Review of Darlington Manor from Martin M (Son of Resident) published on 22 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
The professionalism of the staff was outstanding and was shown in their ability to manage my father's care needs using dignity, true caring empathy and full medical knowledge. This gave me the confidence to know my father was definitely in the right place. He also needed 'end of life' palliative care and the staff were all excellent throughout this very difficult time, ensuring my father received all the medical care he needed, carrying out his wishes throughout and giving our family the confidence to know we were all in very capable hands.

I cannot praise them enough!

The management provide a well organised and efficient environment. Any issues are promptly dealt with. The carers without exception provide good compassionate care for the residents. The activities group provide an exceptional service for the residents, which is much appreciated.

The cleaners do a good job and cleanliness is to a very high standard. The kitchen provide very good meals.

I am so glad my mother was given a place here. The staff are amazing and go above and beyond to do whatever is needed for her. I was so worried about her moving in to a home but now when I take her out she looks forward to going back to her room here. They do interesting and relevant activities that she loves doing and she enjoys her meals immensely. The facilities are lovely with a wonderful ambience and a fantastic entryway with painted ivy leaves on an atrium that really welcomes you. My mam is thriving and I'm delighted to see her so happy and making new friends that she socialises with. I've experienced other care homes and this one rates so much higher in warmth, activities and genuine care. My dad spends a lot of time there too with her and his health is improving from when he was her carer and it took so much out of him. They even let him have meals with her and all the staff do everything they can to make everything better for them both. Highly recommended.

Thank you so much for your extremely kind and thoughtful review. It means a great deal to all the staff to hear how happy both your mam and dad are with their experience here.

We understand how emotional and difficult the transition into care can be for families, so it is wonderful to know that...

My father has been in Acorn Grange for about 6 months, and he is extremely happy. The staff are excellent, they are very caring and hard working. My father is always clean and tidy, and he loves the food. They have helped to sort out his hearing problems and teeth. I honestly believe there is not a better care home in the area. I cannot fault it in any way. Thank you!

Overall Experience
This is the second time, within a three year period, that I have chosen Acorn Grange as the first choice care home for a close relative.
Initially it was chosen because of glowing reports from friends and colleagues who had first hand experience of the home.
Every aspect of this home is first class. From the management and carers to the domestic and catering staff, all are approachable and friendly, they treat residents courteously and with respect; and do their very best to make them feel special and safe.
The building is spotlessly clean, the food is freshly cooked on site each day and the residents are given a choice of menu daily.

The management keep me informed (by telephone or in person) of anything significant concerning my mother's health, wellbeing or general care.

Overall Experience
Both my mam and step father have been residents for over 3yrs...initially together but due to mams dementia a decision to separate for their own wellbeing was decided by all.
Both now on different floors due to different health needs.
Prior this ive never had experience of a care home.
I visit as frequency as possible and have actually become attached to the wonderful atmosphere and care the residents receive. .and have always been made to feel welcome.
This home is that, a home from home for the residents with splendid care and a dedicated entertainment team, which includes many walks and fresh air weather permitting.
For myself a care homes number one success lays with the staff and teamwork inclusive of everyone and I wouldnt hesitate recommending this care home, the staff here are actually the care home.

With such grateful thanks and respect to Samantha .. x

Mother in law (L) was discharged to Darlington Manor in Feb 2021 following # hip. She died there of frailty in Dec 2025.
Throughout her stay, she and our family have seen the compassion, respect and professionalism of all staff.

There is no doubt that the leadership of the manager is key to this. They were endlessly patient with L, treating her warmly and respectfully, maximising her enjoyment and led by her wishes whenever possible. They laughed and danced with her, managed her husband with kindness and cried with us when she died. We are eternally grateful.

As you walk through the doors there is always a friendly face. The staff are amazing, Ellie, Laura, Tracy, Sam, Alicia, Leanne have a special place in my heart and all are brilliant as they always know if Ken or Rita are doing ok. Ken recently had his best friend admitted to the Manor, in the room opposite however Bill has recently passed away. The staff have been in very regular to make sure Ken is managing his emotions. Good great, cleanliness fantastic.

My mum has suffered with dementia since 2020, sadly this year she had a stroke. After she returned home it became obvious dad was not going to manage even with us and carers visiting.
We turned up on the door step of the care home and were welcomed in, all the staff were smiling and said "hello". We were showed around, they asked all about mum and all our questions answered. We left feeling it was a home from home.
Mum moved in and we could not of asked for a better, smoother transition. The staff knew how we were feeling make this large change to all our lives and we where given great support as well as the warm welcome mum received. Since then the staff have got to know us and more importantly they know my mum so well. She will try to avoid doing somethings and when it comes to getting mum to eat !! they have worked with her and have improved her eating better than we could of hoped.

We are really pleased with the care, love and support we see all residents receiving. Well done.

My mother spent the last 10 months of her life in the care of these wonderful people. She was treated with dignity, care and love by all the staff she was involved with. The manager (Donna) and Senior Carer (Kirsty) kept my sister and I up to date regularly during her final days. I can't recommend the staff any higher. Thank you.

My mum has been a resident for two and a half years. The home is superb. The staff are all friendly and caring to all. Any small issues been dealt with quickly. The home make a great effort to stimulate and entertain the residents with innovative ideas. It is immaculately clean at all times. I was impressed with the live streaming of Newcastle Cathedral Christmas Church Service for residents and relatives to enjoy in the Chapel Room. The staff go above and beyond.

Just been to visit my mam again. The staff here are amazing, the way they deal with the residents, the patience they have, the effort they put in to being kind and lovely to the residents is really great to see. The residents had been to the park this morning, and were having a sing a long when I got there. Earlier in the week they were playing bingo when I was there. Darlington Manor is a great place, a big big part of that is the staff. I love my mam being there.
