Care Homes Owned by Seaham Care Ltd in Durham

My father went into this place after leaving hospital, as he has severe dementia, and has become so frail that my mother could not cope with him any longer.
The overall look of the place is quite scruffy, but the staff are brilliant. They contact you as soon as something goes wrong.
The room that my father is in is quite small and has no facilities other than a sink and a commode. The room itself is quite dark although comfortable.
The facilities with regards to watching TV and activities are also rather poor. There are home-cooked meals, which I know my father likes, and the dining room is nice and clean.
There is a 1970s room (as I call it), that has psychedelic wallpaper that is enough to give you a migraine.

Overall the places is quite good, but improvements need to be made, especially ensuite rooms available to everyone

My dad stayed at Stockton Lodge Nursing Home for just over a year from 14th February 2022 till he was admitted to hospital end of March 2023, where he sadly passed away.
My dad had really challenging behaviour due to his dementia and Stockton Lodge was almost his last chance as he hadn’t settled in any other care facilities (think we had tried 4 others).
The staff on the challenging behaviour unit really understood my dads needs and treated him with respect and dignity. My dad was always well fed and well looked after, often enjoying jokes and activities.
All staff and management were happy to discuss any concerns and kept me informed on his care.
Everyone at the home was sociable and happy to chat when we visited, offering cups of tea and food.

All staff and management were very supportive to me and my mam, who was herself poorly too and helped us as a family celebrate, my parents 60th wedding anniversary and my dads 82nd birthday, leaving me with lovely memories.
