The care home was very helpful in a difficult situation Mum did not want to go into a carehome and was in a state of shock when she got there. Her arrival could have been managed a little more sensitively. Several staff breezed in to say welcome which she wasn't prepared for. She had a nice room
with a lovely view of the trees, which helped as she didn't really want to leave her room.
She said she wasn't happy there and was desperate to leave but I don't know why. She suffers from memory loss so she couldn't explain. It is possible that she didn't like men attending to her. This should be a specific question when a new resident arrives.
The manager was extremely helpful throughout the stay. I did not deal with any other staff so that it is a lot to ask of the manager. She helped me move Mum after respite to another Runwood home, near my home.
Admin was all sorted on the day of arrival, including getting a daily newspaper.
Meals and cutlery were too big
Reply from Hira Butt, Home Manager at Leawood ManorThank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We truly appreciate your honesty, especially during what we understand was a very emotional and challenging time for both you and your mum.

We are pleased to hear that you found the manager supportive throughout your mum's stay and that aspects such as her room and the surrounding environment brought some comfort. Creating a welcoming and reassuring setting is very important to us.

We are, however, sorry to hear that your mum's arrival felt overwhelming. We understand how important those first impressions are, particularly for someone adjusting to a new environment, and your feedback regarding a more sensitive and gradual welcome is noted. We will reflect on this to ensure future admissions are approached in a calmer and more personalised way.

My 96 year old Mum came to this care home 10 days ago it was a hard decision for all the family.. but it was the right decision. The care home is beautiful almost like a 5 star hotel, you walk in and immediately it feels like a safe and loving environment. The staff are amazing, kind gentle and welcoming.
I was and my family were very impressed . Took Mum a couple of days to adjust but she is very happy at Leawood Manor . Would definitely recommend it 5 star!!! Thankyou Hera and staff for all your hard work and Support, we really appreciate it .

My mother spent 2 weeks at Leawood Manor for respite having been discharged from hospital after having a fall. Sadly, the only room available was on the upper floor, usually designated for those suffering from dementia. Although this did not affect the care she received, I think she would have been
more at ease on the ground floor. This aside, the care, the facilities and the staff are second to none. And if necessary, I know she would be more than happy to return (on the ground floor)
Reply from Hira Butt, Home Manager at Leawood ManorThank you for taking the time to leave such thoughtful feedback regarding your mother's respite stay at Leawood Manor. We are so pleased to hear that you were happy with the care, facilities and support provided by our team during her stay with us.

We completely understand your comments regarding the room location and appreciate your honest feedback. Whilst we always try our very best to accommodate preferences, availability can sometimes be limited at short notice following hospital discharges. However, we are pleased to hear this did not impact the quality of care your mother received.

It is lovely to know that despite this, your mother felt comfortable and would be happy to return in the future. Your kind words about our staff and home truly mean a great deal to us. Thank you again for your recommendation and support.

We moved my father (94 years old) into Leawood Manor mid February following a fall and hospital stay from which he needed more dedicated support than he could get from standard home visits. From day 1, the staff were welcoming and implemented the agreed level of care was outlined in the agreed care
plan. The manager is fully engaged in the wellbeing of residents and relatives any issues or changes needed quickly. Sadly my father passed away in March and we were treated professionally and with dignity throughout.
Reply from Hira Butt, Home Manager at Leawood ManorThank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

My mother went into Leawood Manor for 16 days respite owing to the fact that I was on holiday and she had been unwell with shingles. This was the first experience of a care home for my mother and unfortunately it wasn't a good experience. She does not suffer from memory issues but the bed available
to her was on a corridor with dementia patients so she did not enjoy eating in the dining room. As she was in pain she didn't appreciate the food. The manager was excellent in every way, responding immediately to any concerns and actioning instructions, she was most personable and totally professional.
Reply from Hira Butt, Home Manager at Leawood ManorThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am truly sorry to hear that your mother's respite stay did not meet expectations, especially as this was her first experience of a care home and she was already unwell with shingles.
We understand how important comfort, environment and dining experience are, particularly when someone is in pain, and I am sorry that this impacted her stay. Your feedback has been noted and will be used to review how we support residents during short-term stays to ensure a more suitable and comfortable experience.
I would also like to thank you for your kind words about my support during this time - it is greatly appreciated. Please be assured that we always aim to respond quickly and provide the best possible care.

Mum has now been at Leawood Manor for 4 months. It has took a little while but she is now settling in and loves all the carers and staff there. Her health has improved a lot because of the care, good food and constant company she gets. There are plenty of activities, varied to suit all needs and Mum

Mum has been a resident of Leawood Manor for nearly two years. Friends recommended it and we knew it had a good reputation. It wasn't a smooth introduction to Leawood as mum had a lot of health issues and took a while to fully settle.
Now, under the new manager, she seems so much happier and feels
very much at home. She loves her ground floor room and access to the garden, very much at the centre of activities. She is a supporter of the Ambassador system and feels that residents are listened to, along with the monthly meetings.
I too, appreciate the family meetings, the weekly emails and general accessibility of the staff. Resident of the day, after initial hiccups, has been an excellent idea. It was good to revisit mum's care plan recently which I hadn't seen since she moved in. The events programme has been good and is now easily accessible, so that relatives can support and encourage their loved ones. The introduction of a personal history for each resident is an excellent idea.

Leawood Manor provides high quality care for my friend. It is well managed and the staff are friendly and professional and work hard to keep everyone happy. There's a good standard of hygiene and the accommodation is spacious, comfortable and modern. She enjoys her meals and all her dietary needs are

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.664 for Leawood Manor is calculated as follows: ( (255 Excellents x 5) + (55 Goods x 4) + (28 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 339 Ratings = 4.664
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Leawood Manor is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 79 registered maximum number of service users is 15.8, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

Hi, I’m Hira, and I’m so happy to introduce myself as the new Home Manager here at Leawood Manor.

I’ve worked in care for over 12 years, across a range of settings, and have spent the last couple of years in management. I’ve been with Runwood Homes for just under two years, and it’s been a great journey so far. Stepping into this new role at Leawood is something I feel both proud and excited about.

Caring for others has always been a big part of who I am. I grew up surrounded by older relatives whose stories and wisdom made a lasting impact on me. That’s where my passion for person-centred care comes from, making sure people feel truly known, respected, and supported in a way that suits them and their life story.

Outside of work, I’m a mum to two lovely boys who keep me busy! I enjoy cooking, trying out new recipes, and making memories on family holidays. I’m very family-oriented, and I like to bring that same warmth into the home, making sure our residents feel like part of one big extended family.

Leawood Manor already has a lovely feel to it, and my aim is to build on that. I want to bring in fresh energy, support the team in doing their best work, and help make every day a positive experience for our residents. Whether that’s through thoughtful changes, new activities, or simply creating more moments of connection and joy, I’m here to make a difference.

I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone, residents, families, staff, and the local community. My door is always open for a chat!

Job Title: Lifestyle Coordinator Joined: 2019

Hi, I’m Sue, and I’ve been a Lifestyle Coordinator at Leawood Manor for the past 5 years. I feel very privileged to do this role and the rewards are immense.

I like to adopt a person-centred approach to well-being, and it’s important for me to tailor the activities around each individual resident's interests and needs.

Our diverse activities program focuses on their emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and physical needs and enables residents to carry on with hobbies and interests they undertook prior to coming to Leawood as well as experiencing a few new ones along the way! all-important to promote independence and self-worth
Behind the scenes, we are always looking at organising events, encouraging friendship groups, and dementia cafes, and being involved in the local community.

My role goes far beyond organising activities; it’s about empowerment and offering support to allow residents to lead the life they wish to lead.

My name is Gary. After spending 13 years in hotel and restaurant catering, I transitioned to the care sector with a clear purpose: to make a positive impact on food services within the care industry. Building strong, personal relationships with our residents has been a cornerstone of my approach, allowing me to deliver a person-centred service and tailor menus that reflect their individual preferences and needs.

The daily interactions with residents bring me immense satisfaction, and I’m continually inspired by the impact I can make in their lives.
