Our 95-year-old mum has found the transition to living in a care home - very traumatic. The last 5 1/2 months have been extremely stressful for her and myself, the family and your staff. During this difficult period, we have been impressed by the care team with their patience, kindness and willingness
to help mum. Her room "the flat" is always clean tidy and spotless giving off a positive mood.

The food is fantastic, smells good and is presented well. There is always a choice of meals and puddings. Although mum does not participate in any of the activities eg entertainment, crafts, music, gardening. They create a feeling of community, belonging and friendship for all residents. Our family and my mother really appreciate all the help given to us by the management and staff.

We realise this is a demanding occupation at the best of times. We always feel confident that mum is being treated well and that she is safe and secure in a care home that offers a high degree of quality and performance.

Thank you and well done.

Reply from Leona Richardson, Home Manager at Leawood ManorOn behalf of us at Leawood Manor, we thank you so much for taking the time to complete this review of our home. It can indeed at times be a demanding occupation, however evidencing that we are achieving our goals in contributing to our resident’s quality of life outweighs that greatly. We are very appreciative of this feedback, and I look forward to sharing this with the team.

My mum has just had two weeks of respite at Leawood Manor. She looked well when I collected her and was walking better than before, so obviously has been well cared for. The home is very clean, with a calm, pleasant feel about it. Visitors are welcome. I was impressed by how polite the staff were. The
manager is a very pleasant, calm and professional man who obviously cares about the residents and staff. I wasn't expecting my mum to be overjoyed with her stay as she is very reluctant about going into care, but she had nothing negative to say and admitted everyone was very kind and helpful, so thank you.

Our father was very independant and so was a hard decision for him and us to move him to a care home. Once there, the care he received was excellent with all the staff being friendly, caring, compassionate and above all professional. Although his stay was relatively short we were greatly comforted by
the fact Dad was being extremely well cared for.

Following a fall at his home, my father moved into Leawood Manor Care Home for two weeks of respite care and stayed on until his passing away. Although there for only two months, the staff at the home very quickly got to know him and cared for him with great love and respect. They were also very welcoming
to me and the rest of Dad's family.
The accommodation was clean and bright, the food very much to my father's liking and there were always plenty of activities to join in with, particularly over the Christmas period. As Dad's health deteriorated, the staff looked after his medical needs very attentively and were quick to contact the family and involve us in discussions whenever required.
I take great heart from the knowledge that Dad's final days were spent in such a loving and caring environment as Leawood Manor and that his passing was as peaceful as possible.
Reply from Zimran Alam, Home Manager at Leawood ManorHi Neil, thank you for your kind words. Mum had (almost) 3 happy years at Leawood Manor after moving there after a broken hip. She settled in well, initially for respite, then agreed to stay permanently. She had an ideal balance of privacy in her own room, plus opportunities to mix with others. Staff were always friendly and available to
help, and management were good at addressing any concerns if raised. Mum's main carer was good at liaising when any medical or care issues arose. The setting is quiet and semi-rural with nice grounds, good food and clean and well-decorated throughout. During the Covid times staff were helpful with garden visits, social media portal calls etc. The only minor quibble is that sometimes she would be wearing clothing that wasn't her own, also shoes sometimes went missing. I would highly recommend this care home, we liked the atmosphere as soon as we walked in.
Reply from Zimran Alam, Home Manager at Leawood ManorWe appreciate your kind review. Our staff always seeks the best possible care we can for our residents, and we are very thankful for your thoughtful words for our home. Kind regards

My mum moved to Leawood after a short time in another local residential home where she was struggling to settle in. Straight away, the staff at Leawood were so engaging and quickly became aware of the support that Mum needed to reduce her anxiety and confusion. They would encourage and support her to
join in the activities they knew she would enjoy and also helped her form friendship groups which were so important, as Mum wasn't a confident mixer.
Mum was at Leawood until she passed earlier this month, and I can honestly say that whilst it is a really difficult decision to make to move a loved one into residential care, Leawood did everything they could to make this feel like home. Right up until the end, they were kind, considerate, respectful and caring to both my mother and my family.

Our mum went into Leawood Manor on the 2nd of December and as soon as we walked in we got that really warm homely feeling. The staff, in my opinion, went way above and beyond to make Mum feel very very welcome and could feel the love and affection coming from the whole team, from the manager to the
support staff. The team leaders again in my opinion showed true commitment to looking after all the residents with wholehearted compassion and love. Mum was only there 12 days before she passed at 01:50am this morning but we as a family couldn't fault the professionalism and compassion they showed towards her in her final hours. As sad and upsetting for us to lose our mum, the whole team from the manager to the tea ladies were so compassionate towards us and feeling the grief we are suffering. We would highly, highly recommend Leawood Manor to any family that needs total care and love for their loved ones in their time of need. Thank you so much for all you've done for us.

My mum needed to move to a care home following two quick breaks in succession - both requiring hospital stays of several weeks. The manager was extremely understanding and caring. Mum was offered a place that could have been for just recovery or longer if she wasn't able to cope on her own. She has
been there coming up for a year now. The staff are very helpful and caring and I am confident she is being extremely well looked after. They are keen to look after my mum's mental health as well as her physical health. My mum's friends who have visited have also commented on how good the home is (they have visited others) and how kind and friendly the staff are.

Mum urgently needed respite care in mid-October after a fall. I contacted the manager at Leawood Manor on Friday evening and he arranged to have a lovely, bright and spacious room ready for her to take up the following Monday. Very sadly, Mum died early in November, but I could not be more thankful
that during her last few weeks, she was cared for with great kindness and thoughtfulness by all the staff at Leawood Manor. I felt completely confident that Mum, who was also living with dementia, was safe, secure and well-looked after, which meant I was able to spend lots of time with her, instead of worrying about anything else.

My Dad moved to Leawood Manor this year after deciding as a family that he was no longer safe to live independently at home. Dad has settled in well and has a good sized room with an en suite and private patio with views of the lovely rear gardens. Dad gets on well with the staff at Leawood Manor and
has formed some strong friendships - a testament to the time and attention all of the care team give to the residents. The food is of good quality with a daily changing menu which is displayed in the corridors. There are lots of activities and things to do throughout the week thanks to the activities team, with residents free to take part in as much or as little as they like. The home is clean throughout, has a modern yet homely decor and is well maintained. As a family member, I find all of the staff to be approachable, friendly and willing to help with anything at any time - from management through to support staff.

We moved our mum to Leawood Manor to be closer to both of her sons. The care she received seemed very good, and the fact that there was a constant supply of staff was good. Mum was probably hard work, but she loved her room and made friends with many of the staff. Covid didn't help.

This is a really lovely home which gave my mother a great standard of care in the two years she lived there. The staff are loving and supportive towards the residents and are equally welcoming to relatives. The management team, care staff, cleaning, catering and admin teams are friendly, flexible, and
responsive. Rooms are spacious, food is good, and the communal areas are well decorated. Activities for those residents who are able to engage are creative and innovative. We never regretted our decision to entrust mum to Leawood. Highly recommended.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.659)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.659) out of 10 for Leawood Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.709 for Leawood Manor is calculated as follows: ( (170 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (17 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 213 Ratings = 4.709
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Leawood Manor is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 79 registered maximum number of service users is 15.8, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

Hi, I’m Hira, and I’m so happy to introduce myself as the new Home Manager here at Leawood Manor.

I’ve worked in care for over 12 years, across a range of settings, and have spent the last couple of years in management. I’ve been with Runwood Homes for just under two years, and it’s been a great journey so far. Stepping into this new role at Leawood is something I feel both proud and excited about.

Caring for others has always been a big part of who I am. I grew up surrounded by older relatives whose stories and wisdom made a lasting impact on me. That’s where my passion for person-centred care comes from, making sure people feel truly known, respected, and supported in a way that suits them and their life story.

Outside of work, I’m a mum to two lovely boys who keep me busy! I enjoy cooking, trying out new recipes, and making memories on family holidays. I’m very family-oriented, and I like to bring that same warmth into the home, making sure our residents feel like part of one big extended family.

Leawood Manor already has a lovely feel to it, and my aim is to build on that. I want to bring in fresh energy, support the team in doing their best work, and help make every day a positive experience for our residents. Whether that’s through thoughtful changes, new activities, or simply creating more moments of connection and joy, I’m here to make a difference.

I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone, residents, families, staff, and the local community. My door is always open for a chat!

Hi, I’m Sue, and I’ve been a Lifestyle Coordinator at Leawood Manor for the past 5 years. I feel very privileged to do this role and the rewards are immense.

I like to adopt a person-centred approach to well-being, and it’s important for me to tailor the activities around each individual resident's interests and needs.

Our diverse activities program focuses on their emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and physical needs and enables residents to carry on with hobbies and interests they undertook prior to coming to Leawood as well as experiencing a few new ones along the way! all-important to promote independence and self-worth
Behind the scenes, we are always looking at organising events, encouraging friendship groups, and dementia cafes, and being involved in the local community.

My role goes far beyond organising activities; it’s about empowerment and offering support to allow residents to lead the life they wish to lead.
