I've been very impressed with the dedication and care of the staff at Leawood Manor. They have taken time to get to know my father well and have put lots of small methods in place to help him settle and cope with his dementia. The carers are genuinely friendly towards him and work hard to build a positive
and happy atmosphere.

My parents have been at Leawood Manor for just over a year. They seem to be quite happy and very well looked after. All of the staff I have met are caring and supportive and happy to do what it takes to enrich the lives of all of the residents, the home is well maintained and bright and welcoming.
I
would be happy to recommend Leawood Manor.

My 84-year-old Mum recently had a two weeks Respite stay at Leawood Manor and during this time received very good care. Despite a reluctance to go initially on Mum's part she was relaxed in the home and seemed to enjoy the company/attention of the caring staff and other residents. The Manager was very
helpful in sorting a Respite room at short notice. He was very reassuring to us as a family given our concerns about Mum settling with this being her first stay.
Leawood Manor is an excellent 5-star care home facility and we would definitely recommend it to others and will be hopefully using it again for future Respite stays.
Thank you to everyone at Leawood Manor for making a stressful time/situation every success.

Leawood Manor has far exceeded our expectations. So wonderful. Although Mum has only been at Leawood Manor a few weeks she has settled very well, thanks to the marvellous and personalised attention she has received from all the staff and management. They have all been such good listeners and worked
tirelessly to keep her busy, active and interested, from helping in the kitchen to showing other residents how to knit.

My mother was a resident at Leawood Manor for over 4 years. She was cared for my an extremely dedicated team of staff. This includes all departments, not just the care staff. Nothing was too much trouble for any staff member. If my mother needed care/help/assistance in any matter this was provided without
a problem. I found the atmosphere to be very relaxed with my mother never being under any pressure. Meal times were never a problem with my mother happy to share a table with three other residents.

My mother recently enjoyed her 88th birthday in the home, primarily due to the efforts of the staff who went to extreme lengths to ensure it was a lovely, family-focused day. On the day of her birthday, a table was set in a private area and the delicious meal was served by the assistant chef. Nothing
was too much trouble and fond memories were made. The head chef also changed his day off to be present at an organised tea party - absolutely amazing care and attention.

My husband has been a resident for 16 months. Mostly the care has been good, though we had a rough few weeks to start as staff seemed to have no training or understand his condition. He had a severe stroke and could not transfer as he had to be hoisted from the bed to chair. The home manager initiated
an hourly observation record so that attention was brought to staff re the need to have his bell within reach etc, etc. Since then most staff are very efficient and handle him very well. The food is a slight problem.

Mum has received excellent care since moving into Leawood Manor. She was needing more help and assistance with daily life and wanted to be nearer her family. She has settled well and made some new friends. The activities are thoughtfully planned and Mum has been encouraged to join in. The staff are

My granny is 105 years old and has been in the home for five years. I cannot speak enough about all the staff who work at the home. They are always happy and cheerful despite their difficult job. My Granny is very happy and the staff go beyond what I would expect when caring for her. The home is always
spotless and the food is very good.
Thank you.

I would like to thank all staff in Leawood Manor for the care and support they are giving my granddad since he has arrived, they really listened to all our concerns and have made us feel like he is safe and truly being cared for. This home is absolutely fantastic, to sit and watch how the staff all
interact with the residents and my granddad, getting them laughing, smiling, singing, moving to music (even one dancing) and most of all keeping the mood light and upbeat is great. The staff really do know their residents and its lovely to see how much they care and put their all into their jobs. The home is very clean and well kept.

My mother spent the last eight months of her life with advanced dementia, aged 96, in Leawood after it became unsafe for her to live independently even with carers. She had her own furnished en-suite room with a hospital type bed (electronic controls). She was kept warm, comfortable and clean despite
having continence problems and being unable to wash or clean herself. Her clothes were kept clean and returned accurately. The staff did their very best to keep her medicated, fed and hydrated, though she frequently refused food, drink and medication. The staff often had to feed her by hand. The care staff treated her with kindness, affection and respect. She was taken to the dining room for meals every day which was socially beneficial and spent time in the lounges, well looked after even though she did not really understand her surroundings. The activities advertised were not provided consistently owing to the difficulty in recruiting and keeping activities staff.

I have been in and out of Leawood for three years and have always found it a pleasant, cheerful place. I love the way the walls are decorated to make them interesting.
Everything is clean and well cared for as far as I can see.
The carers are responsible and warm in their behaviour. I have observed
that the correct safety equipment is used for moving residents and that doors have appropriate security codes in use.
Visitors are allowed access to family members in a friendly relaxed style.

Leawood is a well run, clean and pleasant care home.
The staff are very nice. Food always looks and smells good. An area for improvement would be to provide more stimulating activities. My mother needs constant activity, especially at the weekends when there is no coordination there. It can be boring

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.659)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.659) out of 10 for Leawood Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.709 for Leawood Manor is calculated as follows: ( (170 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (17 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 213 Ratings = 4.709
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Leawood Manor is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 79 registered maximum number of service users is 15.8, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

Hi, I’m Hira, and I’m so happy to introduce myself as the new Home Manager here at Leawood Manor.

I’ve worked in care for over 12 years, across a range of settings, and have spent the last couple of years in management. I’ve been with Runwood Homes for just under two years, and it’s been a great journey so far. Stepping into this new role at Leawood is something I feel both proud and excited about.

Caring for others has always been a big part of who I am. I grew up surrounded by older relatives whose stories and wisdom made a lasting impact on me. That’s where my passion for person-centred care comes from, making sure people feel truly known, respected, and supported in a way that suits them and their life story.

Outside of work, I’m a mum to two lovely boys who keep me busy! I enjoy cooking, trying out new recipes, and making memories on family holidays. I’m very family-oriented, and I like to bring that same warmth into the home, making sure our residents feel like part of one big extended family.

Leawood Manor already has a lovely feel to it, and my aim is to build on that. I want to bring in fresh energy, support the team in doing their best work, and help make every day a positive experience for our residents. Whether that’s through thoughtful changes, new activities, or simply creating more moments of connection and joy, I’m here to make a difference.

I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone, residents, families, staff, and the local community. My door is always open for a chat!

Job Title: Lifestyle Coordinator Joined: 2019

Hi, I’m Sue, and I’ve been a Lifestyle Coordinator at Leawood Manor for the past 5 years. I feel very privileged to do this role and the rewards are immense.

I like to adopt a person-centred approach to well-being, and it’s important for me to tailor the activities around each individual resident's interests and needs.

Our diverse activities program focuses on their emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and physical needs and enables residents to carry on with hobbies and interests they undertook prior to coming to Leawood as well as experiencing a few new ones along the way! all-important to promote independence and self-worth
Behind the scenes, we are always looking at organising events, encouraging friendship groups, and dementia cafes, and being involved in the local community.

My role goes far beyond organising activities; it’s about empowerment and offering support to allow residents to lead the life they wish to lead.

Gary

Job Title: Kitchen Services Manager Joined: 2011

My name is Gary. After spending 13 years in hotel and restaurant catering, I transitioned to the care sector with a clear purpose: to make a positive impact on food services within the care industry. Since joining Leawood Manor, I’ve been proud to play a key role in driving this change, earning numerous awards and accolades along the way.

Building strong, personal relationships with our residents has been a cornerstone of my approach, allowing me to deliver a person-centred service and tailor menus that reflect their individual preferences and needs.

The daily interactions with residents bring me immense satisfaction, and I’m continually inspired by the impact I can make in their lives.

I have no regrets about my career shift, and I’m motivated every day by the rewarding work I do. I look forward to continuing to serve our residents and contributing to the high standards we have set at Leawood Manor for many years to come.
