The main aspect of Lezayre is the high standard of care and support from the staff. It's not a new building but the staff are excellent. My sister is 88 and is very frail with dementia so her activities are highly restricted, but the staff and management do their best to improve her quality of life.
They are always available and courteous to me.

I looked after my dad for a long time. But gradually things became more and more difficult until just before christmas we couldn't cope. Its a very painful thing letting a loved one go into care. But the kindness, understanding , compassion and support both dad and me received from all the staff
at Lezayre Nursing Home was second to none.
Sadly dad became ill and had to hospital where he passed away surrounded by love. Even though his stay was short at the home his time there is something I will not forget.
Thank you. Barbara
Reply from Rebecca Crilly, Home Manager at Lezayre Nursing HomeThank you so much for your incredibly kind and heartfelt review, Barb. It truly means a great deal to all of us here at Lezayre Nursing Home.
It was an absolute pleasure to meet both you and your dad. Even though his stay with us was short, we are very grateful to have been able to care for him and to get to know you both during that time. Your warmth and kindness towards our team did not go unnoticed and was very much appreciated.
Please remember that you are always welcome at Lezayre. Our door is always open, and you will remain a valued part of our community.
With our warmest wishes and heartfelt thanks. Nicola & Team

Mum has been in the care home approx 1 year. She came from another care home that did not do nursing care. Mam's health had deteriorated and she went into hospital. She was then told she required nursing care and moved into Derwent Lodge. In this time her health has improved. She is well cared for and
happy, all the staff I have met are lovely, very caring and nothing is a bother to them. Mam tells me how kind they are, the food is good, and she feels well cared for. Thank you to all the lovely staff for their kindness.

My Father is currently a resident at Derwent Lodge. The staff have been incredible. They have treated him with respect and dignity, and are always smiling. The manager, Nichola, has been so attentive and has answered all of the questions I have had since my dad moved in - which has been a lot! She made
a very difficult time a lot easier on both of us. Thank you!

Always a friendly welcome at the door from staff, whatever the day or time we visit.
My Great Aunt is very well taken care of, even at the young age of 100! She seems very relaxed and content in her room and the staff take her downstairs as and when they can and she wants.
Thanks for all you all
do.

I can honestly say my mum was treated with the utmost care and respect here. She was in for respite care for nearly two months and was upset when it was time to leave. There are always staff around to speak to when there are questions to ask. What a lovely group of staff who are always friendly and
caring. I can totally recommend Lezayre Nursing Home, lovely people.

Dad moved to Derwent in December 2024 due to health review , staff at Derwent were welcoming and warm from the beginning not only to dad but us as his family. He was treated with dignity care and compassion, always greeted with a smile and time to not only see to his needs but to generally chat with
him and us . Dad's care was above and beyond what we expected, he was kept warm, clean and plenty of refreshments on hand. Sadly we lost dad on 25th January 2025 and he was continued to be treated with the dignity and respect he deserved. Thank you all at Derwent.

Derwent Lodge Nursing Home

My father came to Derwent Lodge from hospital after being admitted from home (with carers) in Feb 2024. It was such a relief to see he was treated with dignity and respect despite some challenging behaviour at times. At last he was in a safe environment where he was given proper meals, kept clean and
regularly checked.

He stayed there until he passed away at the beginning of September 2024. Throughout this time he needed to be referred to a number of external agencies and various changes in needs and meds were necessary. Most of this went smoothly although there were occasions when I needed to chase for information rather than being contacted with updates by phone.

The carers and nurses were all approachable and friendly - they quickly got to know my dad and his likes and dislikes. This broke down somewhat when agency staff were needed to cover. Entire place was clean throughout.

Overall I would recommend. Bring back the entertainment though - the other residents loved it.

Superb nursing home.
My mum has always received excellent nursing care. She has complex needs and can pose challenges sometimes. The staff at the home are always good with Mum. Nothing is too much trouble. Myself and my family are reassured she is safe and in capable hands. Staff are really friendly,
smiling and approachable.
All staff go out of their way to chat with myself and family. They will update us on anything new with Mum.
We as a family are extremely grateful to all the staff nurses, care, management, chefs, handyman, cleaning. We can't thank them enough

Derwent Lodge Nursing Home

Emergency respite had to be arranged quickly for my husband who has Huntington's. I was struggling to cope and he had never been in a care home, we were both so frightened about this but also knew we couldn't carry on as we were. He stayed in Derwent Lodge for 2 weeks whilst a care package was put in
place.
From the moment we walked through the door we found it to be so welcoming and friendly, from the receptionist to all of the front-line care staff, chef and cleaner. Everyone was so kind and looked after my husband so well. This was such a relief as I was worried about leaving him initially, but felt reassured by how warm and welcoming everyone was. I got to know the manager who is very approachable.
Having worked in the care sector most of my life I could see that the positive culture in the home comes from her, she is very caring and has respect for everyone. Her staff are very happy in their jobs, that speaks volumes I think about how the residents are treated.

My sister has been removed from this home 29/07/2024. She was neglected so badly that I got authorities in. Mental health and adult social care, I would not recommend this home to anyone. The pictures I have of the care she didn't receive and the conditions she was in were disgusting. My sister was
end of life and treated very poorly. It was heartbreaking. I did report to CQC the staff and management are rude and arrogant. My sister is in hospital with very large spleen and chest pains. The home was told she was in pain and did nothing and kept the door shut so no one would see the state of her. No one ever bothered to sit and talk to her, but now she is safe clean and cared for 24 hours. The proof I have of the conditions she was in is disgusting.
Reply from Nicky Dunn, Home Manager at Derwent Lodge Nursing HomeDear Heather, I completely understand that this is a sensitive time for you and your family. However, I do want to clarify that your review appears to have been written before we had the opportunity to meet and present the evidence of the steps taken by our team to support your sister. While the circumstances surrounding this situation are challenging, I respectfully ask for your confirmation that the issues you have referred to are not related to neglect on the part of Derwent Lodge. Throughout your sister's stay, all appropriate referrals were made, and external healthcare professionals were regularly involved in her care. Additionally, no safeguarding concerns were raised regarding Derwent Lodge by any of the involved professionals. Due to the importance of confidentiality and maintaining the dignity of our residents, there are limitations to what we can share publicly. However, I would be more than happy to meet with you again to provide additional clarification where needed.

I have previously submitted a review and this one covers the new management. The new manager has made improvements in the overall care standards. The room is not well organised in terms of layout. The ensuite door does not close for privacy. Activities are currently very poor. They were previously excellent.
There was a "buzz" before now nothing. The quiz continues due to one resident's skills. Liaison with relatives/Next of Kin - is not often followed up. The laundry is outstandingly good. The care staff are kind.

Lezayre Nursing Home

from M B (Partner of Resident) published on 1 July 2024

Exceptional care and management. I was initially anxious for my partner to be placed in a home. She was dying and in need of round-the-clock support which I could not give. I have not had experience with homes and read and seen a lot of negativity about care homes.
I'd just like to say my anxiety
was short-lived when stepping into Lezayre. Management was so accommodating to my and my partner's wishes. Carers and nurses gave my partner outstanding care and respect. All staff were always smiling and friendly. Nothing was ever too much trouble.
I have seen and heard a lot of kind and heartfelt moments in this home between staff and their service users. I would see staff talking to the service users with love and compassion. Many times I would come in and see and hear party preparations. I know my partner would have loved this if she had been well enough. It was obvious all service users mattered and the focus seemed to be about them and making days fun and worthwhile.
Thank you Lezayre!
