My uncle and his late partner first came to Rathmore House early 2023. Whilst I live in Australia since that date I have visited UK six times and Rathmore House multiple times each visit. I continue to be thoroughly impressed by the level of care afforded and believe my uncle couldn't be in better
care.
Reply from Chrissie Guest, Care Co-ordinator at Rathmore HouseThank you - we appreciate you taking the time to leave us such a lovely review. Rathmore House

Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
Rathmore is a small care home, so staff and residents get to know each other. Where I've given 4 stars, it's because there may be room for improvement, not because I have any particular criticism. I have heard some criticism of the food. I wish there were more activities outside the home, but I know
that's difficult. Perhaps there should be more staff.
Reply from Chrissie Guest, Care Co-ordinator at Rathmore HouseThank you for your valuable feedback. We are aware there were some issues with the food which we have taken steps to resolve by working with our chefs to introduce new menus which our residents seem to be enjoying. In terms of activities we are looking to introduce some new options to meet the various needs and interests of our residents and increase the frequency of those sessions they really enjoy. Over the summer a number of outings were arranged, and we have plans for an upcoming Christmas trip. But were also always happy to get input from family and loved ones with any suggestions for new activities or days out so please reach out to the home if you have any ideas. Thank you for taking the time to write a review, as I said we really do appreciate all feedback as this helps us to improve.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
With just 20 residents, Rathmore House has a kindly but relaxed and unrestrictive atmosphere. The layout is open and welcoming, the decor unpretentious , and much of the original Victorian building and garden is unchanged. Meals are often excellent, cooked on site, and if weather invites we are able
to eat in the garden. Visitors can stay as long as they like and I greatly appreciate being allowed to be as involved as I wish in my mother's day. Rathmore House is very well located for short outings, such as in a wheelchair. It's about 15 minutes walk from beautiful park. The area itself provides an interesting saunter, being lined with trees and fascinating Victorian mansions and leading to a pleasant little park behind the theatre.
Most important of all, Rathmore House has some lovely, caring members of staff, whose warmth, kindness and sense of humour has kept this particular family member's head above water on frequent occasions!
Reply from Chrissie Guest, Care Co-ordinator at Rathmore HouseThank you for taking the time to provide such lovely feedback. We are very proud of our beautiful home and the team work hard to make sure it is a warm, homely and friendly environment for everyone who lives there. It is also great to hear that our team have been able to be supportive to you when needed and I will make sure that your feedback is passed on to them so they receive the acknowledgement they deserve. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review - it is really appreciated.

As soon as your enter Homemead it feels like a home where I am delighted my wife is cared for by a team who all take "care" as their main aim. They all welcome me every time I visit and they all connect with my wife with either just a smile or a cuddle or a kiss to make her feel she belongs and has
anew home where she is looked after.
All the staff are so considerate of her needs. My wife reacts to their attention with a smile. She has no memory of her life before being in Homemead, but I am confident that she is being cared for by a team who all work so hard to make her as welcome and comfortable as possible.
Reply from Chrissie Guest, Care Co-ordinator at HomemeadThank you so much for your kind feedback. My mother entered the care home early May this year, which is a very sad time for families, however she has settled in and is clearly benefiting from the services provided. The staff are hero's here, catering for all their needs, even before they require them.
The home is like one big family (yes it
has it's characters) and everyone is included, entertainment provided and well received by the residents, there are no set visiting times which makes it easy for us to staffer times.
My wife and I enjoy visiting the home and have made friends with the residents who stay there, cannot praise the home and staff enough.
Reply from Chrissie Guest, Care Co-ordinator at HomemeadWe are so pleased to hear that your Mum has settled well at Homemead. The team work so hard to make it a welcoming, homely and stimulating environment for all residents and so feedback like yours is truly appreciated as it shows this is paying off. I will make sure to pass your feedback on and thank you for taking the time to leave us a review.

I am so happy I found this gem of a care home, it's a beautiful house. The staff are so kind, caring, compassionate, dedicated and the senior staff are very competent and knowledgeable they have been wonderful helping with settling in and happy to help with any questions/query. The food is very good
and nutritious with a good variety. It's very homely like home from home and with only 26 rooms it's not too overwhelming for the residents.
The staff are very polite always smiling and very attentive, Homemead was a lucky find.

Cecil Court

from Lee H (Son of Resident) published on 22 May 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Cecil Court provided the most caring environment that my mother, and we her family, could have hoped for. The management and team of carers who worked with and looked after her could not have been more attuned to her needs. They engaged with her at all times, went out of their way to ensure she had
the attention she needed and always treated her with dignity. She remained alert at all times and appreciated what they did for her. I/we cannot thank the staff enough.

PS As she was on a liquid diet the food rating below is irrelevant, but it would be churlish to give a low rating as that would lower the overall figure - and the chips were always delicious! The lift being out of commission (now fixed) and the lack of showers (Mum always wanted a shower) are the reasons for the 4 stars for Facilities.

Reply from Chrissie Guest, Care Co-ordinator at Cecil CourtThank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review and I will be sure to pass your feedback and thanks on to the team at Cecil Court. We also appreciate your additional feedback about the ratings as this kind of detailed information is so helpful for us in understanding any issues and ways in which we could improve - so thank you!

Choosing a home for a loved one is hard. Compton Lodge scores top marks on what matters - my friend loves the staff who are fantastic and stay for years (a great sign of a good employer); he has a lovely room where visitors can meet as well as access to several day rooms - not just one. The garden is
glorious especially in sunshine. He is well cared for in every possible way, with lots of visits from staff, good meals and regular tea and cake. Home from Home. And the staff team are kindness itself to those of us responsible for the residents.

Twenty years ago my mother arrived at Compton Lodge from Nottingham where she had been living alone approaching her 90th birthday and increasingly anxious and dependent.
She was excited to move and be bear to her family especially a new great granddaughter with whom she was to spend many happy hours
and who was to edit the CL Weekly Newsletter during covid, and came to the Summer Fair last year.
Compton Lodge not only cared for my mother but welcomed our family as members of this warm community. And since she passed has enabled us to enjoy our memories and keep in touch with old friends as members of the Friends and Relatives Group. Thankyou!!!

Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
My partner has been a resident at Compton lodge since November 2022. Unlike clinical nursing homes, Compton Lodge feels like a real home - set in a beautiful Edwardian house with a large, well-maintained garden that residents can enjoy year-round.
The staff are dedicated, patient and compassionate
and the managers are incredibly accommodating, always available to address concerns and quick to take action. Medical issues are promptly addressed, with staff liaising with the necessary professionals and keeping families fully informed.
With three talented chefs on rotation, residents enjoy fresh, high quality meals in a dining room that has the feel of a restaurant. There is a strong focus on engagement and activity, with a particular emphasis on musical events and birthdays are marked by a homemade cake shared among residents, adding to the sense of community.
While the facilities and environment are lovely, it is the dedication of the staff that makes this home exceptional.

My mother-in-law was struggling to look after her rural home and Cecil Court was the perfect place for her to have a two-week respite. The team were super helpful in arranging a tricky transition and very welcoming to her. We weren't sure if it would be a permanent move and in fact she decided to give
independent living another try, albeit in a smaller flat closer to her family. Having her cocooned in Cecil Court during these difficult discussions was a godsend and there was a lot of understanding and advice from the team, even though we were in and out quickly. We'd definitely consider Cecil Court again in the future, especially if dementia becomes an issue. Thanks to everyone there.

My grandma has been a resident for nearly two years. She is 98 years old and has dementia. At home, she had taken to spending her days in bed, but here at the Compton Lodge, she is up every day, dressed and downstairs with other residents. The staff are friendly and caring. The food looks very nice,
especially on Sundays. Some of the rooms are fabulous with direct access to the beautiful gardens. Even the location near Primrose Hill is very nice as we can visit and then go for a walk afterwards. At Compton Lodge, they put on quite a lot of events to keep residents entertained. Dementia isn't easy to cope with, but they do a very good job. The home may not be the most modern, but it has a unique and charming character that makes it feel special.

My mother has been a resident at Compton Lodge since November, having moved from her home of 60 years into care for the first time.
Every effort has been made to welcome and accommodate her and enable her to settle into the new environment and routine. She finds the staff to be kind and caring and
any problems have been sorted promptly. As her nearest relative, I have always been kept informed of what is happening and am consistently reassured that she is in the best possible hands.
