will always be eternally grateful to the whole team at Cluny for this.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. We appreciate that when people move into care, this can be a difficult time, but so pleased that the home lived up to it's reputation and gave you and your mum more happy memories over the 2 years.
They treat everyone with respect and I really am so grateful for the care they give my father every day.
Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We are always mindful that moving in to a care home is a big step, and we are pleased you have felt well supported by the staff here.
My mother moved from home to Cluny Lodge early in 2022. She had a non severe but progressive dementia. The care and treatment she received at Cluny Lodge was exceptional from start to finish. All aspects of maintenance and care are first class. Her room was beautifully decorated, spacious and always spotlessly clean. The standard of medical and general care was gentle and thorough. I honestly cannot think of a single time when I felt anything wasn't dealt with perfectly. They staff were proactive in including the family if they had any concerns and they supported us sensitively when my mother finally left us on her 95th birthday.
I have been extremely impressed with the exceptional care that my mother receives in this home. The staff and management are extremely professional, friendly and caring. My mother has settled easily and often admires her surroundings. The staff are excellent at keeping my mother comfortable and go out of their way to try to meet her every need whether it is trying out equipment, adjusting her diet or medication. The new namaste sessions which involves massages, gentle music and calming scents have been very beneficial for my mother. They employ their own nutritionists and physiotherapists which means these needs are easily met in-house. There is always different staff popping in for a friendly chat or just making sure she is ok. The manager is very open and friendly and is very proactive at looking for any possible improvements. She is very visible within the home and knows each resident. I am kept very well informed about my mother's health and feel we are all part of one big family.
We are so pleased that your experience has been so positive. We are keen to hear from people involved in the service we provide, to know how else we can develop. One of these ways has been Namaste Care, so we are delighted to hear these have been beneficial too.
From Day 1, the level of care, attention and hospitality my father received was first rate.
That despite dad arriving in February 2021 when COVID was in full swing.
Sadly, dad passed away after a short illness in September this year. 7-8 staff attended dad's funeral which says a lot. He had been resident in Cluny for 3 and a half years.
It's hard to single out anybody but special mentions are due to the Unit Manager; Staff Nurses; and 4 other staff members in particular. Also the Entertainment Team; the minibus driver; and a staff member on reception; - and all the Cluny Kitchen staff (dad loved his food!).
All under the watchful eye of the inimitable, the Group Care Home Manager.
Thank you for everything from all the family.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this lovely review. It is so good to know that you feel Cluny Lodge was the right place for your father and we were privileged to know him. We are grateful that you have mentioned so many different staff too - it really does take a team to support those who live here, and their families. Something the staff do so well.
From the day she moved in to Cluny Lodge, every member of staff took time to get to know her well and treated her with dignity, respect and above all, care of the highest quality. She was always very happy living there and when the time came for end of life care the staff were absolutely fantastic.
Thank you all so much for looking after a dear old lady so very well.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. It is so good to know that, although things do not work out as your friend wished, she was still able to be happy living at Cluny Lodge. It is a privilege to do what we do.
My Dad was a resident in Cluny Lodge Care Home for nearly 3 years until 2012 and my Mum for over 1 year until 2024. Both were looked after exceptionally well and so were my family and me. I would have no hesitation in recommending Cluny Lodge to anyone needing or having relatives needing extra care. I would find it very difficult to find anywhere better than Cluny Lodge.
Thank you so much for sending this review, and at such a difficult time, we do appreciate it and we will make sure the staff get to read the kind words you have written. We are pleased that we have been able to support you and your family during these times.
We were as a family worried my Dad would not adjust to being in a care home!
However, to our surprise, he loves it and is still there 6 months on and very settled.
The nurses and staff are fantastic with my Dad and he is enjoying all the attention! There are lots of activities to keep his mind busy and again the staff are so attentive to all the residents individually.
My Dad loves music so they encourage him to play his mouth organ, he loves to sing and has watched the nurses and carers all sing along with him.
It's a home from home and just like one big family.
The staff are all amazing and with my Mum too who visits most days.
The cleanliness and hygiene are impeccable.
Can't praise Cluny Lodge high enough its just excellent.
We are so pleased that this huge decision for you all as a family, is working well. Music is a great thing and one we are committed to using more within both of our homes. Many thanks for taking the time to put this review in.

Meet the Team (7)

With a career spanning over two decades at Elder Homes, I have cultivated a diverse skill set and extensive knowledge in the realm of senior care management. My educational foundation, coupled with hands-on expertise, has propelled me from my initial role as a Unit Manager to my current position as the Group Care Home Manager overseeing both Cluny Lodge and Chamberlain Care homes.
As the Group Care Home Manager, I am deeply committed to upholding the highest standards of care and support, fostering a homely and welcoming environment for residents. Leveraging my wealth of experience, I lead a dedicated team to ensure an unparalleled level of service that goes beyond expectations.
Beyond the professional sphere, I enjoy reading, I am a passionate traveller, and I cherish moments spent with loved ones. These personal pursuits enrich my life and contribute to a holistic perspective that I bring to my role as a caretaker and manager.

As General Manager I have a great opportunity to work with all the different teams at Elder Homes, bringing previous experience of process improvements and supporting the Digital Journey all care homes now must take. Moving into the care sector has been a very rewarding experience and one I continue to look forward to for many more years.
Away from work I love spending time with my wife, 3 kids and dog.

I started as a newly qualified nurse in Elder Homes, the Balmoral suite. Over the years, I have worked my way up to unit manager and now work in the Argyll Unit. I studied adult nursing and found my passion working with older adults. In my free time, I enjoy both watching and attending rugby matches and following Scotland at Murrayfield. I am hoping to do the Lions tour of New Zealand in 2029. I have grand plans to do a world cruise when I retire. I enjoy movies and going to the cinema. I live with my partner, and we have a crazy cat called Luna. My nieces and nephews mean the world to me, and I love being the aunt who gets to spoil them with sugar and toys.

In charge of a 34-bed unit
I’ve been a qualified RGN for 21 years and have worked for Elder Homes Ltd for over 20 years now, having originally started in the care sector working in Cluny Lodge as a care assistant in 1995.

Part of my role is to support staff from their induction and throughout their progress within Elder Homes. This includes developing and delivering relevant training around all subjects, with a particular focus on dementia and end of life care. It is a privilege to watch staff grow in knowledge and confidence and know that this will help continue to deliver the best quality care to those we support. Within my role I also support family members and students, during their time connected to Elder Homes.
Growing up I always wanted to be a nurse or a teacher – I now get to do both! I trained as a nurse in the West Midlands, a long time ago, then moved up to Edinburgh in 1992, where I ‘fell into’ care home nursing but realised I loved it.
We recently moved out of Edinburgh and I am loving exploring Midlothian with my 2 year old dog, Bonnie

I’ve been working for Elder Homes LTD since 2012, starting as a Domestic Assistant and now flourishing as Head of Hotel Services. The genuine joy derived from this work is why I continue to thrive in this environment.

I moved to Edinburgh in 2003 and I started working for Elder Homes in September that year. During my time with the Company, I worked both in Chamberlain and Cluny Lodge but Chamberlain was my first Home and I happily returned here to take over as Unit Manager in December 2022.
